The long article I posted above goes into a great amount of detail on the whole idea.

Oh that's right. Thanks. I read it, but it's A LOT of detail, and then I completely forgot. I knew I was missing something.

The little indie publishers don't excite me about this. What does excite me is possibly some of the more niche bands investing some marketing dollars into bringing a few of their songs to the platform.

RANCID!!! Not big on "Last One to Die," but it's one of the less shitty songs from the new album. I'll probably get the whole pack. I used to be a big Rise Against fan until they got all terrible. I might check out the charts on those songs though.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Went to see a local band and thought how awesome it would be to play some of their tunes on RB. They just spent 10 months getting their first CD out and its really great.

Having professional tracks published and peer reviewed for local or indie professional musicians is awesome.

You cant even begin to compare GHTunes with this.

GHTunes is a cluster. It always has and will always be. Hearing tweens eek out their version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is exactly as I imagined it would turn out.

Now is the time for everyone to move to 360, people. The Wii and the PS3 definitely aren't going to cut it anymore!

I'm not exactly sure how that would be useful in the context of the promotion. If it isn't there, it isn't there. Does it matter if it's available through the normal channels for real money?

Joystiq has a video up showing off Rock Band Network:

edit: It's just a bigger version of the video on RockBand.com

This new Rock Band Network is a great idea, I was hoping they were working on something like this.

I am going to have to sign up, since I already work with a lot of artists and have access to their multitracks, this would be a great service to be able to offer them. And to think I thought I would never get to work with HMX since I don't want to move across the country.

I think this is the third or fourth time where I was most excited about the track on nobody else's wish list.

I'll probably just get the Lush track and maybe Time Bomb.

I don't know a single one of those songs or have heard any of those artists before (though I'm aware of Rancid and Kings of Leon). I don't think I've ever felt more out-of-the-loop.

Man, the more I read about the Rock Band Network idea, the more I love it. Such a better implementation of user-generated content than GHWT's "studio." The only thing I don't like at this point is the 360 exclusivity, but I'd hope that any track that passes the "peer review" part of the process will be put in the stores for both the 360 and PS3 (and possibly the Wii). Keeping my fingers crossed on that one. After all, at that point there's money to be made and there's no sense in keeping the songs exclusive to one system.

The latest in a long line of Harmonix innovations. I'm sure GH6 will try something similar and act like they came up with the idea all on their own.

This will be a great way for smaller bands to get their music out to a wider audience, and it gives the players a much bigger library of songs to play.

As for next week's DLC, I'm really excited for Re-education Through Labor. It's one of my favorite tracks from GH:WT, and it'll be great to play it again. I hadn't heard any Kings of Leon songs until today, but I'll be getting Sex on Fire and Molly's Chamber, plus Ruby Soho and Time Bomb from Rancid. Pretty sweet week.

Me too. I see all the excitement and I had to re-read the track list a couple more times in case I missed something...and nope, still never heard of any of them.

that's too bad because "Ruby Soho" and "Time Bomb" by Rancid are 2 songs from probably the best pop punk record of all time ("And Out Come The Wolves") ... Lush is a great band similar in vein to The Cocteau Twins (whom I would assume you haven't heard of as well) .... I don't particularly care for Rise Against or Kings Of Leon

 I've said it before and I'll say it again: And Out Come the Wolves is one of few full albums I'd buy for Rock Band. Not a bad song on the whole record.
