I got Metal Gear Solid 4 with my PS3 when I purchased it and I played a few stages of the single player story mode and then I really fell off of it and for the past few months I've strictly been playing online and love it. What can you guys recommend for me to purchase that is similar to Metal Gear Online?

I own Grand Theft Auto IV, hated the single player but enjoy the online multiplayer. While GTA IV is fun, it really has no substance or strategy as far as online play goes, you just go around fucking people up and doing cool shit with a car.

I can't play first person shooters because the camera angles make me sick to my stomach, which is upsetting because I hear Call of Duty is the holy grail of online shooters. I've tried running Google searches for third person shooters and read the reviews but I trust you guys more than all that.

What do you guys think?

Warhawk is the only one I can think of (and is on sale in the PSN right now). That and Socom. There are probably other, less popular games out there, but I'm not sure how big of an online community there is now.

Lost Planet

I bought Warhawk recently. I was disappointed with the graphics. It is third person though and can be played on foot or vehicles. Very similar to the Battlefront series of games.

I would second Lost Planet, I had a lot of fun in multiplayer.

Stranglehold is a fun 3rd Person Shooter. I don't know if anyone's still playing online. You can get the game for $10 shipped at Newegg. And you can find the Collector's Edition for around $20 which includes the movie Hard Boiled.

Mercenaries 2 (Since its been patched) is an absolute blast with online co-op.

played the demo on the psn store and it was a ton of fun... if i can find it for $10 i might need to pick it up

You can get the Collector's Edition on Amazon Marketplace for $22-$25. I haven't had a chance to watch Hard Boiled, but most reviews say the HD video isn't much of an improvement over the SD version.

None of the games mentioned have even close to the community that Warhawk does, and it's been out well over a year. Plus they just launched the Home community and it's on sale.

For those "disappointed" by the graphics, please check those draw distances. I can't think of another game with that kind of depth of field. The graphics are stylized, but I think they fit very well and are downright impressive when considering how ginormous some of those maps are.

For $20, it's a no brainer. I'd get the expansions as well, even if it's just for the jetpacks. I think they are on sale for $10.

If you get it, I'd be interested in getting a regular game together. I was decent but am a bit rusty. I'd be happy to show anybody the ropes...give tips...even be a target drone.
