Do you own AA yet? if not Walmart is selling a pack where if you buy AC AA comes with it for free.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

So from everything I'm reading, it almost sounds like it's better to leave the Catwoman stuff undownloaded and play the game as it is on the disc?

FWIW, some of Batman's upgrades mention that they apply to all playable characters, so Catwoman and Robin should benefit.

Sure you can. You just don't play as Catwoman. No huge loss there.

This is where I bought it for that very reason! Although I already have AA, I can now give it to my little brother in law for Christmas! Score!

but aren't there some areas that only Catwoman can get to, specifically some Riddler trophies that only she can penetrate and get? do you just play the campaign areas with Batman still or does it just skip it or something?

AA for free with AC? Walmart I think this is the beginning of a beautiful one time business transaction.

I only use it occasionally at short times a piece, similar to eagle vision in the Assassin's Creed games...

Yeah I've used detective mode way less in this game too. The main times I use it are just to check how many enemies are in an area or if a section requires it. Big improvement in that aspect of the game if you ask me.

Detective Mode is essential to getting high scores on the most extreme combat challenges. The easy distinction between unarmed foes, foes with armor, foes with guns, and other special characters removes a lot of frustration when you no longer break a combo by accidentally punching an armored guy.

It's not essential, I've bolded the word easy because DM is a crutch for players who want a shortcut.

Catwoman DLC is pretty pointless.

You play as her 20 mins tops in story mode.

It is a crutch, I agree. Also I think anyone who plays this game instead of becoming a vigilante who stalks the night is getting off easy.

Now gentlemen, if you'll excuse me, I have some criminals to apprehend.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

ok...the challenge maps are really fun...especially the predator ones...

My biggest problem with this game though is the 440 joker riddles...I don't have a problem with them alone..my problem is they are tied into the fun riddle hostage missions. I really want to play all of them, but fuck if I don't want to find 440 riddles....overkill by a LOT...there is only so many things I can scan, buttons I can push, or switches I can land on before I want to pull what little hair I have left out...

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

Finished it yesterday. Really didn't have much time to play until Saturday.

A lot of thoughts on game, ending, hidden stuff, and then inevitable third game:

Spoiler:

1.) I loved the game, and unlike most here I felt the beginning as Bruce was a great surprise. I expected to begin as Batman but entering 'hell' with Bruce was a pretty smart move.

2.) I understand why people feel the way they do about this game at first. I was VERY overwhelmed with the size and scope of Arkham City. If I played it over now though I'm sure that feeling would be gone. I think this is one of those games that are better played numerous times to take everything in.

3.) I don't like how MANY of the battles pretty much forced us to eliminate stealth completely and fist fight a dozen or so guys. Specifically, when fighting numerous thugs with weapons.

4.) TONS of clues about the next game.

A. Killer Croc is still hunting Batman
B. Bane was left locked up by Batman. If you go back as Catwoman he'll try and convince her to let him out.
C. Scarecrow was conducting a fear experiment in the boat at the dock, which a letter in the boat proves was funded by C. Falcone.
D. Return to Joker's office and Harley's costume from the first game is hanging up, with a 'positive' pregnancy test laying beside it.
E. Alfred refused to help Bruce find Talia.
F. Azrael told Batman that Gotham is next, but Gotham and Batman would burn in the fire.

5.) Now, I hated the ending, probably because I called it on another forum last year in a thread about Ras being at the morgue in the first game. Hugo Strange was a puppet, which I don't like, and bringing him back and killing him off is highly questionable. Ra's and Talia die, but could easily return via the L. pits. Joker is the big question mark, with Hamill wanting to retire from the roll numerous times.

5.) Some of my favorite qoutes!

"and did it really end in a church!" - Joker
"Wait, did they ever explain what the island really was?" - random thug
"What will they think of calling it next? Big Ass Arkham World?" - thug at museum.
There was another one I can't fully remember from the two guys standing in front of the elevator at Joker's hideout, talking about sticking cake down his mom's throat.

6.) WTF was that with Robin? He shows up to help Batman against Talia's thugs and then gets ordered off. Batman told him "I know where to find you". Robin just kind of vanishes after this? And having no satellite batcave in the game doesn't seem like something Bruce would overlook!

You can lure him near those electrical things you can shoot with your pulse riffle thing, and those will hurt him. You can lure him near the exposed wires on the floor (you can see them in DM) and shock him there. And then after that, it's all about ninja moves. Get under the grates, and do a predator attack on him, or get to a high point and do a glide kick. Those are the type of moves that hurt him.

The gliding with Ra's gave me some issues too, but now that I'm used to it I'm a motherfucking gliding machine! I really liked that boss battle too. It was like I was fighting Freddy Krueger.
Ahhh yes....

Spoiler:
I finally had some patience and plotted things out accordingly for Freeze and took him out. Having to be so stealthy with him took me back to games like Metal Gear Solid. I had to dig deep for that fight and keep playing it out.

The Ra's fight was fun and reminded me of The Scarecrow stuff in AA. Learning how to glide right was a nice skill to learn on the fly. That fight was a mind-bender. I think I've hit the Y button for more of my fights than the X button. ha!

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread

285 riddles down....I just noticed though that you only need 400 of the 440 to finish the hostage missions. Catwoman's riddles count toward your 400...so you only need to grab (I can't believe I am saying ONLY here) 90% of the riddles....

At least you don't need a guide for these...

I thought only AA uses Trioviz whereas AC uses FHD3D.

AC offers both 3D choices. I played some in stereoscopic 3D last night. Don't think it made much difference to most of the game, but gliding around the city in 3D was very cool.
