I'm sorry, but that is both and .....

Saying that any Mario Party game is a platformer makes about as much sense as saying that Super Smash Bros is a first person shooter....

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

I am actually going through all the Mario's right now. I was a Sega guy back in the day so I never touched anything past Mario 2.

Of the original series, the only one I have not liked is Sunshine. Just not a fan and I am about to give up.

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

Super Mario 64 without a doubt! I've played through it completely at least once a year since it came out and I'm still not tired of it. Followed closely by Galaxy and then Sunshine.

For some reason I feel the exact opposite - I'm not a big fan of the 2D Mario games. These games never feel quite right to me, like I'm restricted somehow. I like the freedom of running and jumping around in a 3D world. Maybe it's because Mario 64 was the first Mario game I ever played, and I'm not able to adapt to the other style of playing? I'm not sure.

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

This:

It counts as one game, since it came on one cart.

And the 16-bited updates to the 8-bit versions are so much better, that I can't see how someone could still play the NES versions.

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

Agree with you, but having them all on the Wii and the better save system are really clutch.

Not only does that cart cost less than getting them separately on the Wii, the Virtual Console versions are the 8-bit ones, not the superior 16-bit versions.

Didn't dispute any of that...but having them all on one console and having a superior save system is not bad at all.

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

Yeah, it's just that they're not available on VC yet. I forgot to mention that also unlike the 8-bit versions, you can level-select on the All-Star cart.

I am going through Mario 64 right now for the first time ever. Amazing game and I am shocked how well it has held up. Other than a few camera deaths, it has been fun through the first 40 stars. I have had to refer to the strat guide often as I don't see how people were able to know what to do everytime.

SMB3.

I cannot vote for SMB as that was an arcade game for me. The only game I could consistantly get a kill screen on because of the turtle trick.

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

gotta say Super Mario 64. all mario games were awesome, however, the jump from 2-D to 3-D was so revolutionary at the time. and it was a near flawless game to boot!

Re: Favorite Mario Game?

Super Mario Kart had the most replayability for me. I was going to put Kart Wii, since that is so ridiculously perfected with new and historic tracks, but I can't fault the original...the original is the best for the resources of the time.

Wii could pull it out if they allowed for updates and patches to be able for players to play even MORE courses. The addition of even one more historic (or new) cup would be awesome, and it would sell. A series would be so awesome I can't even describe it to you.

I don't know why they don't do this...considering the majority of game construction is finished, you'd think adding tracks would be fairly easy, especially if you did historic tracks from SNES.

If you wanna get technical, and you did use the ">" symbol, 16 is actually greater than 8. And the 16-bit sprites look better too, just like 24-bit sprites look better than 16-bit ones.

I got that cart not too long ago and I'm working my way through the Mario games again for the first time since the NES days. The 2d Mario games are great.

If I didn't like Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine - should I even bother with Mario Galaxy? I'm getting a Wii and I was thinking about picking up Galaxy, but I wasn't able to get into the other 3d Mario's.

Yes, Galaxy is completely different than both of those games and IMO much better, that's not to say I didn't enjoy 64 and even Sunshine.

I prefer 1-Liter Sprites, so refreshing!
