I wonder if my dad flipped off Astrosmash in 1982 as much as I'm doing it in 2010?

Not that I'm not having a blast, but damn that game cheats! Though, what can you expect when you get an extra life every 1,000 points and your multiplier keeps increasing? I just hit 100,000 points (x6 multiplier) and have had 48 lives at one point. I think I'm down to 43 right now, though. :lol:

Space Armada
Space Hawk
Lunar Lander
Red Baron

Red Baron I bought because it's a fun game partly, but mostly because a) the "free" mascot is fucking wicked and 2) I hope it brings Star Wars Arcade since they're both vector graphics games. :fc:

That Red Baron mascot is pretty cool. The game sucks though.

I ended up buying Yar's Revenge. I also sent out a challenge to piñata, Gramps, and Groucho. I had it set to 2 plays highest score in 2 minutes. I'm curious if you can enter the challenge and use the free play you get in someone else's arcade for the competition.

Yes it is. It is also one of my favorite Atari games ever.

Megamania is another favorite.

You cannot play for free to compete in a challenge. I'm not sure if you can even play a challenge in a game you don't own. One time I tried to accept a challenge, and it wanted me to buy the game. I don't know how to pay the 5 tokens (or 40 points) on someone else's machine and have it count for the challenge.

They need to have a better way to filter friends for challenges based on common games.

Not sure if you guys can see this since it's hosted by Facebook, but I'm currently #1 in Astrosmash. Took god damned near two hours to do it and my arm about fell off.

Billy Mitchell won't let them except your tape so don't bother. :)

I bought Adventure which I played through and beat on both difficulties immediately. Love that game, but forgot how damn annoying the bat is.

Also bought Tempest and that is like torture. Controls make it near impossible to play. I got the hang of it a bit, but probably won't play it much.

Tried the other games, but none of them were worth it for me. Loved Star Raiders when I was a kid but it doesn't really hold up anymore.

Yeah, that kinda sucks. I should be able to enter the challenge using those bonus tokens.

Sorry, miyu, but I don't like Yars Revenge enough to spend $3 on it just to do the challenge. ;)

No worries.

So far Yar's is the only game i liked. Hopefully they bring newer XBLA or Indie games into the arcade.

Doubt it. It seems pretty squarely aimed at emulated games, not new original games. I guess anything could happen, though. :shrug:

I have friend requests coming out of the wazoo! I don't know if it's the leaderboard positions I have on a few, obscure games or it's the fact that I'm actually getting achievements in this game. I've probably had 6 or 7 tonight (another as I was typing that, actually!).

I keep accepting them, waiting for them to enter my arcade to give me a token, then booting them :lol:

miyu, if you want you can send me a fr, gt:SCHLOOB. I did not buy it yet but I plan to get Yar's in the next day or so. I only bought Crystal Castles so far and loving it. Other than those 2, nothing really sparking my interest in this batch of games that I don't already own on XBLA. And that is my main gripe about this, if we already own the XBLA version we should be able to have it in here as well. That's just my feeling at least, only seems fair.

I'm liking the Game Room so far, although I agree that the controls and navigation are extremely non-intuitive.

Is there an easy way to see which friends have visited your arcade? I saw one listed in the news ticker, but I had a few extra tokens so clearly there were several.

It's funny how many of the games brought back childhood memories of playing Atari. Games I had completely forgotten about. Games like Yar’s Revenge, which has the most horrifying, grating sound of any game in existence, which is made a lot worse by my modern 5.1 surround sound setup.

I'd be happy to trade challenges with anyone who has the same games, so feel free to send one.

I got a number of strange friend requests and messages when I was #1 on Bionic Commando: Rearmed. I was kind of relieved when a few people did "no miss" runs on very hard to knock me down, in a way.

Also, I have to say that the interface is pretty disappointing. There's no real interactivity with other players, the viewpoint is not changeable, etc. The avatar support is basically pointless since you can't control them or do anything with them, and what's the point of lovingly re-creating the original game cabinet art if it's nearly impossible to see? Browsing the arcade, I had no idea what some of the games were from just looking at the cabinet from a distance.

Hey Pinata!

I visited your Arcade last night per your message. Very cool! I'll play one of your games if you play mine too -- I think we get an achievement.

I also bought Red Baron mainly for the mascot! LOL It's an ok game but I was having a hard time figuring out what to buy anyway so the cool mascot sealed the deal. I only really played Atari 2600 games growing up. Never had an Intellivision or went to the arcade all that much. Still trying to figure out what the heck the overlay is for the Intellivision. Overall, I like the concept of the Game Room however I'm not all that impressed with the game selection. Hoping they add Pitfall or Pole Position soon!

If you use the right stick once you are in a game room you can pan around.

The only one I picked up so far is Astrosmash. I played that thing for hours when I was a kid.

I will say that I can't believe how convoluted and clumsy all the navigation is. Gonna be very trying for casual players to jump in and use IMO.

For your own games, you can skip the "arcade" presentation and just play things directly from "My Collection". Can't do that when visiting someone else's, but that's ok since the point of that is the layout they chose.
