Hello from Amazon.com. We're sorry for the delay in shipping the order you placed on September 29 2010. We have good news -- the order is now being shipped!

You should receive a shipping notification shortly, within the next business day, for the following item(s): "Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition"

The shipping notification will include an updated estimated delivery date and tracking information if it's available. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay.

This sucks. I bet it doesn't arrive til tomorrow now, and I'll be gone most of the day tomorrow. Amazon has been shit lately.

If they promised release day delivery, they should give you a video game credit. They did this for me with Halo Reach.

Not sure if anyone's playing the PC version, but it looks like there's an issue with quicksaves not really saving:

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php...th-save-games/

I couldn't tell if it's just the Steam version, but it's something to look out for. I generally use real saves anyway - now I'll be doubly sure to do so.

I read that, while it's not not exactly Call of Duty, the shooting aspect is more action-oriented and twitch responsive than it was in the last game. True?

Well you get the ironsight..which is typical of FPS

They will. They gave me a $20 credit when Madden 11 was late. The funny thing is my CE guide shipped on Friday.

Anyhow, what I did is went to K-Mart and bought the regular version there. Now I can either return my CE when Amazon does deliver it (but that'd take a couple weeks for the credit) or I can open it up, take the sealed copy of the game out, and take it back to K-Mart, and get refunded right there.

The cool thing about that is K-Mart is giving away a $20 gift card, so I could come out ahead

I know...evil nickdawgy ;)

But, there is hope for my soul....I saw the guy at K-Mart putting out copies of Fable III, including the CE's. I told him not to sell them until next week because they might get fined. He was thankful because he said a buddy of his got fired when he did that and he had no idea when the game was supposed to release.

The Fable III CE looks very nice, btw.

As long as I get the $65 I spent back, it doesn't matter to me :)

I think if it was RB3, I would have bought it myself

The only reason I didn't jump on Fable III today was because I had it pre-ordered from Amazon and they have a $20 video game credit. That and I would feel guilty if I got the guy in trouble for selling it early. The Fallout box had the "do not sell before 10/19" sticker, but the Fable box had nothing.

I was surprised to see a CE at K-Mart, though. They had a ton of copies of Fallout as well. Good to see them back in the game (pun intended).

Nope. In one of the interviews posted, a developer specifically said they didn't have plans to release a demo.

figured it was a longshot. thanks. wish i could get a little taste without a commitment to see if i would even like something like this. i know Borderlands was very very light RPG, but i was totally engrossed and loved every minute (from the numerous side quests to the main story) of it.

Go buy fallout 3 - used copies will be cheap shortly.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

Okay, I played for an hour and here are my pros and cons:

Pros:

I love the music. Kind of a blend of new and old, but we knew that already.
The environment is definitely more colorful than Fallout 3.
Some new weapons are always good.
VATS is back with slow motion kills
The way they customize your character is awesome.

Cons:

Some of the early voice acting is pretty bad. Pretend like you're not reading a script.
I saw a few instances where enemies were floating and caught in rocks.
A friendly NCR trooper attacked me because I was shooting an abandoned car. Maybe it was his?
A little bit of slowdown, but not much.

Anyway, I don't regret the purchase at all. So far I have done
Spoiler:
part of the tutorial quest, and found Primm and Jean.

Awesome game, though. Fallout rocks. Can't wait to get to New Vegas.

How much does the floating people/floating heads and other little bugs bother you? I only really have issues when I get stuck in a rock and crap like that.

aktick 10-19-10 03:32 PM

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I haven't done much yet, basically wandering around and did some of the tutorial quest, but haven't really noticed any bugs. Some weird movements over rocks, but otherwise fine thus far. Load times going in and out of buildings haven't been bad at all, IMO. Maybe it gets worse later? At least manually saving is quick, so you can do it plenty.

It doesn't bother me. As long as I can move and the enemies aren't getting cheap shots (like they can shoot me but I can't shoot them) it's fine.

