I made the same screw up when upgrading my drive.

I got the Saying Thanks email, thought there might be something free in there, but no such luck. I had to manually power off my PS3 last night using the button on the back! Thank Jeebus it was there, I don;t know what I would've done had I had the Slim!

I, too, thought I'd be getting something for free...or a coupon... SOMETHING!

No person in their right mind would buy an obviously-gimped system. You've got to send a message to the manufacturers that we won't stand for this shit!

You make jokes, but somewhere Ocelot is on 24 hour suicide watch over this tragedy.

I was going to make a joke about how I received the same email but I actually received a gift but I decided to pass on that.

I hope there are some home grown dynamic themes. I want a keyboard cat one.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I started to think maybe the ony thing I really need to transfer are my game saves. I had Guitar Hero World Tour saves on the old PS3, but I never play it anymore since I got RB2 for the 360.

What other saves are locked? Honestly, I think I just have a handful (Valkyria Chronicles, RE5, Burnout Paradise, MGS4, MLB 09: The Show, Legends of Wrestlemania, Smackdown vs Raw 09, and Call of Duty: World at War) of saves, so maybe it's not a big deal.

I don't store any music or media on my drives anyhow.

Grace Chen addressed this topic on the PS Blog in the form of a reply to a post. Dynamic theme creation requires a dev kit, so only licensed developers will be making them.

from what I can see I think the colors don't change anymore based on time of day.... I've had the system on for just over 5 hours and it is still stuck on the Barney color

I saw this over at Blu-Ray.com:

You know what's absolutely useless? A video of Wipeout HD being played in 3D, with some schmuck wearing 3D glasses and babbling on about how much fun he's having. Well, that schmuck is this Engadget editor, the video can be found after the break, and we've gotta say: we loved it. Especially for something like Wipeout HD, whose neon-infused tracks make for an almost too convenient example of rapidly approaching vanishing points, we'd say 3D could really be a quasi-"killer app" for consoles going forward -- especially if those fancy new motion controllers don't catch on for Microsoft and Sony. In many ways, 3D just seems to make more sense in a video game than for a movie, and the whole problem of finding content to deliver in the format has already been solved: a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to "all" existing games on the system. We're sure there will be some exceptions, but it sounds very promising. The console itself pumps out a quite regular signal over HDMI, which the TV syncs up with your 3D glasses. A 200Hz TV, for instance, alternates 1080p frames, with 100Hz for each eye. Of course, you'll need a brand new TV, but at least it won't be restricted to just Sony televisions. Start saving those pennies!

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

That would be cool. Games could be fitted for 3D so much better than movies. They're being rendered in 3D already, even if all we see now is a flat image. Any 2D elements like text and stuff would remain 2D, of course. 2D games would still be 2D, unless they do kind of fake 3D effect for those.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I was able to transfer all my data with an external hdd very easily. I was surprised how quick it was.

I love the new slim design. I think it downloaded the games, and update faster than my normal one, too.

To make Sony's implementation of 3D work, "you will need a 200hz+ set": http://kotaku.com/5353052/3d-coming-to-the-ps3-in-2010

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

That means 240hz for us in the US, I'd bet (since it would be a multiple of 60 instead of 50).

Yeah. I'm guessing you're right. So any 240Hz set should do?

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Okay. I just made it all the way to chapter 10 of Uncharted with zero glitches (it apparently crashes on chapter 4 after installing firmware update 3.00). I'm guessing the 60GB model is immune to any issues with update 3.00. I wonder if, to be on the safe side, I should skip the next update altogether if it's only to be a fix for the 3.00 issue.

I think its random. I had freezing issues in Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 after the 3.00 update.

Dang, I just got Uncharted a few days ago. I wonder if I should wait to start now. I may just wait anyway, because I don't want to get into it too much, then have to stop on Wednesday when the Beatles kick it to the curb for a while.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Just snagged a slim. Did anyone buy a warranty with it? I know it is a must for the 360, but I passed on it for now. I stilll have a month to decide if it is worth the $40 at Best Buy.
