Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

Well, I just bought Pack 4 for Pinball Arcade. Creature is a cool looking table that surprisingly is more a tribute to the Drive In than to the movie. It's off the charts for nostalgia-cool and bleeds points like no table since Theater of Magic, but unfortunately its play-appeal is severely diminished by what has to be the biggest "dead space" between the flippers of any table I've ever seen. This table was designed to eat quarters and eat them quickly.
I'll agree that Black Knight was the inspiration for Xtreme and that it's better than Xtreme. But not by a lot. I guess I need to play it some more to figure how you keep the ball on the top shelf for more than 5 seconds. Anyway, I get that it's an old table and doesn't have a ton of features. I just wish I liked it more. I never begrudge picking up a couple of tables for $5, but this was certainly my least-favorite table pack so far. Hope the next one (Harley-Davidson & Taxi) is more fun.

Lighting demo for the upcoming Pro Pinball (Remastered) on iPad:

Really, really impressive.

Kickstarter for it:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...and-remastered

Should be out on just about every platform conceivable. Pat Lawlor is working on a brand new table for it as well.

You can download the lighting demo here:

As opposed to, say, Plants vs Zombies?

I wonder if they've given up on making original tables that are "heavily inspired" by real life tables now that Pinball Arcade is chugging out real tables at a decent clip. I hope they haven't stopped with non-licensed table because the last one (Epic Quest) was maybe their best ever.

Sure, Plants Vs Zombies sucks, but that isn't the fault of the license. It's just a shitty table.

Actually I'm a bit tired of Zen tables in general, they are just getting more and more ridiculous.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

Went ahead and did pretty much a full teardown on SST and installed LED's for all the GI lights. Turned out pretty good. Also cleaned and waxed the playfield.

Couple more photos. First is everything I had to remove from the playfield in order to install all the GI lights. Second is after I waxed it.
Spoiler:

I'm getting GORGAR tonight. Woot.

GORGAR LIVES!

For whatever reason in the picture, the backglass looks weird where the bulbs are. It's basically in perfect shape except for a few marks on it. Overall its in great shape, just some wear on the playfield and cab, basically what you would expect for a 30+ year old game.

The two year run on PFx2 has been pretty fucking awesome, I've never - ever had a game that I've played so frequently. So sure, the tables are getting a little stale - but shit. I'm looking at milli-cents per hour of play now if I average it out

I agree with both of you. I'll play the shit out of a table typically for several days or weeks, but I rarely go back. Hell, I only played PvZ once or twice and that was after literally 5 months of anticipation. I didn't even play it enough to know it sucked!

I loved Epic Quest, though, and I want more of that.

Yeah, I played PvZ exactly one time, it lasted something stupid like 45 minutes, got some crazy high score, and never touched it again.

PvZ isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Sure, it isn't Epic Quest (then again very few tables are), but I've played it quite a few times now and it grows on you. Yes, it is easy but it's not awful. Then again, I think Sorcerer's Lair is one of the best Pinball FX2 tables and nobody else really seems to like it. So just different strokes I guess. Another table that grows on you from the Marvel family, Infinity Gauntlet, completely freaking nuts (and if you have read the graphic novel, really neat.)

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

It's really easy, the games last forever, and it has no depth. All three of those make it terrible. If it was 2 out of 3 then it wouldn't be so bad.

New Zen Pinball 2 DLC coming next Tuesday according to the PS Blogcast. Whatever they announce Saturday should be coming just a couple of days later. They said something about a "monsters bundle" apparently.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

So is that the one that was supposed to come out Tuesday, or is there another that hasn't been announced yet?

I suppose it's possible that it's just the Fantastic Four table that didn't come out with all the other tables last month.

BTW: Here's the new table trailer:

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

I'm starting to wonder if the monster bundle on Tuesday, is just a bundle of previously released tables that's going to be on sale, since psn allows bundling of items.

You're exactly right. It's a bundle of Sorcerer's Lair, Paranormal and PvZ for $5.99 (or $4.19 for PS Plus members). Nothing to see here, unless you don't own any of these games on the PS3.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

My parents have that table and I play it a lot whenever I go to their place. I hatehatehate the Legolas ramp, though. I think I've only destroyed the ring twice in my career, and have never displaced my father's top score or 45-second ring destruction time.

The outlanes on that one are a bitch.

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

Why do you hate the Legolas ramp? It's mega safe when you don't make it up, not like other games where it's a surefire way to drain down the middle. I love how fast the ball will go on the ramp, so awesome. As far as the outlanes go, yeah, they are a bitch, but you just need to do some preemptive nudging to stop it. Or be more careful with your shots (easier said than done, at least for me).

Re: The Ultimate Battle Free Pinball Thread

Maybe there's something wrong with their's, but it's already a tight shot for me and the ball only makes it up halfway 95% of the time the falls back out (I get to hear the arrow whiff past me twice). I can't get enough power from the left flipper to get it up there unlike the right flipper up onto the sword ramp.

Anyway, it's always the Legolas ramp that I seem to need to hit for whatever mode I'm in and am really bad at it.

It's really tough with the left flipper, actually it might be impossible without some momentum, just because of the angle.

One thing you might want to check is to see if theirs has the upgraded flipper coils. Without them, the flippers will get weaker as they get hotter. If it was made in 2004, then it will already have the upgraded coils.
