Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"
Just picked this up off ebay for about $10. Gotta say... this is probably the best downloadable "game" game on XBLA. I'm only about 10% in, but for a $15 game, (and I know this has already been said in the thread) it really puts any other $20/$15/$10 XBLA game to shame.

yeah I am starting to slow down with Batman, so I think I will go back for the level 50 achievement.

So I guess I like this game, but holy hell it is generic to the point of parody.
Also, shooting guys in the background is shit, but I guess since it's an American developer they had a pretty hard time not making a generic FPS and lots of little aspects of the genre had to seep its way into the game like a burning venereal disease.

I found some problems with it at the begining, but once I kind of let the game do the work instead of trying to point my shots, I did much better. Not to mention the more you level up and the increase to your accuracy does to it. After a bit, I didn't have any problems at all.

Anyway, I'm about to beat it for the first time and am pretty excited to just start again to start poking around at how to move towards those "master" achievements (speed run plus 100%). It seems daunting, but then again so did the idea on Metroid Zero Mission and after a couple of runs you just knew all the little sneaks to do it with plenty of time to spare.

I'm glad they added the background action in. IMO it works good most of the time and certainly makes it a different experience.

No, so the game can be functional. I've suffered a handful of deaths because the aiming doesn't work (whether manual or auto). The "boss" fight with the four chain gun guys was a huge pain in the ass because of this, I died over ten times there due to faulty background aiming.

Really? I haven't had anywhere near those kind of problems. Yeah it's not perfect and took a little bit to get down, but now I'm much more efficient at it and I think I'm a little over half way done. With the enemy AI being pretty bad as is I think it adds some welcome challenge to the game.

I guess it's subjective. I know people have mentioned some issues, but I haven't seen many discussions where it influenced people into a negative point of view on the game overall, or even saying that with some of the targeting issues that they wish it was pure 2D.

I never had any of these problems and I've played through it 3 times

You not being able to do it does not equal a problem with the game.

I mean, the game is plagued with other glitchy weirdness and bugs, from wall jumping that seems to work when it kind of just wants to, particularly in narrow air ducts, to Nathan Drake deciding to NOT kneel down to get into a crawl space, to suddenly being forced into swimming in mid-air after slamming into something with the speed dash (actually, that one could be helpful in picking up items early, LOL), etc. It's really not that hard to buy that the background aiming sucks.

Did I mention I was playing it on Hard? I don't know if that makes a difference since I didn't ever play it on Easy or Normal but you die in like microseconds from those chain gun guys so a SLIGHT hiccup in the faulty aiming pretty much means you're toast (until you start picking up all those armor shards, at least).

No problems here (also on Hard), but then again I didn't get the Elite Commando achievement in Bionic Commando: Rearmed, either.

Okay, so fake 3D aiming on a 2D plane works perfectly and I just suck at the game, fair enough.

Re: The Official Shadow Complex Thread of "Until Metroid Dread is Released"
I'd say that my position on Bionic Commando Rearmed's leaderboard (a game that has an EXTREMELY similar style of "FPS on a 2D plane" style of gameplay) and my acquisition of the Elite Commando achievement should be enough to quantify that my skill set shouldn't be a question in this complaint. I've literally stood in front of a single chain gun solider and had it drain me from 900 to 0 while trying to kill it with me unloading multiple clips into hammerspace (similar to that scene in Pulp Fiction.. maybe God came down from Heaven to stop my bullets?).

Nah, I think you're just trying too hard. Let the game aim for you because it is awkward.
I mean, I'm not claiming that me not actively aiming can be considered "skill"

Yeah, that's it.
Yeah, I figured that out about midway through the game, but it's still VERY wonky, either way.

I agree with Pixy, the 3D shooting was unnecessary and detracts from an otherwise solid, though glitchy, game.

Maybe I just don't play a lot of games like this, but the 3d shooting is part of what wowed me. Playing the demo, in that opening scene, the helicopter was shooting at me and I thought "Man, I wish I could shoot down that helicopter" and then when I pointed that way and fired off some rockets and brought it down... I was ready to purchase the full game (also based on the high-level cut scene graphics, the apparent game length, overall visuals, yada yada yada)
