Re: Prototype (Activision, Radical Entertainment) - June 9th

It was in this weekends circular I got in my paper. Both Prototype and Legends of Wrestling are fetching $20 GC's this week.

HA! I got through the first tutorial stage and can hardly bring myself to go on. This doesn't help.

Re: Prototype (Activision, Radical Entertainment) - June 9th

I can't believe that there is absolutely no reviews out there on Prototype. I heard there is a media freeze on the game. Usually this means it is going to suck really bad. I wanted to get it tonight at Target, but guess I'll have to wait.

For me, no reviews and no demo = no sale...no exceptions.

It's hard not to get excited based on videos, but 99.9% of the time, a media freeze translates to "we want to sell a bunch before anybody finds out it's terrible".

My advice: Play something else for a week and wait for some news.

Plus it will be $30 by the holidays.

i agree 100%. you would think the game companies know this opinion is prevalent as well.

I have to question the intelligence of these game companies. There is only one high profile release for the entire month of July. In contrast, 5-6 big titles coming out all on 9-1 including Batman which was SUPPOSED to come out this summer. What morons. No one is going to be able to drop that much coin at once.

Re: Prototype (Activision, Radical Entertainment) - June 9th

"Apparently there's a great anticipation for Prototype. A lot of people that have written to our mailbox have waited with buying inFamous to see if Prototype is the better game. Activision forbids us to talk about grades before Thursday, but I figured I'd hint about my impressions today. I completely understand why Activision didn't want any grades of Prototype to be published before the release date. Prototype reeks of a mushy swamp."

Gamestop shows it is now shipping. Guess this blows my Target deal. I was going to get Red Faction, Infamous, and Prototype for their B2G1F sale.

I'd recommend rentals on Infamous and Red Faction, both are very short with limited depth.

Re: Prototype (Activision, Radical Entertainment) - June 9th

Tarantino liked it... going so far as to call it "fucking awesome". I mean, to each his own but that's gotta say something. I think I'll pick it up with the Toys R Us deal and leave it sealed until some reviews come out... this is just too odd to not see something official.

I was reading CAG and they said some site (i dont recall which) gave it a 9, and there were a few posters giving reviews in the 360 thread.

Yeah, Metacritic has a handful of user reviews and one "official" review from PSW Magazine UK that had a 9.

At $60 a pop, I don't blind-buy video games without some evidence that it doesn't suck. Gameplay videos aren't enough. Whatever, at least this will give me a chance to finally finish Resistance 2 and check out Big Surf Island for Burnout Paradise.

bestbuy.com shows availability as 6/10 (at least it did last night).

I own both of these games and they are much better than a "mushy swamp". I'm still picking up Prototype as I have a placeholder for it and a few other titles in the B2G1F Target sale that I pricematched elsewhere.

Yep. I'll probably join you for some Big Surf Island, and I have Bioshock to finish...not to mention Dead Space, Assassin's Creed, and Valkyria Chronicles on the back burner.

I'm happy to let this Prototype/Infamous thing sort itself out...maybe pick up both at $20 each down the road.

I didn't say mushy swamp, I said very short and limited in depth, which is true. Infamous took less than a week to get the Platinum trophy on, and I am 600/1000 on Red Faction after a slow week of playing. These are rental style games.

Unless you like multiplayer. If you do, there's really nothing limited about Red Faction at all.

I love multi-player, but Red Faction can't hold a candle to Halo, UT3, Left4Dead, or Gears. So a super short campaign and mediocre multi-player, a rental, like I said.

To each his own. I love the RF multiplayer and hate Halo and UT3, so thus the difference of opinion.
