Had my first freeze tonight, luckily I had saved about a minute before it happened

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

12.5 hours in...level 12...

This game is fucking brilliant guys. I don't care that it is more of the same Fallout 3...Fallout 3 is my favorite game this generation...more is good. If Jessica Alba fucked the shit out of me for near 200 hours like Fallout 3 did, and she showed up with her hair died blond, wearing a cheerleader outfit and said she wanted to fuck me another 200 hours...I think I would be just ok with that.

I only had the one glitch at 6 hours in...

Loading seems longer than Fallout 3...in fact some of it is almost to much.

The game looks better than Fallout 3...not by much, but side by side there is a small jump..

Main story is getting good. It did not grab me as quick as Fallout 3 did, but it already is twisting in a way that I can tell there are at least 3 endings...

I could not stop playing it...near 13 hours...and I am MAKING myself stop.

3 freezes during first day of playing (PS3 version). Seems every bit as glitchy as Fallout 3.

Still a great game, but those freezes are frustrating as hell.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

3 hours in last night...game is the blast..no real issues in terms of bugs or crashes..had some glitching (Shading issues?) at the start of the game..no crazy bugs like people walking in the air or running around in circles.

game is not as intiutative as FO3, but I didn't really like the story line in FO3, so I am already happy here with the story line here.

I need help though!

Spoiler:

The Powder Gangers has a camp right outside of good springs..they already hate me now since I sided against them in goodsprings, my issue is..I killed these guys at the camp..but all the items at the camp are red to me, which makes no sense why I would get a karma hit for stealing from enemies?

That does sound kind of dumb...it's going to be tough figuring out who to help. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of character I want to be, so far been throwing a lot into Science, Speech, and Barter...but the latter 2 I'll probably just get to 50 or so then worry about other things.

I'm going with the 3 skills that worked for me in FO3..Repair, lockpick and Guns

Anyone know how to get a karma boost? There is a ton of yummies in

I know complaining about Steam makes me about a thousand years old. The one good thing about being forced to install Steam for this game is that I had a free copy of Portal in my Steam account that I hadn't played in ages since it was the only thing I'd ever gotten through Steam. I was mainly just annoyed because I didn't remember any of my login info and it was keeping me from playing for an extra half an hour.

I've played 5-6 hours so far. So far no major glitches. I could be misremembering, but it seems like the game looks slightly worse than Fallout 3, but I also haven't had any problems with the radio stuttering, so I'll take the good with the bad.

I don't remember property ownership in Fallout 3 working like it does in this game. Again, I could be remembering incorrectly, but I thought that once you killed the owner of a container, you could loot it without karma loss.

"Played" a little under one hour last night. I'm still at the doctor's house. LOL!

Since I bought the guide decided to read about skills, SPECIAL, traits, etc. And chose one of the predefined configurations, from the guide, to have a good sniper guy. That's what I used to do in Fallout 3, although I didn't follow any guide then.

I skipped hardcore mode this time, is anyone doing hardcore?

Nick, the CE is just a box with excellent goodies, I loved them at least, and the regular game inside. So, the actual box of the game doesn't say CE, or LE, it's exactly the same as the regular edition. So you should be able to return that to Wal-Mart without trouble, I think.

That is kind of what my spoiler is about..

I killed some hostiles..but there was going to be a karma hit for taking their stuff. Is that a bug? or what..Or is it just a karma hit for that faction..but that was suppose to be just for rep.

GoVegan 10-20-10 09:02 AM

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

Yeah, I meant to quote your spoiler there. It's entirely possible it just affects your rep with that faction, which would be fine with me. Is there a spot that shows you your current karma level?

Dunno..but I took some dynamite and it said my karma had dropped..hrmf. Lots of dynamite at that spot.

I usually play these games as the nice guy, but I'm thinking about just being an asshole this time for that very reason. There will probably be someplace you can donate money or something to get your karma backup anyways.

Since they don't have specific achievements/trophies for Karma this time around I am likely to care very little how the world sees me. I will probably remain friends with the neutral civilizations and blow everyone else straight to hell.

I'm wondering..if REP is really the most important..what does Karma do?

It will likely cause certain people to run from you or charge you higher prices for their goods or services but who knows.

Got through all the missions in WellSpring last night and I'm currently exploring one of the Buffalo Bill knockoff casino inside Primm. It took me a couple levels to get back into the swing of Fallout. I dumped most of my points into speech (which has helped significantly), guns, lockpicking and repair. I also snatched up that 10% experience rate bump as my first special skill.

Not sure if this feels as big as Washington to me yet as you can see Primm and Vegas from Wellspring, but who knows.

Against better judgement, I ended up playing for about five or six hours last night. Didn't get much sleep, but I love this game already. :)

Spoiler:
Helped Ringo fight off the Powder Gangers. Killed a bunch more Powder Gangers. Ran into Legioners who were crucifying Powder Gangers... did nothing. Ran into a couple Legioners who had two Powder Gangers tied up. Killed the Legioners and restored my popularity with the Powder Gangers, then killed the Powder Gangers. Went back to the first town, ammo'ed up, and killed a bunch of Powder Gangers at the correctional facility. Currently in Nipton, trying to kill some invisible enemies in a basement.

