Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I'm thinking of starting over as well. I'm just past the intro storyline so I haven't put more than a few hours into it yet. I realized that when it comes to fantasy RPGs I always, and I mean always, go the Elf/Rogue (Thief) route. Maybe it's time to try something different.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

It'll take a while but you will gain more people in your party, and depending on the choices you make, you can have most classes or configurations represented.

"I" am a mage, I have two warriors (one shield and sword, the other Shale from the DLC), and an archer. But I have more people I could choose from. You can set up tactics on your main character so you can control the other classes as well.

I didn't die at first, but now I'm dying a lot (at least someone in the party). Still fun though.

I left Lothering last night and went to the Brecilian Forest. OMG that place is boring as hell. please tell me that the rest of the locations in the game aren't this bad. Also, the forest graphics are horrendous.

I just left lothering the other night as well, but I headed to Redcliffe. Not boring. I do find myself resisting the urge to try and "get kisses" from all the fair maidens in the city though. And I'm definitely learning about things I'm missing out on that I'll have to do on another playthrough.

I'm playing a mage, which I typically never do. I have no idea, however, what upgrade paths I want to take. I stopped upgrading all my stats/skills/talents at level 3 and I'm level 8 now. I have a bunch of points to play around with but since I don't fully know the dynamic of my team, I'm not sure what to do. I do love the walking bomb spell however. That's fun to watch.

Is there a NPC that shows up that specializes in healing or anything?

Also, Morgana/Moranna/whichever her name, really pisses me off. Everytime I talk to her, approval goes down. Everytime I try and do good, she makes fun of me. Sten's sorta hard to please as well.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

There is a healing mage if you do the circle of Magi quest.

Morrigan gets approval by you being a bad/mean character. Whatever seems the most beneficial to the party in her mind.

THe Brecilian forest was probably my least favorite of the quests (that or circle of magi).

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I finished the Witherfang stuff last night and got the elves approval. When i got to the ruins I was more entertained than the bland forest section.

My dumb@$$ didn't realize I had free codes in my game case for the blood dragon armor and Stone Prisoner quest. I am going to do that before moving on to Redcliffe I think.

My affection for this game goes back and forth. At times I really think it is great, but then I will play for a little while longer and be underwhelmed. I think the further I get the better it will be. I am only 8 hours in to a 50-60 hour game after all. I am hoping I can finish before AVP comes out.

It's not that hard to get approval from Morrigan. You give her jewelry. Done.

You give gifts while at your camp. Bring up the menu and select the character you want to give the gift to. It'll give you the option when you select the gift in your inventory.

Morrigan disapproves *-2* You're clearly too much of a goody-goody. I played a (relatively) good character as well, and got her approval up to 100. I'd usually swap her out when I was quest-seeking in cities (putting her back in for the monster-bashing). And you get a sense for what she wants to hear in camp. Hopefully you're talking to your party in camp. There are many opportunities to build up points with all of them (not to mention getting a lot more background info). Keep going back to them in camp thoughout the camp - sometimes new conversation options open up as you finish quests.

And you'll figure out that each of them has a preferred type of gift. Most of them make sense for the character, and the right gifts can net you a ton of approval. Experiment with it and you'll figure them out. Just try to avoid giving one character's favorite type of gift to the wrong person, since you'll be kind of wasting it (for minimal approval). Here's what I figured out (beware spoilers!):
Spoiler:
As mentioned, Morrigan has a vain streak and likes jewelry. Wynn likes books. Sten has a surprising appreciation for fine art. Oghren, not surprisingly, like booze. Leliana likes a variety of items related to Orlais and the Chantry. Alistair like tokens and figurines. Shale likes gems. Zevren likes bars of precious metals.

If you explore thoroughly, you'll find some special items that will net you an extra huge gift bonus - often related to that person's past.

I have entered those codes and gotten the Stone Prisoner quest/area. I haven't though gotten the items. How do you actually get the armor?

You should have the armor in your inventory. Buy the rest in camp.

I can't decide if I want to redeem my DLC yet. I can't help but think that it's all going to be included (save maybe the blood dragon armor) in some GOTY version a few months from now.

I don't understand why wouldn't you? If you already own it, why not download it?

You miss out on Shale, one of the best characters in the game, if you don't get the DLC.

I only mean that if it's included down the road then it sorta feels like buying it twice. And I could potentially sell the DLC codes to help cover my DA:O experience cost.

But... I'll most likely redeem it.

I am around 15 hours into the game and I am having alot of fun. Wow it is hard to believe I have like 45 hours to go. I just don't see how they are gonna stretch the story out to take that long.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

I just got the game on Friday and I'm close to 10 hours into it. My question is do I just input the code for the Blood Dragon armor into the "redeem code" section and would it just show up automatically in my inventory or do I have to do a quest similar to what you do to get Shale?

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

If I remember, the armor just shows up. But you have to have like 33 strength or something to equip it.

I didn't wear mine until the final battle

You have to purchase it from different vendors. I believe you need a 36 strength to use it.

Re: Official Dragon Age: Origins thread

Ok, I need some assistance.

Spoiler:
I am at the part where you are trying to get cooperation from the dwarves to fight the Blight. They sent me out to the Deep Roads and I am lost. I went to the crossroads and looked around everywhere in that maze of tunnels and I can't seem to find what I am supposed to find. When I look on the map, there doesn't look to be any dark spots to show a unexplored area -- I have looked everywhere, at least I think I have. I also have killed all of the dark spawn I can find.

You likely need to go deeper into the Deep Roads. Check the Map. I am almost certain you need to go deeper in. If you have cleared everything, you need to go get to Branka.
