Re: ModNation Racers official thread
Anybody have any cool creations yet?
I have one, for fans of the show Chuck I made the Nerd Herder from the show:
http://community.modnation.com/en-us...ated/creations

There's a few versions of the Nerd Herder that other people have made, if you want to download mine, do a search for Chuck's Nerd Herder, and the creator should be Furiated.
Anyone have any recommendations on Mods, Karts, or Tracks to download? The top 3 shown in the ModSpot when you sign in haven't changed since the day I got the game, so it's not very helpful to see good new mods.

Spoiler:
Obviously has nothing to do with the show... I just liked the play on words, and the Western theme. The rifles on the fenders are inlaid chrome; I'm pretty pleased with how they came out. I think that's about as complicated as I'm going to get as far as working with primitives. Some of those people making their own stuff are just crazy.
I'm a little disappointed that it's hard to find cars/mods that aren't just recreations of existing pop culture icons. Some of them are fantastic, but I'd rather see more original work.
If anyone wants to download my car, it's called "Deadwood," and my PSN id is morphemic. I have no idea if there are a ton of other cars called "Deadwood," 'cause I haven't looked. Anyway, someone please download it! It hasn't even gotten a single view since I posted it yesterday.

Nice! That car looks pretty sweet, I'll definitely rate and download it.
I'm in awe of the people that can do great original designs. I am terrible at that, I am much better trying to adapt an existing design into the framework of what the game will allow. I have some ideas on sports team based designs I'd like to do, but apart from recreating the logo in the game, I am lost at being creative with coming up with the rest of the design.

The community site is great for looking up people's creations. I just wish there was a way you could add them to a download queue or something.
The only thing I've created is my Mod who I love playing with. His name is "Coolzard" under PSN ID tlwizard81.

He doesn't talk smack and he's smooth on the track... he's Coolzard. He bakes in the sun and can seduce a nun... he's Coolzard.

There appear to be three Deadwood cars currently.

Just in case you're wondering, she's wearing her headphones on her other ears.
By the way, is anyone else getting their ass handed to them by career mode? I just want to get past Sinkhole, but I can never do better than 6th place.

Thanks for letting me know about the community site. By the way, I think your Coolzard might be related to my girl, Amphoebe:

And I'm sure if Coolzard saw your girl he'd buy her a martini. She'd be impressed that it was chilled by his cool personality.

Got this coming in the mail from Gamefly. Wondering if anyone out there is looking to get together for some online racing?

Shit...I just spent 12 hours in this game!
It's a really really good kart racer, and the community has made just about everything you can think of. The character creation tools are well beyond LBP or Miis, and the karts are just awesome.
This one is definitely a keeper...need to get a little community going.

Are you gonna start designing some stuff? Or are you saving your creative energies for LBP2?

I was really looking forward to this game, but the load times in the demo were enough to keep me from getting it on release day. Are they not as bad in the full game?

Re: ModNation Racers official thread
Yeah, I know. I've had the game since it launched. My son got it for his birthday and is gone for the summer, so it sat in plastic while I played my backlog.
I was initially a little bit put off by the demo, as the drift mechanic and the weapons didn't "feel" right. But once I settled in with the controls, I realized that they are super fun, and that whole boost/shield meter mechanic is brilliant.
I'm mostly just playing the single played and unlocking stuff, but I'm easily distracted by the creation stuff. But I'm easing myself in and have only designed cars so far...made the obligatory batmobile and then a few rogues gallery cars. I'm amused that you can basically turn this into "Batman Kart" or "Marvel Kart" or "South Park Kart" or ........etc.
For character creation, the community has already made everything...and I mean EVERYTHING.
I have ideas for tracks, but I'm feeling like tracks are more limited in what you can do from a gameplay standpoint. I wanted to do something with Dark City, but at the end of the day, my idea was just a "long drift to the beach" and I'm not sure I could get the city to do what I wanted it to. It's just the limit of driving games really. Ultimately, you're going to have the same turns and jumps as everybody else, and you're really just working with the aesthetics. But I'm sure something will hit me.

I'm really looking forward to some of the PS3 community getting in board, as I think a night of playing community tracks would be a blast.

There is an upcoming patch to deal with the loading times, but there's only one loading time per race. So if you finish a race and choose to replay it, no load time whatsoever. Which is great on the single player campaign as you have to rerace a bunch of them to get all the goals.

Some of the later tracks are...just brilliant...better than anything I've seen in Mario Kart in a long time.
3 of the last 4 I finished were real standouts: Sinkhole, Marina, and Launchers Rush

Sent you another PM, but it appears the codes have expired already. That's my bad as I should have asked yesterday, but thought that when it said expire on the 27th they meant end of day 27th.
Flip, did yours work?

Ok, I demo'd this at a Best Buy today and loved, loved LOVED the track creation tools. Just so fantastically easy to use. From someone who spent considerable hours working in UnrealEd (and, ick, .MOD files before it), I can appreciate any editor where you can create a complete track in 10 minutes.
But... I wasn't getting a great response from the controls when racing. It seemed like it was a racing mini-game in a different type of game, or a $5 XBLA/PSN game. Very disappointing.
I'll chalk it up to only having about 5-10 minutes of actual racing time with it. Hell, I couldn't figure out how to drift. Are the controls an issue? Or did I not get a good sense of them?
I'll very gladly pay retail for this.
