Still, both are very solid games, Uncharted 2 is my current favorite PS3 exclusive. I still haven't broken into Dragon Age: Origins, though I would love to. Splosion Man was a blast as well (though repetitive and "rushed" in spots.) Assassin's Creed 2 was a very plesant surprise as well. |

I like CoD:MW2 more than Uncharted 2 as an overall package. Uncharted 2 had a better story, characters, and production values (the whole thing put many movies to shame), CoD:MW2 is more exciting and fun. Uncharted 2's shooting sequences are a bit dull (and sadly that is all there is for the last 15 - 20% of the game)....

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
Uncharted2 hands down. I can't tell you the last game that gave me such a good gamer feeling. I laughed, I cried, I played a shit ton of Co-op Arena mode.

my top three:
borderlands batman: arkham asylum shadow complex when i get time off next week, i will play through assassin's creed 2, MW2 - single player, and hopefully uncharted 2. my list may change, but i have thoroughly enjoyed the top 3 i listed. |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
For me, I'm really torn between Batman AA and Uncharted 2. Since I have to choose I guess I'll go with Batman just b/c I think I had more fun with it, overall, from start to finish.
Having said that, Borderlands (and I'm even shocking myself by writing this) would have been my hands down GOTY vote if only I hadn't run into so many bugs with the game that still haven't been patched for us PS3 users. Even with all the problems I've encountered, I've still logged more hours into this game than any other this year and I continue to play it; flaws and all. Full Disclosure: I haven't played MW2, AC2, or Dragon Age |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
I'll say Uncharted 2 had the best secret achievement of any game this year (the Marco, Polo trophies).

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
Uncharted 2 is the GOTY, great production values, really polished, it's like you were in a movie. Of course it should have ended earlier. Overall it should be GOTY.
Now, the one with the most action and that was like a ride: MW2. The one I enjoyed more and spent more time: AC2. The one I'm going to (still) be playing in December 2010: FIFA 10. etc., etc. |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
My vote goes to Uncharted 2
|
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
Batman: AA or Uncharted 2 (depending on my mood)
...followed by... Borderlands NHL10 ...and I still have to dig into AC2 and FIFA10 before adding them to the list. |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves ... No-brainer here. One of the most awe-inspiring games I've ever played.
2. The Beatles Rock Band ... Activision should take note - this is how you do a single-band game properly. Easily my most-played game this year. 3. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time ... My first R&C game, so it was all new to me. Loved it. 4. Batman: Arkham Asylum ... I'm still shocked by how good this game is. Last 2 boss fights were weak though. 5. inFAMOUS ... A little rough around the edges, but a thorougly fun experience. 6. Flower ... One of the most unique games I've ever played. 7. PixelJunk Shooter ... Another home run for the PixelJunk series, though it's a bit short. 8. Resident Evil 5 ... Nowhere near as fresh as RE4 was, but still a great game (potentially racist material aside). 9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine ... A decent game based on a mediocre comic book movie? Awesome, but a bit on the repetitive side by the end. 10. Prototype ... Would probably have placed higher if it hadn't come out at the same time as inFAMOUS, which is clearly the better game IMO. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I ever finished this one. I'll probably get either Borderlands or AC2 for Christmas, and based on the feedback I've seen on both, either one will probably push Prototype off the list (and the one that I don't get will probably push Wolverine off the list when I pick it up later). I've never really been into the COD games, but I might pick up MW2 at some point. |

Left 4 Dead 2

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
My Top are
1. Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 ( Love the single player, intense and fun, great surround sound. ) 2. Uncharted 2 ( Great characters, Dialouge, and Visuals, Gameplay is fun but not perfect 3. Ghostbusters ( Gameplay wasnt perfect, but they got everything else right, Great writing, and really felt like the 3rd movie) 4. Halo ODST ( I felt this was the best Halo game, and had a fantastic atmosphere and musically score) 5.Borderlands 6.Batman Arkham Asylum 7. Battlefield 1943 |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
For me it's Flower.

Forza Motorsport 3 gets my vote.

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
After Batman came out, I knew we'd forget about all the good games released in the first half of the year. Sure enough, I forgot them myself.
Honorable Mention : Red Faction Guerrilla. Just a great, insanely fun game with a rollicking multiplayer portion as well. It's too easy to forget under the pile of AA titles at year's end, but this one was a total blast to play. |

But my favorite Nintendo game this year was the Metroid Prime trilogy, which was new to me, but old to most people. |

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
NCAA Football 10. It's the game I played most this year (well, outside of WoW, which doesn't count), and the game I've had the most fun with. I played a Road to Glory mode to completion (over 60 games), and have played several years in 4 or 5 different dynasties. I'd say I've played over 200 games of it, easily, maybe more. FWIW, I've been poor this year and haven't gotten to play Borderlands, Uncharted 2, Batman AA, etc. And I've barely scratched the surface of Dragon Age: Origins after a fast start.

Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
I've finally decided between Batman and Uncharted 2, and I'm going with Uncharted 2. I found the gameplay in Batman slightly (just slightly) more satisfying, but I did have some complaints (mostly the bosses).
Uncharted was positively epic and had no real flaws IMO. The train, truck and helicopter sequences were easily the most jawdropping thing I've seen in a game, the story and acting were both top notch, and it may seem like a small thing, but the polish and lack of load times made it very immersive. I also give the multiplayer the nod over Batman's challenge modes. So there it is...Uncharted 2 |
Re: 2009 Game of the Year (GOTY) thread
I totally agree with you. chess. I thought Batman was outstanding and really pretty much flawless, but it didn't give me the breathless thrills and the LOL moments that Uncharted did. There are some years where you have to decide between The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind or Godfather Part II and Chinatown. This felt like the video game equivalent.

^^ I have an easy way to solve that problem: Replace Drake with Batman (including his "wonderful toys") in Uncharted 2.
Game of the Decade ;) |

Uncharted 2 earns most of its praise, though far from perfect, it was about as well made an interactive movie as I've ever played. Hopefully they can iron out some of the gameplay kinks for #3 -- less repetitive level structure (climb, jump, clear out the room of enemies. Repeat.), better gunplay, a little more exploration, less rigid controls (everything is beautifully animated, but i never felt entirely in control of it), and know when to say enough is enough. Near-perfect production values deserve near-perfect gameplay. I need to pick up that Metroid Trilogy, never did play through Corruption and would love to play #1 again with the Wii controls. I also need to play through ODST. |

I don't own the system and can't comment directly, but as an outsider, it looked to be a pretty underwhelming year for the Wii. There wasn't a single game that I thought "Damn, I wish I had a Wii so I can play THAT". I assume that Epic Mickey will be that game in 2010, but we'll see, I guess.
They just keep on releasing fun games that people like to get together and keep playing (Rock Band/Wii Kart/Super Mario Wii Bros). Nintendo knows they can't compete with the hardware of 360/PS3, so why try? |
