^ ditto - but it's been long enough (a year?), and I've already played it enough where I don't regreat it.

Unfortunately, PlayStation 3 owners haven't been able to get in on the fun--until now. The Behemoth is taking the wraps off of Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 at Comic-Con today, and showing off the first playable version of the upcoming downloadable title. We paid the California-based developer a visit for a first look.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck yeah!!! I feel a day 1 purchase coming on. Is it still $15 on Live Arcade?

I'd like to see more of these games go cross platform. I wish I could play Braid, and I wish folks on 360 could experience Flower

I can't be bothered to game on PC. Too much hassle with system requirements and such...plus I really want to play in the living room on my big couch and 50 inch plasma.

I wonder why more of them don't. It's not like these games are pushing the hardware to its limits. They wouldn't have to spend months optimizing the code like they do for big games.

Then again, budgets could be a reason. These developers may not have the resources to develop for more than one system. It's also possible that they have deals with the console manufacturers for exclusivity, which enables them to make more games.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

^ That's exactly why Blood Bowl isn't hitting PS3 initially. The cost for the small developer to port the code over to hardware they're not familiar with for an untested property.

In the case of Castle Crashers, I would think that there was a year-long exclusivity deal between MS and The Behemoth.

Hopefully that's not the case with their next game and the PS3 gets the love out of the gate.

I want to give you guys a heads up. There's a great game called Shadow Complex that you might be able to play in late 2010. Keep an eye out!

Anything inspired by Super Metroid is in my list of games to keep an eye on. It's the reason I've played 35 Castlevanias.

I finally pulled the trigger and picked up Savage Moon before the sale ends. I can't wait for Shatter which is coming out today.

Haven't heard of Shatter.

The WipEout Fusion expansion comes out today for $9.99. So does the Killzone 2 map pack bundle for $11.99

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Still no release date for the PSN version of Trine.

The official reply to comment #4 at the European Playstation Blog (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/...#comment-11636) says:

I just want to manage expectations here, at the moment it does not look like we’ll have Trine on the store for next week.
I hope that only applies to the EU and not to the US release.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I'm thinking of picking up a 360 or PS3 to go with my Wii and PS2.

Just had a few questions on the PS3 (I've owned a 360 before so I am familiar with their hardware).

1.With all the rumors about the PS3 slim is it worth buying right now?
2.What sort of connections are on the current crop of PS3's (audio and video)?
3.Both SKU's will use a standard HDMI cable right?
4.How large is the online community for the marquee FPS's?
5.Can I use ANY bluetooth headseat, and how is the sound?
6.Can I feel safe buying a used PS3 (wouldn't dare buy a used 360)?
7.Do they have a "Greatest Hits" line of titles (cheaper older games)?

Blu-Ray is of no concern as I already have stand alone players. Don't care about downloading movies or games. The 360/PS3 will be filling the online FPS and RPG gap that the Wii doesn't fill.

1. Sure, why not. I don't know if it's still active, but you were able to get a PS3 from deepdiscount.com for 25% for their sale.
2. optical out, hdmi out, and then you can get the adapter that does yellow video and i'm also pretty sure component.
3. yes
4. not as large as xbox 360 like on halo, but still rather large and active.
5. yes. sound quality depends on the headset. mine sounds great.
6. i've had a used 60gb one from the best buy auction site for maybe 2 years now. going strong. i actually sold it to a friend and he's been playing rock band on it daily.
7. yes. they do have greatest hits.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

If you really don't care about blu-ray, since you already have stand alone players, I'd choose the 360. Unless you are a really big fan of the PS3 exclusives, in your case, the Xbox 360 it's the best choice.

I'd say that some of the bundles coming out now make it worthwhile, and the hardware is rock solid.

2.What sort of connections are on the current crop of PS3's (audio and video)?
HDMI, Composite/Component, Digital Optical

3.Both SKU's will use a standard HDMI cable right?
Yes.

