Are you playing solo?

I never played the first game, but this one is really fun. Especially when you get a group of folks playing with you that are cooperating.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th

I am a huge fan of L4D1. However, this demo was very underwhelming. I hate playing this game in a daytime setting -- hopefully the other campaigns are at night. This campaign "Parish" sucks. It doesn't have the charm that the levels had on the first L4D. The only character I liked was "Coach". The others were pretty lame. The melee weapons weren't very exciting to play with. I was very disappointed with this demo -- all of this could have been DLC for L4D1. I will get the game eventually, but not for a while.

Hopefully the rest of the game is good, maybe they just put the crappiest part in the demo.

Playing during the day sucks. I too found the levels boring and plain.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th

I played it and enjoyed it. It's different from the first games...which I'm guessing was the point...so it'll take some getting used too. I liked the different settings and who cares if some of it is during the daylight? I would guess in that situation getting to safety has no "prime time".

I didn't like that they switched the "Comment" and "Crouch" buttons. That was annoying while trying to defend while a horde was running at me.

The Melee weapons, the machete in particular, were VERY satisfying...

Daytime + Melee weapons just makes the game easier for the survivors. I fear playing Vs. now.

Is there still a community playing L4D1 on 360? If that seems to be the better game, I wouldn't mind checking that out, even if I get kicked for sucking so bad.

Yes.

I'd say give the FULL L4D2 game a chance before blowing it off.

I'm not blowing it off at all. I just imagine if the demo for 2 is this fun, the full game for part 1 will be a blast...and cheap!

I gave it a quick try playing solo (360) and the zombies were very choppy at times in their animation, especially their initial movements. They would kind of slide forward before actually animating. Strange.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th

I played the DEMO with some folks online and even though we didn't speak we still sort of worked together and it was an enjoyable experience.

I HATE those little Back Rider fuckers and the spitting Infected chick just seems like an extension of the Boomer. Of course the bile she spits is deadly. And for some reason I really like that the Witch roams around crying.

I'm sure it will be balanced. If not when it comes out then when an update is released due to all the complaints about said advantage the Survivors have.

I just played it solo last night and I enjoyed it. I still got the "Whoah, I'm surrounded and not gonna make it" vibe so, I'm happy in all!

The environment didn't seem as polished as in the first game. It felt like a video game level instead of a real place. I'm guessing they pulled back on the textures and polygon count in order to bring in more zombies.

My thoughts exactly. My buddy DL'd it a couple days before I did and he praised it, but I was disappointed when I played it...it seems generic. I only played a couple levels, but I got through an entire level with (almost) just using a melee attack, which seemed weak to me.

Be sure to modify the difficulty. Some friends and I burned through it really easily the first few times, then we tried Expert. It's much harder than it was in L4D. We didn't even make it accross the street from the dock where you begin. Your health drops 10-15% each time a zombie hits you. Advanced is also challenging.

Visually I think it's about the same, but the 'daylight setting' highlights some of the dated aspects of Source. Keep in mind this engine is nearing six years of age. If the textures look better in the original, I think it's only because they're covered in darkness and shadows. The visuals are on par with what you might see in HL2 or one of the sequels. I think it still looks great, but I do hope most of the levels are at night. Fits the game better.

Overall I found the demo amazing, and I'm taking off work on the 17th to play that shit from 12:01am to 11.59pm without pause.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th

First time I played it. I thought it was good enough to go out and buy the first one soon when I find it cheap. I do not think it will be a $60 purchase.

Re: Left 4 dead 2 - Demo Oct 27th

What would you guys say are the chances of this title going cheap before Xmas? Say, around $39.99? I'm debating whether to go for the $54.99 (+$10 future purchase credit) on Amazon or wait for a killer deal in a month.
