If your tv can accept 1080i or 1080p, go into your ps3's video settings and uncheck all video resolutions except for 1800i or 1080p.

Because most games are not 1080p.

Bought all 4 of the 5 dollar PSN games. ;)

Considering Comet Crash too, have yet to play the demo.

Picked up Flower (finally!) and tempted to get The Last Guy. The demo was fun, but it seems like it might get old pretty quick. Any thoughts?

^To add to this, the PS3 doesn't automatically scale everything to a selected output resolution like the 360. This has been a complaint from people who have 1080i CRTs that don't accept 720p; many games have to be displayed at 480p on those sets. A game has to be programmed to allow scaling to 1080i/p.

Flower is amazing IMO. This is the second time that Last Guy has been $5...tough call on whether to get it or not. I found the demo kind of appealing, but I had the same take as you.

Very few games are native 1080P on either system (even when they say it on the box), though I'm pretty sure PS3 has more native 1080P games. All things being equal, I'd rather have native 720P than some other resolution upscaled to 1080i.

I do like the 360's single output standard, but I could do without the misleading marketing.

Not sure if this is the right thread or not but looking to pick up a PS 3 during upcoming sales. Is there list of best prices/bundles on the system? Thanks.

The best deal (IMO) by far will be at Best Buy where you get a PS3 slim (120 GB) + LittleBigPlanet GOTY + Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time for $299. You'll probably have to get there early for that deal, though.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

^^^ That deal is live right now at Bestbuy.com.

Edit: Sold out online.

Meijer is giving out two BD movies (Black Hawk Down & Step Brothers) and two games (Ratchet: Tools of Destruction & Gran Turismo Prologue).

12 per store ~ 5am-noon

Thanks guys. Was too late for the Best Buy online offer. I'll try tomorrow or Walmart/Game Stop seem to have pretty good bundles also. Not near a Meijer but thanks anyways!

Ok, it probably has been covered but I went back a couple of pages and stopped... how stupid is it to have to leave a disc in all the time to use Netflix streaming. It's ok to need the disc one time to set up, but ... every ... single ... time ... really, Sony/Netflix?

Raul3 11-26-09 11:29 PM

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

It's suppose to be because of the Xbox "deal" with Netflix.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Does anyone know of any potential advantage or disadvantage of FF XIII on the PS3 over the 360? My thinking was that with a lot of cinematics and cut scenes, plus lots of dialogue, that perhaps the PS3 would be the preferred system to get that game on -- I hate having to change discs midway through an RPG. Any thoughts one way or the other?

spamurai 11-26-09 11:59 PM

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

So far the PS3 version is confirmed to have... 1 disc, no install, lossless audio and 1080p CG cutscenes.

Not sure about the 360 version yet. I assume at least 2 discs but probably not more than 4 discs like Lost Odyssey since FF13 doesn't have dual audio. Probably won't know until February or March rolls around since Japan isn't getting a 360 version.

If it is developed first on 360 I buy it on 360. If in the case of games like Burnout Paradise or FF XIII it was developed for the PS3 I get it on that console first. The lead console always has slight to not so slight performance improvements over the one its ported to and in the case of FF XIII I would much rather have a single disc game with 1080p cutscenes.

Looks like it's going to get exclusive DLC on the 360.

I think it was developed on the PS3, but as far as changing discs, let's see...

swapping discs: 5 second
installing to hard-drive: 5 minutes

And if MGS4 is anything to go by, there might be multiple installs.

The "exclusive dlc" you mention is a downloadable chocoba for your avatar. And that's it.

And spamurai noted above (although there's not a link) that on the PS3 it's confirmed not to have an install.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

What the 360 needs on these multi-disc releases is to allow you to install discs 2-4(or whatever) so you can just keep disc 1 in and play the entire game.
