Re: Borderlands

Ok, just grabbed the game at work. Here are my 15min impressions.

-One of the best intros I have seen yet....great style and directing.
-Fantastic graphics, amazing detail on people and faces.
-Good story setup so far, as well as good voice acting and some humor.

As long as the gameplay is not broken garbage, this could be a HUGE sleeper hit of the year, similar to Bioshock greatness. Frankly, at this point, as long as the game works and I can shoot stuff, it's already better than 90% of the stuff I play

I'll report back in a few hours when I start the killing!

Yes, please let us know how it is. I'm intrigued by this game (and the cover ), but not enough to buy it yet.

Awesome! Thanks! Grab one for me too.

Glad to hear that about the opening. The promo vids and trailers tell me the team involved definitely knows what they're doing on the art direction front. Glad to hear it holds up in game thus far.

Re: Borderlands

I've got one question and only one for you, discostu : After you play these games early and beat them, do you then sell them at Game Stop as "new" merchandise? I've wondered that for ages and I always forget to ask.

Re: Borderlands

Is this mostly a multiplayer game, or is there a solid single player experience as well?

I pretty much only take the games early if I'm buying it, so no

Re: Borderlands

Ok, I played a little over an hour, including some co-op and beat the first boss (funny shit). The gameplay is fantastic, and the online co-op was super smooth. You even share all XP and money! There seems to be a great deal of customization and upgrading to weapons and yourself. I would put this ahead of Fallout 3 in terms of quality, since it's not as dark, slow, or repetative . Buy it!

Honestly, I didn't even know this game existed until I saw a commercial a few days ago. I really don't follow video games much anymore unless its for a title I really want to play (L4D4, Bioshock, Dead Rising 2). I've pretty much only played L4D on my 360 this year even though I've tried to play 10-15 other games. I just always go back to that damn game...

Wait, you share? I read you don't share and it was a 'free for all'. That's a relief. Can you boot online players if they suck? What character did you pick?

I just want to know if you can find party members online, or if you are restricted to your friends list like Firefight in ODST.

Re: Borderlands

There's an xbox live option from the menu to host rooms, so I assume u can play with randoms (dunno why you would ever want to play with random people though)

my friend just invited me from his start menu by hitting "invite party"

there is also some sort of dueling mode

true enough. I guess it depends how the co-op feature works. Like, if it's beneficial to have more people or not. If it doesn't really matter then buddy list it is! If life will be easier on a mission then being able to fill an open slot with a random person might not be such a bad thing.

Re: Borderlands

the enemies become much tougher the more people you have playing...we just had 3 of us for the last 2 hours and it took us that long to do one mission! this game is very long and requires some planning, not just a shooter.

Re: Borderlands

That trailer actually lowered my interest in this game. Given that I still have to play Demon's Souls and will be getting Dragon Age, I will hold off on this one.

Re: Borderlands

It looks a little generic, despite the cel-shading. I might still get it eventually -- I'm always up for a fun co-op game, but I think I'll be waiting for a price drop or sale.

Re: Borderlands

Well I found a few cons.
-vehicle controls like crap, and is basically useless.
-no weapon customization (so far 6 hours in) so you are stuck with what you pick up
-very small amount of enemies... Humans, dog things, and bat things so far.
-lifeless world like someone mentioned
-no story? No main quest so far, just side quests everywhere it seems

still a great game and the Diablo questing/leveling up is still fun with a FPS!

So what's the value of the game if you never plan on taking it online?

Re: Borderlands

I hadn't planned on picking this up but I'm intrigued by the previews and the things I've read. May have to give it a shot Tuesday.
