Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
 I like the NXE. The Avatars were interesting enough without being intrusive, i like the little "programs" they have that show various strategies for games, the community play dates are well advertised, the party system is awesome.
Overall i am pretty content with it and think it was a good upgrade. That being said, it does need to be sped up - it does stutter and lag some (which reminds me of the blade system on the original Xbox). |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I generally like the NXE as well, it's definitely a more "rounded" experience and gives the dashboard more to do than just be a dashboard to your games. Just needs to be faster when loading friends information or stuff from my hard drive (My Games takes forever to populate.)
|
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I like NXE too. This slow down is a recent thing for me. Well, at least, before this slowdown the only regularly slow part of NXE was the friends page with all the graphics.
|
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I like the look and feel of NXE but I get slowdown on the friends list, frequent hangups when using the guide button and my games list takes about a minute to populate. I think they overshot the capabilities of the hardware. Great idea in theory, mediocre in reality.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who suffers from that "slowness". There's sometimes I don't even want to look at my friends list because it takes forever to load up |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Some people have claimed that clearing the cache has helped them. So I guess it's worth a try, if you have the slowness.
|
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
^ They really need to allow control over that. I'd like to target game patches I don't need anymore. Also, I'd like to see what all is in the cache anyway.

I'll only lose updates that will re-download without totally clearing my system right? |

The NXE looks great and it's an excellent idea, but most of the time I'm avoiding some of its features because of the slowness. |

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
There fixing it, the general slowness of accessing your friends list and having the guide menu pop up is being addressed through a series of updates. Additionally, the friends sorting list, Achievement views, and matchmaking support are getting "revamped."

I kinda dig the 1v100 theme.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Cache clearing didn't help so I had to delete the Iron Man save and I deleted the HD install just for shits and giggles.

The Perfect Dark theme is nice. So is the 1v100 one.

Microsoft is pulling the plug on Xbox Originals
Xbox Originals, the overpriced, but extremely useful (if you have a large enough hard drive) service that allows original Xbox titles to be downloaded and played on an Xbox 360, is on life support. As reported by IGN, Microsoft has "finished its portfolio" of games, so to speak. After one additional unannounced Xbox game becomes an Original, the service will not be updated further. Perhaps this has to do with the newly-announced "Games on Demand" service, which provides full retail Xbox 360 titles for download? http://www.destructoid.com/e3-09-mic...s-134699.phtml |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
You would think it would be integrated into Games On Demand. Hopefully they retool those old games to support achievements. It would be super-great if they did that for the discs we still have.
Maybe let me download the image for free if I have the disc in my drive and then only let me play it with the disc in the drive. Maybe that makes too much sense. |

Props coming to Avatars.
In his letter to the community yesterday, Xbox LIVE's Marc Whitten (Notwen) outlined some of the new things we're bringing to the Xbox LIVE service later this year. One of the new features we have is called props which will allow you to add cool new items for your avatar to interact with. If you are attending E3 this year, you have a very special opportunity to get the very first prop: An 2009 E3 Trophy cup that will commemorate your attendance to this years show. http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/...atar-prop.aspx |

Overlord II Demo

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I was debating what game to pull from the pile yesterday and was tossing up Assassin's Creed, Overlord and Metroid Prime: Corruption. I ended up with AC. Overlord remains relegated to the pile. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I haven't tried it yet, but I would stay away from the Overlord II demo then. I imagine the engine is upgraded in several ways and going back to the original might hurt your impressions.
Overlord had a bit of a curve to get into it, as I recall. But it was well worth it once you got used to the gameplay. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
That's what I was thinking pinata.
Speaking of Assassin's Creed, I put in 3-4 hours and so far it's very 'meh. I want to love it, but it's so damn boring. All the elements and actions you do should be fun but they aren't. I love the climbing in Crackdown and Prince of Persia, but here it's so slow, dull and not very fluid. Same for running and jumping from rooftops. Looks great, but not very fun. Also I know it's been done to death but pick-pocketing and eaves-dropping were boring as hell the first time and they want me to do this how many times? The concept of both works on paper, it's a solid way for the character to gain info on the enemy, but concept in action is dull as shit. Oh and I love how you start off with all your powers only to lose them 20 minutes in. Genius! I wish more games did this. Also, did all the voice actors except for one quit the industry? Here the main protagonist is also Nathan Drake (Uncharted) and the Prince (PoP). He's a great voice actor but he doesn't change up his accent, tone, inflection or anything. It's like Nathan Drake jumped out of Uncharted into a couple of Ubisoft franchises. It's obvious he's going to have a long career in the industry, so he needs to expand his range a bit so that I'm not visualizing a different character than what's on screen when I hear his voice. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
^^ You and I have the same opinions of AC. I really wanted to like it based on the hype, but 1/2 way thru I just had to stop playing. Wash, rinse, repeat. Maybe AC 2 will be better but I have no desire to finish up AC at all.
|
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Wait till you get to the end Corvin and realize you have to do those same missions over and over again for every assassination... with nothing new thrown into the mix.

I was the opposite, I really enjoyed playing through AC. I think I finished with about 900 of 1000 ach.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Gave the Overlord II demo a spin. It's much looser than the original. The minions move way faster and I couldn't understand when the RS changed from camera control to minion-sweeping control. May have been just the demo portion since there were points when you couldn't sweep them.
But god damn if there isn't a mini-map with objective markers on it! That is the most necessary upgrade. Of course, clubbing baby seals and riding wolves is pretty bad ass too. It looks stranger than the first, if you can imagine. I can't wait to play the full game. |
