Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

If anyone is getting it on Steam, it's up for pre-loading. I did that last night. Can't wait to start playing tomorrow, when I get home from work.

The visuals are supposed to be one of the main weak points of this game. I think what you saw is what you'll get. It's been in development for five or more years, so the engine is probably a bit dated.

Yep, the game has been in development since 2004 so don't expect too much from the graphics. As long as the game's story and gameplay are top notch, I'll be happy.

Wow, I didn't expect it to be addicting. Once I started playing I couldn't stop until I unlocked all 3 items.

I remember reading about Dragon Age way back when Jade Empire was still being developed. No joke. For a long period of time, several years in fact, with no news or anything at all and many people were thinking Dragon Age was becoming vaporware.

I am excited to play any new Bioware products. I hope EA hasn't ruined it too much.

My copy arrives tomorrow. Should be here right about the time I get off work around 3:30pm.

So should I look into this one? It looks cool but my patience for RPGs gets kind of grating.

TOMORROW IS ALMOST HERE!

Reviews seem to be from 8.5-9.5 on this one..though Gamepro gave it a 5/5....almost all reviews scores were hit by the graphics, but gameplay seems to be high on all reviews...CAN'T WAIT!

GameSpot gave it a 9.5/10 for the PC version, 8.5/10 for the 360, and 9/10 for PS3. Here's a link to the video review.

LINK

The reviewer explains why the PC version is preferred over the console versions and why it scored higher.

Great review, I have to pick this up now. Only problem is MW2 is next week.

If only I had the free time required to tackle a game like this. Maybe I'll pick it up cheaper during a game drought next summer...

I was going to use my $40 Amazon Credit from last weeks sale on this, but I don't have it yet. And since I don't really have the time to dedicate to it right now, and I'm not going to get the $10 Amazon pre-order credit for this anymore, I think I'll wait for a while, and use my credit on something else (maybe Lego Indy 2)

still can't decide between the pc and xbox360 version.
I prefer to sit on my couch with the xbox ver but this review says the PC is much better.

Wow, a PS3 port that's noticeably graphically better than the 360 port? Is this a first? Wish I knew that before I preordered.

I was surprised, too. PS3 is usually rated the same or lower.

GOTY edition with a DLC pack or two included for me. Just like Mass Effect and Fallout 3

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I checked UPS today after my copy didn't arrive, and it showed it was delivered and signed by Maya, and left on the dock. Well the only problem is I don't know a Maya and there's no dock here.

They told me it was delivered at 9am to a different address, despite my address showing up as correct in the system.

I look up the address they gave me, and it was a fucking Target. The idiot delivered my package to a damn Target. What the fuck? How stupid can you be? The address wasn't even the same. It was 43525 and mine is 43367. The street names are spelled very differently. The Target in question is a half mile away.

Now I am waiting for them to call back and see if the driver can re-deliver it tonight. It's probably too late for me to deal with Target since receiving hours are typically early morning. I get UPS packages all the time, and I have never seen an error like this. It was the collectors edition, too, so how they could have confused that is beyond me. Does Target even get the collectors edition?

Damn I am pissed.

We used to see this all the time at my store. Usually what happens is the driver tries to presort their truck before delivering and occasionally packages shift in transport and when they are delivering 50+ boxes to one destination they don't always check each individual box. They end up just scanning them all and have a person sign.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I called Target and the guy is like "There's no Maya here."

He says to call him back tomorrow at 8 because he doesn't have the key (he's the store manager, mind you) and I told him I would be working all week, he says "You can call me on your break."

What bullshit.

I complain that I shouldn't have to use my break time for that, he again says there is no Maya here, and says I have the wrong address. He then says call back in 30 minutes and he will have an answer for me. I asked why I have to call back in 30 minutes, and he says because he has to look for it. I said "It takes you 30 minutes?" He says "Just call back in 30 minutes."

Ugh.

Meanwhile, UPS hasn't called me back.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

No spoilers here, but I felt the origin story for the Mage was weak. Slow and not very interesting. Once the origin story was done though it really started to pick up. About 5 hours in, and I am having flashbacks to the late 90's. This game has potential, if not a little slow out of the gate.

Has the other origins also been a little underwhelming to you?

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I'm very pleased so far.

I finished the city-elf origin story tonight and it was very well done. Got me emotionally into the story fairly quickly. My rogue elf, which I intended to be rather shifty in his character, turned out to be very noble in his actions because I couldn't help role playing him that way in this particular situation. Although, I now feel fully justified being just as shifty as I want to any human NPCs I encounter throughout the rest of the game...

There's been a few points already that I'm wondering about the effects of my actions and how they may change things down the road. So far this is looking great.

Did you guys pick up the collector's or the normal? I picked up the collector's and part of the cover is cracked. I want to exchange it before I open it, but I'm worried that no more are available for me to do so.

I gave this a rental tonight to see if I would get sucked into it - I will be there at Sears come black Friday!

Quickstarted the girl city elf storyline and am having fun with it.

I got the Steam digital download Deluxe Edition on PC. So no packaging here. It came with both the DLC included and several bonus items.
