If you want to know what Fable was really supposed to be, read up on Project Ego. Project Ego was what Fable was originally supposed to be until Molyneux completely changed it. Project Ego was hyped up to be one of the greatest RPGs of all time. The final result, Fable, was barely an RPG at all... It was more like Zelda-lite.

If you had followed Project Ego's/ Fable's since the beginning, I don't know how anyone could be anything but utterly disgusted at the end result.

Yep. Zelda-lite is a perfect description. They were games where knowing less going into the game is probably a huge help.

The only game that i have ever seen hit the hype level of B&W and Fable since then was Spore.

edited to add: Has anyone seen anything about the console remake of the Witcher? I am very curious about that game and know i am significantly likelier to play it on the 360 over the PC.

That sucks when I sent in my 360 for rrod I was using the intercooler because my system sounds like a truck anyways but the one I got back was whisper quiet and I can't use the intercooler anymore because it's too loud.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

You shouldn't be using the intercooler anyway!

Spicollidriver1 03-17-09 09:57 PM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Actually the first system I had rrod and then I got it too boot again slapped on the intercooler and it lasted another 5 months before it died again. Plus where I used to keep it it was kind of trapped and always ran real hot but now it's more in the open so it doesn't matter as much.

I'm pretty sure my 360 made circular scratches on my copy of gow2. wtf is that about? The 360 is laying down and hasn't moved since I got it in November..

My first system did that. I had bought the extended warranty so i complained and got them to replace it. It made circular marks on Viva Piņata and the first Gears. Then it started not recognizing discs.

hmm I'll have to check the rest of my games. I know that my copy of L4D looked fine.

The circular rings is a common problem, usually if the system is vertical. Any slight movement, even if the system is off, nudges the disc loose a bit and kills it. We always stress the importance of our little $3 warranty on scratched games at Gamestop (waits for Gamestop bashing...) due to this problem. I see about 2-3 of these a day, which is pretty bad.

Gamestop is an easy target I'll leave for someone else. I bought Pinocchio on Blu last week at TRU and they tried to sell me a $4 warranty. A $4 warranty on a scratch proof disc. Amazing.

discostu1337 03-18-09 01:28 PM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

yeah, $4 on a blu-ray is pretty bad...especially since blu-rays are very hard to scratch. $3 on a $60 game is a little better.

pinata242 03-18-09 01:33 PM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Even with that coverage, it would have still been the best deal available. So don't talk shit about TRU's pricing.

so my 360 is acting up (Elite; purchased new in October 2007; very light use)

was just playing The Simpsons for about an hour, and it seemed like the disc reading was very loud. got to a point in the game to load a new level, and it sounded like it started to hiccup. just the same noise over and over, while stuck on a loading screen. i eventually shut it off and restarted, and now it won't read any discs. every time i put a disc in, it just says 'open tray'.

thoughts?

toughts? Besides you are fucked up?

The laser/reader is not working anymore. I don't know if that's covered under warranty. If not, what everybody is going to suggest in the forums is to RROD (towel trick?) your console so Microsoft can fix it for free.

will i be able to do the towel trick if i can't even get it to read discs? (will it get hot enough without a disc in it?)

yes you could play and arcade game or a demo so the processor is working

Speaking of "laser" does anyone use any of those Laser Cleaner Discs or Disc Cleaners?

Spicollidriver1 03-19-09 06:40 PM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Cleaner discs are bad have seen many times were the cleaner actually knocked the eye out of place especially common on the playstation ones

This may seem dumb, but is there a way to remove a game's achievement page from the dashboard? I downloaded the Hasbro Family Game Night portal to see what it was like, but it is now listed with all the achievements for the individual games.

Think you can do it for games that you have 0 Gamerscore points for. Press the silver Guide button on your controller. Then go left once, press A, and in the list, choose the game. Press X on the controller to remove the game from the list. That's from memory, so I hope it works :)

Repair's complete, got a new S/N :fc:

Sadly it won't be picked up by UPS until today and they're estimating a Tuesday delivery. So much for playing Ten in Rock Band before work :(

Damn work. I want to go price match microcenter's sale on the 360 version of 50 Cent's Blood on the Sand for $19.99! I figure $19.99 is worth it to get a few laughs at the game. It's also supposed to be an okay shooter.

What's dumb is the was MS handled this "game". They should have considered it to be four XBLA games that were related; instead they considered it one free XBLA game with downloadable content and a GS total of 1400. Everyone who looked at the family game room shows as having played the game.

I always like to see how the XBLA games sell, but in this case anyone who checked the game demo shows as having purchased the game, and I'm sure most did not buy anything.

Thanks. That worked. I never explore through the Guide button.

Blu-rays are scratch resistant, but they are not in any way scratch proof. I had to go through 3 copies of MGS4 to get a used one that wasn't jacked to hell.

Really? I took a set of keys to a demo disk I had just to try it out. Didn't phase it in the least. I did it a few times to show friends as well. Not even a hint of a scratch.

OK..somehow my wife managed to RR my box last week, I think she was behind the console making sure everything was plugged in. I got home, unplugged everything, replugged everything, and it worked.
However....my warranty, according to Xbox.com, expires 4/4/09.

* Is that just the standard 1 year warranty, and the extra 2 years for RROD is "implied"? I think I got my box a year and a half ago, and on the first repair they extended it out to 4/4.

* Since my warranty expires in less than 2 weeks, should I put the box through its paces to see if anything fails so I can get it repaired under warranty?

* If the warranty expiry date is 4/4, does that mean I have to submit a repair ticket before then, or get the box to them before then?

I didn't know where to "complain" so I'm doing it here.

I can't believe they are releasing Ten (Rock Band) and The Pitt (Fallout 3) at the same time. What should I play first this afternoon?

I already bought Ten, before leaving to work, but need more points to get The Pitt. I guess there are any deals right now for Xbox points, right? What's my best option? Anywhere is the same?

Dell has the RE5 Limited Edition Console package for $319 (plus tax if applicable in your state, free shipping) after 20% off coupon:

I bit. Figured my release premium is better to replace than to simply buy the 120GB HD and new controller I need/want.

Just buy the points through your xbox. At least you save on tax that way and it's instant.

Or just wait a bit - the Pitt has a corrupted file and it's being worked on right now...http://bit.ly/117wZh

You shouldn't have tax on a points card either if you buy the ones that are loose and need activated since those are treated as gift cards. And as for buying points on the system itself, I know with the wii I've been charged sales tax before.

Raul3 03-24-09 02:38 PM

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

Yeah, I bought the points at Best Buy. No tax.

I think it was going to be $12 for 1000 points in the Xbox.

Edit: Duh! I did the math and it's the same price $20 for 1600 pts or $12.50 for 1000 pts.

Buying through the console doesn't cost gas or time though. :)
