It's probably the spot where you have to throw the batarang down the corridor to the arcing electricity and then bring it back to hit the fuse box.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

I just started playing this game about a week ago after my brother borrowed City and Asylum from his friend. For whatever reason, I started with City first and I absolutely love it! I just finished the campaign and am now in the process of seeing how many of the Riddler trophies and "breakable objects" I can find. I've definitely improved in my combat skills, but I still can't seem to get the crazy combos that must be necessary to earn 3 medals on the challenge levels. A lot of my friends have scores 3-5x higher than mine! Is it just a case of getting all the multipliers and not getting hit? I'm guessing so.

Anyway, what's up with the riddles in the campaign mode? The ones that look like this - [] ? I've recognized them, but what do I have to do to them? I'm starting to think there are a few things about this game that I haven't figured out yet. I've been collecting Riddler trophies like crazy it seems, but I still have a bit over 200 more to collect. I can't wait to start Asylum and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they will do to top this. The Turtles game I read about in the other thread sounds awesome.

^Dr. Dvd, I believe The Dude is right. You have to electrify your batarang.

The brackets [] are where riddle answers are located; these are the ones you have to take a picture of in order to get credit for.

Yep. Just did this today after 20 tries of being an idiot and not figuring out the electricity part.

It feels like the electrifying batarang puzzles are the ones that have confused just about everyone (myself included)

Yeah, it took me a lot of time too.

If only I was paying attention to what Batman was saying...

Man. I thought the electrifying the batarang was annoying... but only because I was being dumb. This sniper section is a PITA. There seems to be no rhyme or reason why some silent takedowns work and some don't. almost reaching controller chucking levels of frustration.

Thanks! I couldn't figure out what Batman meant by "charged batarang."

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

A bizarre glitch just erased my gamesave on the PC version. And all I had left was to find some missing Mr. Freeze tech and rescue the remaining Riddler hostages.

Oh, well. I felt like playing the game from the star again anyway.

Were you using Steam?
I think Steam has online backups.

Also some versions of Windows, Windows 7 Ultimate for example, have the option to restore old files.

I use Steam. Had no idea of backups. Is there an FAQ about how to access them?

I just finished the game myself, and I think I liked Asylum more. I especially hate the trophy system in this version of the game. The roving bands of prisoners are a bit button mashing repetitive too.

Still really enjoyed the game, it just wasn't that hard or involved as Asylum.

If you are button mashing, you are doing it wrong. Getting good combos requires precise timing.

....but you don't need good combos to defeat any of the roving masses. If you care, sure... combo away.

Final thoughts: I find the number of Riddler trophies to be oppressive. 400? Is that really necessary?

I enjoyed this much less than Asylum because the main quest was much shorter and the rest of the game was unnecessarily padded with irrelevant side quests and that ungodly number of Riddler trophies. I enjoy my time in Arkham so I'll continue to collect those damn trophies... but I won't be happy about it. I'm somewhere near 200 now after spending two hours yesterday getting five. FIVE. The one in that cage on the water I'd punch in the face twice.

You have obviously never played it on Hard mode. There is no way you can button mash then.

Combos aren't essential in the main game, but if you care about the challenge maps combos are essential for getting the high scores.

I agree 400 Riddler trophies is way too much. The first game only had 100 and had only a slightly smaller total area to explore. The first game I enjoyed collecting them all, but this game is just a chore. I have played through the first game 100% at least a dozen times, but I never see myself getting 100% on this game ever again.

I didnt play on hard, but I didn't say I didn't combo. I just said it was unnecessary on normal. Challenge maps are another story. And unlike Asylum I feel no need to revisit this story to experience it on hard.

Asylum you didn't need to beat Hard mode to get 100%, however you do need to do so with City. So if you like to 100% your games, you will have to replay it on hard.

Your two sentences contradict each other. I played through AA on hard and had no problems "button mashing." I will give you challenges. I couldn't get anywhere with those.

I didn't contradict myself. In the normal mode "main campaign" you can get by without bothering to learn how to play. You won't get very far in hard mode or in the challenges though. Have you played AC on hard? Its quite a bit more challenging than AA was on hard.

Why wouldn't you want to bother learning so you could do the challenges? They are incredibly fun. I can spend hours just replaying them over and over trying to better my score.

Sure you can, but why would you want to do so? Its like playing a Street Fighter game where you don't bother doing combos but just keep punching over and over. That's no fun.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

A lot of people play Street Fighter and just button mash and have fun I get the feeling a lot of people had trouble getting the timing right and didn't bother getting good at it, just enough to get by. I recall in the thread for the first game a lot of people having trouble with getting the hang of it. I'm ok at chaining stuff together, but I didn't care about the challenges and only bothered to do a few of them.
