Uncharted 2 would be fully playable, and excellent, in SD. It just wouldn't look as pretty.

This thread has already gone so far off course. Can we get back to being excited about the game?

There should be some preliminary information released in about eighty minutes.

But the general consensus is that Warren Spector knows what he's doing with this project.

I'll definitely buy this once it's on the 360 and/or the Wii implements an achievements/trophy system.

Okay. I can count on one hand how many games could only be done with HD graphics.

Zero.
Sigh. Gameplay and graphics aren't mutually exclusive.

So how did that Dead Rising port turn out? Sure it can be done on a last gen console but only at the cost of removing everything that makes the game fun.

And sorry, Bioshock would not have been the same experience on the original Xbox/PS2/Wii. May be the same gameplay wise but the experience would be totally different. Larger more realistic immersive worlds coupled with surround sound enhance gameplay. What about all these current gen ports that end up being rail shooters?

Also you aren't you jumping the gun on "great looking?" I may be jumping the gun myself but in three years the Wii has yet to deliver a game that looks as good as the concept art posted above. I guess we might find out soon if we get some screenshots though.

As for Wiimote functionality you can probably count on one hand how many games(non mini-game collections) could only be done with the Wii controller.

I don't have my hopes up, given that I found the best reviewed platformer, Mario Galaxy, didn't do much with the Wiimote that couldn't have been done with a regular controller. And with the 360 being my platform of choice, it would have been nice to see this game be multi-platform instead of solely on the Wii. Although given the Wii demographic, I imagine a Mickey game would certainly sell the best on there anyway.

Pixy reminds me of the indie music fan for games.

Re: Epic Mickey Wii / Fall 2010

I don't think it's fair use SMG as an example because it stuck pretty close to the Mario 3D platformer formula.

This is a new IP and idea and it has the ability to really embrace the Wii's uniqueness.

I don't think there's a target demo for this yet. Yes, it's Mickey, but it looks dark (so far). Even scary. I'm not sure if that'll actually translate to the actual game. I'm not saying "mature", but it doesn't look like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I doubt TMBG will do the songs.

Eh, it's not much.

They'll be spilling more information over the course of October though.

I suppose; I hope they do something cool and Warren Spector is a video game design GOD, but I just struggle to see the Wii's motion control as adding anything significant to a platformer. We'll see, the concept art alone is bad ass but given that it's a Disney property I have a hard time believing it won't be something a 12 year old can still pick up and play.

Sorry, not necessarily a bad thing. You introduce a ton of cool new games but seem to scoff at a lot of mainstream stuff

Re: Epic Mickey Wii / Fall 2010

Here are some tidbits from the Eurogamer.

Epic Mickey is a tale about the 'forgotten' Disney stars: the rides, the characters, the lesser-known cartoons. When nobody any longer cares, they are cast into a dark void; a forgotten world of broken machines and bitter personalities - a bit like Sid's bedroom in Toy Story, but without the friendly furnishings.

This forgotten world is run by Oswald the Rabbit. He was Disney's first creation, made long before Mickey Mouse, and his jealousy of the newcomer has fermented for years. Now, finally, Oswald is ready for revenge.

He unleashes The Phantom Blot to wipe out Mickey and his cartoon world. The Blot pollutes the Disney universe with sticky black ink that makes colours run and fade (as seen on the Game Informer cover), so it's up to Mickey to restore peace and order. And this is where his tools come in.

Mickey has to draw and scribble his way through levels, mending broken bridges by applying the right colour paint or peering through walls after applying thinner. He can even clear rubble from his path by erasing parts of the world.

Our source told us Epic Mickey is a game about thinking and artwork - laterally considering your environment in order to overcome puzzles.

On top of that is a healthy dose of exploration, plus Mickey will be getting "his first makeover in years". "That's why no one's seen his face yet," our source explained, "But he's far more retro than you've seen him for years."

That sounds pretty cool, and smart use of the Wii remote as a paint brush. Hopefully the execution is as good as the premise. Sweet plot too

That sounds really awesome. Should be a lot of great stuff there for the Disney nerds.

This sounds similar to Super Mario Sunshine, but the overall concept is cool.

This game is making the Al Michaels trade even better. I never thought that Disney would use Oswald as a villain.

I like the idea of the story but I'm wary about the gameplay. A sequel could definitely run on the DS, at least.

Great premise. I hated Mario Sunshine which this sounds eerily familar, but on the flipside LOVED Okami.

I'm looking forward to Mickey's redesign. He's been pretty stagnant but that hasn't been a bad thing. I just hope they don't go with the 50's era where you could see in his ears.

Re: Epic Mickey Wii / Fall 2010

Sunshine had physical paint everywhere you had to clean up. This sounds more like you're in a world defined by paint and artwork and you'll be physically changing the world through your actions.

I do like the idea of forgotten characters and properties. Like being inside The Nothing from They Neverending Story.

I, for one, look forward to the "People Mover" level.
