Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

Just finished up my first playthrough. Classic Bioware goodness. After all the bitching about the console versions, I was expecting bad things but was pleasantly surprised - the controls and graphics were both more than adequate. Going to play through the other origin stories and nab a couple more achievements before importing my dwarf rogue killing machine into Awakening.

Thank goodness for Youtube. It's fun being able to see some of the party banter and conversations that I don't have time to experience with another playthrough.

The reports of DA2 having dumbed-down combat, a lack of character creation other than gender, and simplified RPG elements are worrisome.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I just wished they would use the xbox chatpad in some way with the new game to let you hotkey spells and items...I bought that stupid thing and never use it, but it just seems perfect for a game like this to overcome the limitations of the xbox controller....

The lack of top down only became an issue for me when I wanted to revive someone. The game makes you place the marker over their body, and it is hard to find your fallen conrades from ground level view.

Learn to use hotkeys. It is much faster. Hit the hotkey for the spell and then the hotkey for the character you want to cast it on. Keys 1-0 are spells and F1-F4 are party members.

Or you could click the spell and then click the portrait of the party member, but that is slower than hotkeys.

For me, the top down view is most essential for placing AoE spells like Fireball. Trying to launch a fireball tactically from an over-the-shoulder view would be a nightmare. But then again, I have heard the console versions are dumbed down so that AoE spells like fireball are party-friendly.

More DLC

Dragon Age: Origins Ends With A Witch Hunt

Journey back into the southern wilderness nearly a year after the fall of the Archdemon to discover what happened to the dark witch Morrigan following her final moments in the original Dragon Age: Origins campaign. Due out September 7 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, Witch Hunt promises to tie up Morrigan's loose end once and for all.

Without dropping too many spoilers for those who've yet to play the original game, I'm a little worried that the Morrigan we find might *cough* take after her mother, if you know what I mean.

And if you don't, go play the game and find out, and get your $7 ready for September 7 to bring this baby to a close.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I think this game has the most nickel and dimed dlc game to date. This will be the 9th piece of dlc along with The expansion Pack. It's Bullshit they couldn't release all the little dlc in Awakening. I love the game but refuse to buy into this scam bioware has set up. At least with Fallout 3 the dlc had a good amount of content to it.

Sounds like this is going to be similar to Awakenings where you can import your character, but you'll have new characters as members of your party.

Cool, my Grey Wareden and Morrigan need some closure! Though I guess this dashes my hopes that they'd pick up this plot thread in Dragon Age 2.

This is the first time I've ever heard of someone complain about too much DLC.

What? Don't buy it if you don't want to. Game content takes time to develop. I doubt a few bucks here or there is going to break the bank.

Also looks like you're party will consist of a Mabari, Danish Elf, and a Mage.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

Well, just finished the Witch Hunt. It's disappointingly bugged at the end:
Spoiler:
during my confrontation with Morrigan at the end, she acted as though my Warden denied her the "Dark Ritual," even though that wasn't the case.
Also it's apparently supposed to create a save to import into DA2 (!), but I didn't get that either. >shrug

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

This really seems just a prologue to DA2.

Spoiler:
In mine she acknowledged the dark passage and our feelings for each other. I choose to go with her through the mirror even though she warned me not to. As soon as we go through, the game just ends. That's it. Roll credits. Anyone not go with her, or decide to fight her?

No dialogue tree, not as heavy as ME.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

Shame. I liked the dialogue trees in ME. It made me feel like I was affecting the story rather than simply being led from battle to battle (although that was happening also).

There's not trees like in ME, but you're still an given options list to pick from when responding.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I think ME does a better job with the dialogue thing. Plus it's easier to read on ME. DA's dialogue choices are small on my HDTV.

I may wait for that, then.