Oh, and for those who are wondering...
Spoiler:
The 'caps & fixed items' glitch from Fallout 3 is still present.

Didn't encounter a single problem so far. No freezing, no stuck enemies, etc.

I guess the good thing is you get a karma boost for killing the powder gangers.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I'm starting to think that it's intentional. Meaning; looting, no matter who ends up being the victim, is still an act that results in bad karma (like in real life). Killing, on the other hand, depends on if the people you kill are generally "good" "bad" or "neutral." (not so much like real life... but that's debatable..)

I'm thinking you get bad karma for killing "good" or "neutral" humans, and good karma for killing "bad" humans, but if you steal anyone's shit, you get bad karma.

Working from home sucks when games like this come out...my Xbox stares at me all day, and I can't let myself play or I know I'll get nothing accomplished all day. :(

One interesting theory I read in other responses to this same question is that the Ganger's stuff was originally owned by the NCR...?

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

JE Sawyer addresses some of the issues over at SA:

Someone earlier asked if we (Obsidian/Bethesda) knew about the PC bugs that people are currently experiencing. I can't comment on every bug, but I can comment on the higher profile ones:

* Auto/quicksaving bug - I can honestly say that we never saw that bug or heard it reported prior to release. I played the game primarily (and extensively) on the Xbox 360 and PC (I also played on the PS3, but not as much) and never saw anything like that. We are looking into it right now because obviously it's (very) bad.

* NVIDIA + water = lol - This is a known issue that was introduced with NVIDIA's drivers as of (I think) two revs ago. It can affect Fallout 3 as well. We are still discussing it with NVIDIA.

* NPC faces = slow framerate - I hadn't heard of this prior to launch, but I'm going to talk to Frank (our lead programmer) about it.

* CTD Apocalypse - CTDs are often very hard to diagnose, so honestly maybe we have seen "your" issue before, maybe we haven't. These are the hardest to figure out. My apologies. We have to take them on a case by case basis.

* Video Card N + Sound Card Y + This Driver = Death/Bad Framerate - Chances are high that we didn't know that a certain combination of hardware/drivers/some other software would result in something bad happening because, quite frankly, PC compatibility testing is logistically really, really, really hard. That's not an excuse, but I hope it serves as an explanation. Anything that seems to affect a significant number of users and is systemic is something we can hopefully look into.

Please don't take my lack of commentary on bugs to mean that I don't care about them. I just want to avoid hazarding guesses and doing remote amateur troubleshooting. Bethesda's support/testing teams are coordinating known bugs and new reported bugs through to us. I know it's frustrating. I hate seeing people experiencing bugs. We are addressing them as we learn more information about them.

In less than ten hours of playing I've already seen dozens of instances of creatures inside the landscape, much more than Fallout 3.

Still a lot of fun, but much harder. I just got SWARMED by mole rats!

Possible solution to Autosaves from SA:

You guys know you can disable the steam cloud, right? Right click the game in steam, go to properties, go to the Updates tab, and uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization." I've been playing with manual saves only so I haven't really ran into this problem, but does doing this fix anything?

It fixes Autosave, but not Quicksave

Anyone know why NCR might be attacking me? I'm only a few hours in, where I was asked to find a new Sheriff. When I get to the Mojave Outpost they just start attacking. I don't have any faction with them yet.

The people of Primm are attacking me on sight as well (not the Powder Gangers but the actual residents inside a building). I'm not sure if it's because I haven't done a certain quest to gain their trust yet or if it's a bug or what.

Went back to an earlier save and it was fine this time. However, I kept killing Powder Gangers after doing a few other things and kept getting bad Karma which makes no sense. I also ran into a bug where my guy kept attacking despite my not pressing the button. Even if I holstered the weapon, he kept attacking. I even turned the controller off and it still was doing it. Even when I loaded an earlier save file it was doing it. I had to quit the game and go back in for it to stop.

See my above response to flash.

FYI I've been inside Primm, and not been attacked by the people.

If neither of you guys are not wearing the powder ganger stuff..might have to get some infamy with powder gangers

I was wearing a Legion helmet, but it didn't say I was in their disguise or whatever it says when you equip their armor.

Nope, same thing without the helmet on. I'm just wearing leather armor, and I'm Vilified with the Powder Gangers.

Yeah this..one guy said he nicked a NCR guy that ran across his vats..and everyone stopped attacking legion and went after him.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I don't even think I've come across an NCR member before. Only guys were the people from the starting town, Powder Gangers, and Caesar's Legion. I don't even have them listed in my faction yet. This pretty much blows, since I can't really continue without altering how I want to play the game as well as not being able to complete at least one quest.