I got my CE just a bit ago. The install is somewhat lengthy and I have a parent conference to attend so I will likely not get to actually play it until later tonight. Looking forward to it though.

While I agree with you in theory about being "forced" to use Steam, the reality is Steam is so wonderful that you won't mind. The first time you lose a disc, or lose your data or get your HD fried (like I did last week), having your data on a Steam cloud is a very welcome thing.

I played for a few hours and was able to level up, but mostly just wandered around town investigating things.

I started the quest with

Spoiler:
The guy in the gas station hiding, but I need to get my explosive skill up to recruit Easy Pete. I'll probably make a run to Primm later tonight

I'm enjoying it so far and haven't run into any glitches yet.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

Well it's official. I got a shipping notice from Amazon, and it's for FedEx. It doesn't show the delivery date yet since it's brand new, but the FedEx guy always comes here by 10am. So Amazon messes up again :(

Two years of perfect and on-time deliveries and they screw up two in a two month period.

EDIT: Amazon is showing a delivery date of the 20th now.

EDIT 2: Amazon gave me a $10 credit for the delay
I could have pressed for $20 but I was satisfied.

Mine showed up via UPS from NewEgg about 5 minutes ago. I had no idea UPS even delivered that late as usually about 5pm is the latest I ever see them on my street. Looking forward to putting in some time with it tonight.

Played about 3 hours and I think did most of the stuff in the first town. So far I'm loving it. All the reviews harp on the technical glitches, but I havent seen anything that wasnt in Fallout 3. Not much feels new about it (if anything), but since I loved 3 I have no problem with that. I gladly play Fallout 3 in a brand new location with new story and characters.

thumbs up from me

It seems to be starting kind of slow for me. The story I mean. It's definitely harder, but I play on normal.

I don't seem to be into it as much as Fallout 3, but I am sure that will change.

Oh and how the fuck do you play Caravan? I read the directions and I am all confused. I won a game by just tossing cards down, I had no idea what the hell I was doing.

8 hours in and loving it...not as good as Fallout 3 from the start (story) and does not seem to be as many enemies, though they are tougher.

I had one crash 6 hours in coming out of my hotel room....froze the system, and fucked up the save file...thank god I save ever few minutes on my own...if I used only the quicksave...6 hours down the drain...

Went to Best Buy earlier to pick up my copy of the CE that I had pre-ordered only to find out that they didn't have any more copies. What exactly is the point of offering paid fucking pre-orders to people if you aren't going to hold a copy for them?

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

My father-in-law had it freeze on him (he's playing on PS3) and I keep seeing my gun float in the air and then back to my hands. It happens at least a dozen times while indoors.

Also, I am not sure what happened but
Spoiler:
Victor the Robot was lying dead in a field in town. The Doc told me to go visit him for info, but he was dead before I got there. I hope he wasn't an important character. It reminds me of the Water Plant guy commiting suicide in Fallout 3.

Cardiff Giant11 10-19-10 10:44 PM

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

Played about 2.5 hours so far. Seems good but I agree with the consensus not as groundbreaking as Fallout 3.

Also, minor spoiler from the very start of the game,
Spoiler:
I immediately recognized the voice of the Doctor as Saul Tigh from BSG which I thought was pretty funny

Also, maybe it's just me (and that I've been playing oblivion a lot lately on the PS3) but I think the graphics aren't quite as good as I remembered Fallout 3 being. Still good mind you but textures don't seem as high of quality. It also seems to me like the screen is more zoomed in than Fallout 3 or Oblivion and as a result I sort of feel a bit of tunnel vision like I don't have as wide of a field of view compared to the other games. I may very well be imagining that though.

In terms of bugs, so far on the PS3 I've seen just minor ones where characters have gotten stuck against other objects (another NPC). I resolved it by just bumping into them and pushing them and then it was fine but it is somewhat worrying to hear that larger bugs are already popping up.

At any rate, it's still fun as hell especially since I haven't played Fallout 3 since I finished the GOTY version and all the DLC almost a year ago. I forgot how satisfying it is to blow someone's head off from a distance via VATS.
