Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I'm about, I don't know, 5-6 hours in. I just finished what I think is the first underground quest, where you meet the new type of enemy
Spoiler:
Nightkin
.

I loved Fallout 3, played probably 100 hours my first play and another thirty or so in the second [mostly just the DLC]. But I'm not feeling New Vegas yet. I'm not really attached to any of my weapons, none of them are all that powerful, I haven't been buying a lot but I have what seems to be a decent amount of caps, and I'm not really entranced by any NPCs [I miss Moira]. I continually have to juggle my inventory because I don't know what to keep.

Am I missing something? Does it get more immersive a little later? Tips on weapons? Do I need to keep these 476 PreWar Books I have picked up? Is NV simply too similar to 3 [at least so far]?

I don't think you're missing anything. Whatever you're feeling about it now probably won't change as the game progresses. The weapons are mostly blah. I finished one entire playthrough with the same plasma rifle that I got very early in the game. Caps are very easy to come by. If you master playing caravan (and blackjack at the casinos), you can easily get upwards of 50,000 caps very quickly. The pre-war books are useless in this game, as far as I know there aren't any characters that give you anything for them. If you stick to the main story line, the game is over VERY quickly. Granted there is a shitload of non-story related side missions that will extend your playing time, but they're very easy to miss if you don't wander around and talk to everybody.

Yeah, I didn't like it as much as Fallout 3 either. I still played it for 100+ hours, including Dead Money. Compare that to more than 200 hours in Fallout 3.

So yeah, if you like Fallout, you'll end up getting some enjoyment of this game. I spend most of the time just exploring, though.

Agreed on Raul's statements.

I think I like it just as much as Fallout 3 with the only complaint being that the main story is very short. Like everyone else is saying, though, if you wander around and do the side-quests, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of it, and that's where I think New Vegas beats Fallout 3. The side quests are far more enjoyable this time around. In Fallout 3, in my opinion, they weren't as compelling.

Agreed on steebo77's agreement with Raul's statements.

Just beat the game, I enjoyed it. Ton of bugs though. That and it felt like a large expansion back to Fallout 3. Fallout 3 felt much more epic, and I put in 3 times as many hours into that game then New Vegas (beat it and most of the side quests in under 50 hours).

One thing I'm wondering....I made New Vegas independent rather than side with the NCR or Legion...In order to get a couple of the achievements (beating the game with the NCR or Legion), do I have to complete two more play-throughs??

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: If you have backup saves at earlier points in the game, before you made key decisions that irreversibly set you down one path or another, you can start from there and branch off.

sigh....unfortunately my last save was before you go to Yes Man to tell him you're ready to go to the Dam.

If you skip through everything extra you can really play through pretty fast. I got a bit distracted somewhere along the way and did a few side quests when I was doing my hardcore playthrough and it still only took around 10 hours, and there are guides to do it even faster if that's your thing. Basically just get to Vegas as fast as you can, and only do what you have to and it should go pretty quick.

Playing Dead Money now, what is the easiest way to kill the Ghost people? They are really pissing me off... I just activated the event and can't get back... tons of them I have 3 stimpacks and am low on ammo.

Running?

I don't remember. You don't have any weapon that's good against them?

after you kill one, equip its bear trap melee weapon. that seemed to work well for me. also, you can avoid some of the ground level travel by moving upstairs in the buildings and walking along the ledges outside.

Just finished Dead Money. Thought it was pretty fun overall and really challenging compared to the rest of the game. The collar and the holograms really made things interesting.

And running from the Ghost people did work to get out of the area that was swarming with them.

I went back and beat this game from the point of Yes Man. I thought it was the most satisfying ending.

I just have the Mr. House ending left. Liked the Yes Man one the best so far.

I beat it for the first time over the weekend with the Yes Man ending.

I don't know, I don't feel inclined to go and play it again and pick different options. The game felt more empty and boring then Fallout 3 to me, and nothing really mattered until I got to the Strip.

Maybe a Colorado DLC? They had some real large territory expansions with Fallout (The Pitt etc). But Dead money feels kind of small time.
