for $40, its better to buy a membership at costco and get lifetime warranty. IMO

YMMV, but the PS3 has proven to be a very reliable system. I wouldn't bother.

Have you factored in the cost of relocating to an area with a Costco for someone like me?

no, but I guess I should also first factor in the cost of the guy who asked, moving from Austin (where there are 2 Costco's) to wherever you live?

The reliability of the Slim has yet to be determined. :tinfoil:

YMMV. All of the Costcos within a 100 mile radius here don't have lifetime warranties on electronics.

Does anyone's PS3 make a pop/crack noise when you turn it off (or sometimes on)? I know the plastic heats up and cools down, but I'm not sure if this is normal. It's the plastic on my Slim that makes a noise a few seconds after you turn it off. It usually pops/cracks 1 or 2 times and then its fine.

I've heard a computer monitor do this before because of heat, but not from a game console.

The system is on a open shelf with nothing around it.

What the fuck is up with this 3.0 update? My Viking sounds really crappy and sound is giving out.

I read this update specifically fucks up Uncharted?

Did this update mess up the sound also for others? I had my tos link through a splitter and the ps3 was one of them being split. After this update. The sound goes off and on through the tos link switch box, but not when I take the switch out.

Actually, now that you mention it, my right channel audio goes in and out during cod. Haven't tried anything else, but I know it's not the tv because regular tv watching sounds fine.

Everything sounds/looks fine for me

The problem I have is using a fiber optic toslink with a switch involved.

Maybe it's something to do with that increased jitter thing they were talking about.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

What jitter thing is this?

Never mind, that was the slim PS3, not the previous units. I was referring to when they measured it in a tech lab and found increased audio jitter in the slim unit. I forgot you were talking about the firmware update instead of the slim hardware.

I've had 3 people ask me about the PS3 in the past two days. $300 seems to be a magical number.

So my right channel is officially not working now with 3.0. Games (cod4, burnout) and movies (watchmen, tdk) only give audio in the left channel. It's not a tv error, as I'm watching tv right now and it's fine. The cables are all plugged in right, haven't touched a thing. *sigh*

Give your sound settings a runthrough and make sure everything is still set to HDMI. Then toggle the dual output option on and off. If neither of those works...I've got nothin.

It's in my bedroom for the time being with a SDTV. And it looks like the red portion of the cable (using red/white cables) is not working. When I plug the white into red, right channel works and red won't work in anything. And when I unplug the red the white defaults to mono across both channels, leading me to believe it's the red part of the cable. So if I want to keep this one in my bedroom, what's it cost to get a new cable for it? Will this work: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-...2532635&sr=1-8? I remember reading somewhere these work in regular red/white/yellow slots too.

Those won't work if you're using composite (yellow) video.

I'm planning to upgrade my PS3 hard drive and need recommendations. What's the best hard drive available?

I actually have two PS3's, one in my bedroom, one for the projector. Is there any way yet for the PS3s to recognize each other and to send game save files to each other? I've just been using a thumb drive to get the job done, but with homeshare being so convenient on iTunes 9, was wondering if anything like that existed...

I doubt it's the cables, and white is always the mono equivalent even when the red is working. It's something in the settings, I'd wager.

actually, as I recall, 1 specific color of component cables is equivalent to the Yellow composite cable. Can't remember which color though...

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I would be shocked if that were true.

Don't they each carry colors of the light spectrum?
