really? did you use your PS2 or Xbox? My first DVD was a drive in my then new (1999) Vaio laptop. Then I got a PS2, and later I got a multiregion DVD player.

I don't know what you consider expensive. I go a 320GB 7200 RPM drive a couple of months ago for $65, and they are even cheaper now. Smaller drives in the 40 to 100 GB range are more expensive per GB. Don't shop for notebook HDDs on Ebay, look on places like Newegg and Tigerdirect.
Newegg and Tigerdirect got some cool deals from time to time. So yes, i'm basically waiting for a sale.