4.How large is the online community for the marquee FPS's?
Not as strong as Live, but skews to a slightly more mature audience IMO. The best shooter on the console isn't an FPS either.

5.Can I use ANY bluetooth headseat, and how is the sound?
Yes, any bluetooth. It can sound good with BT, but it will require some tweaking of the settings as BT is prone to picking up background noise. I prefer a good USB headset. Any USB headset/keyboard/mouse will work plug and play.

6.Can I feel safe buying a used PS3 (wouldn't dare buy a used 360)?
I bought mine used two years ago. No problems. YMMV

7.Do they have a "Greatest Hits" line of titles (cheaper older games)?
Yes.

The PS3 is an outstanding BR player and upconvertor for DVD, so it's a pretty good backup regardless.

Hope that helps.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

If online FPS and Western RPGs are your thing, I'd probably get a 360. The PS3 has a couple of great shooters in Killzone and Resistance, but nothing as big as Halo. Obviously, they both have COD, which is probably the biggest franchise at this point.

Games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 are on both but run better on 360.

I just wanted to bring this out in case it got overlooked. I've played both consoles, and while PS3 still has younger people playing, in the marquee bigger games (i.e. cod) there are a LOT more screaming kids and little brats on the 360. I've encountered a lot of mature adults online on COD & Burnout on the PS3 and it's very refreshing. And not having to pay for it is even better.

Also, to the slim question, Sony did schedule a conference or something in the middle of August. If a slim were to come out, the fat would probably price drop. Then again, I think there is a bundle with LBP and MLB show 09 or MGS free (I can't remember) and that's a pretty good deal imo.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Thanks for the input everyone.

That's an interesting point concerning the makeup of the online community. I do recall some of the extremely annoying young players I ran into almost every game of H3. Some of them just didn't know when to shut up.

Is it really more mature or the fact that only a fraction of the audience has headsets? Either way the 360 has numerous methods to weed out the asshats.

Eh maybe a bit of both. And yes, you can mute people on PS3 too but if I'm in the middle of a game I don't want to have to quit/die/lose.

I avoid audio chat on both systems unless I'm in a party with friends.

1. I think the PS3 is an ugly system, I don't think the slim will improve that a great deal and don't think waiting for a better looking console is worth the wait if the functionality is the same. Just say it's a new grill if anyone asks.

2. Proprietary cable like 360 but there is an HDMI port AND Toslink port which means no getting raped by first party accessories. There are a few memory card readers I believe but even with my 60gb I have failed to use them more than once.

3. Yup

4. Decent sized, I personally hate the PS3 pad for FPS games (it isn't as intolerable as it used to be, but still isn't my first choice)

5. Yeah, keyboards sync too!

6. I bought a "refurbished" 60gb PS3 in Jan of '08, it's still trooping along just fine.

7. Yes, though it is pretty limited. You can find used games on eBay/half/pawn pretty cheap and thanks to the scratch resistant coat on the BluRay discs you don't need to worry as much as you do with say the 360.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

Well, looks like the PS3 will win out. The ease of hookup, compatabilty with bluetooth peripherals (of which I have a few) and durability of both the disc format and machine itself are big factors (I still can't get my disastrous 3 360's in less than 1 year experience out of my head).

Plus, the upcoming exclusives look more interesting to my than what the 360 offers (many of which I will be able to play on my PC at some point).

Looks like it will be the Best Buy bundle for me (seems that craigslisters aren't aware of this deal and are pricing themselves out of a sale-i.e. Used 80gb with 1 game and a couple of movies for $450???).

Is an extended warranty necessary? And I'm guessing the BEst Buy bundle is the currently the best deal out there?

Perhaps or perhaps not. There are currently no new PS3 models that contain memory card readers, 4 USB ports, and PS2 backward compatibility (software-based).

Well, that's not too important too me as I have a PS2 and not sure what a memory card reader would do for me.

I wasn't trying to explain why it should be important to you but rather why someone might be willing to pay more than you think is reasonable. (it was in response to your craigslister comment)
