Went in to spend $20 on my boy for a DS game I had no interest in...spent another $20 on two games I wanted.

Not much to "mock" there, but whatever gets your pecker hard.

I just hope I don't see it for $40, because I'd probably buy it.

I loved the demo.

Relax. When you list great prices like that people like to get in on the deal. Standard protocol is to use the 'real' price.

$14.33

...but understand that makes me a cheap ass dad for getting my boy a $14 birthday present! Sonic Chronicles FWIW.

Last week, TRU has B2G1 $20 off, where two games must be $40+... Since my friend needs RE5 and he gave me $65 to get it for him (taxes). I just ran the errand and got me Valkyria for $40 in the process :) (much less too, since i have those little TRU b'day coupons).

Three reasons to get VC:
1. The freaking game never go on sale! Good luck finding it in the bargain bin if the game ever get marked down that is...
2. It's freaking beautiful!
3. New DL contents are on the way!

Only thing pisses me off? No trophies, damn... I mean, the game got medals in it, so why can't Saga just do what Uncharted did, right?

Oh, speaking of TRU b'day coupons (Geoffry $3 off thingy), people, just sign up! I signed up for my imaginary kids (in addition to the real kids), it's like every two months i got those $3 off. It used to be $5 off $25, but $3 off $3 is better i think.

I think there's a misunderstand here... Chess got AC and BP for $10 a piece because he went ahead with the B2G1 free. Since the DS game is $20 and AC is $20, BP is free... So saying AC and BP for $10 a piece is not wrong. W/o the DS game in the math, it's really $20 a piece, but that means the DS game is free.

Anyway, speaking of GS promotions, gamer day is coming up, replenish thy wallets, there might be some good stuff. Oh yeah, if you have GameInformer, there's 10% coupon specifically for that weekend, cut it out and save it :)

He got 3 games for $40. It doesn't matter how he distributes the discount.

20/20/0
20/10/10
13.33/13.33/13.34
7/19/14

It's all the same and whatever he feels he needs to justify it to himself. We all do this in our own ways.

correct, but there's no gift card in the math.

see what i mean? even used VC is priced at $40 and trust me, you won't find a lot of them... Using the B2G1 from GS probably the best way to get it cheap, but it's damn difficult to get three used games you want at the same price level (i.e. all three games at $54.99). Not to mention the GS store got to have the three games you want.

Thanks for posting back. I guess I'll keep camping out on ebay to see what I can find. I'm looking at $40 tops including shipping and taxes, so I'll probably have to wait longer. But I have a stack of games to fill my time until then. Loved the demo, however.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I posted awhile back on some info on the PS3 like the BD, Games and On-line. One thing I forgot to ask more of and it escaped me is the "wireless" part.

If and I mean if I get one I'm thinking of putting this with the new Sony LCD instead of putting it with the 360 in th back Rec Room. I'm hardwired there due to the walls but the Sony TV is close to the PC room where the wireless modem is.

Does the BD Live and on-line play function ok wireless and does it require an adapter like the 360? Sorry about this but I'd rather ask here than some salesperson.

tlwizard 03-27-09 07:52 PM

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Wireless is built into the PS3 and BD live and online play work great with it.

No adapters needed. PS3 also comes with rechargeable controllers (which I discovered to be another hidden cost of the 360 when I got mine - like the wireless. Hard drive, too, but I knew about that going in.)

Seriously? That would be bad ass. I need to finish this game. Almost done with it, but had to stop due to KZ2 :)

I saw Lair for $20. Is it worth trying out at that price (a'la Dark Sector)?

Valkyria Chronicles is part of Gamestop Gamedays sale beginning 4/5...don't know what the price will be, but likely $40 or less (GS "new")

Do you know what else is part of that sale?

List is here, but not the sale prices. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gamedays09

Hoping for cheap VC as well and I'll probably load up on cheap UMD movies as usual if there are any new titles to the sale that sneak in.

A friend of mine bought this at BB a few weeks ago. He brought it over for me to check out last night.

Thoughts?

This controller is super comfy, it's not as ergonomic as the 360 pad*, but it is leaps and bounds better than the DS layout. The analogs are placed just right, the 'handles' are just a bit 'off.' But again, it's still better than the Dual Shock design. The rubber texture covers the entire shell of the controller, not just the colored grips on the sides.

The face buttons do feel cheap, but I had no problems using them. The new 'triggers' for L2 & R2 are subtle but very effective. They are maybe slightly bigger than the stock DS buttons, but there was no slippage action with these since they have a slight concave shape to them.

The only true negative using this is the lack of motion control. I tried it out with Killzone and had to stop and swap controllers when I got to a motion section(separate topic, but why can't the goofy motion in that game be mapped to a button?). I think he said he got it for $40.

If I played more retail games on the PS3 I would definitely say this is worth it(assuming the game you are playing has zero motion), but personally I can't justify dropping $40-$45 on a third controller.

*if this was a first party design in terms of ergonomics I'd rank it: 360, Wavebird, Shadow Wireless, Xbox S-controller,... then way down the list, Dual Shock.

Noticed Chrono Trigger (DS) is on that list. If it hits $20, I'm in. $25, maybe.

I really like my shadow controller as well. I played about 4 hours of Warhawk last night with it and it performed very well. The lack of motion control has only been a problem with Killzone so far, I'm not sure what other games require that type of input. Overall I definately recommend this controller to those that prefer the 360 analog stick layout.
