Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

I can't believe they are releasing Ten (Rock Band) and The Pitt (Fallout 3) at the same time. What should I play first this afternoon? |

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Ok, I'm about(read: In the next 3 months) to get a 360. I've been a Playstion fan for over 12 years, and have NEVER owned an xbox of any type.
I'm wanting to grab some of the hits of the systems(both regular and 360) and was wanting some feedback on some games. The list below is what I'm currently thinking about getting. Army of two Assassin's Creed Battlefield Bad Company BioShock BRAID Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway COD Modern Warfare COD World at War Dead Rising Dead Space Fallout 3 Far Cry 1/2 Frontline Fuel of war Gears of War 1/2 Half Life ORANGE BOX Halo 1/2/3 Halo Wars Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition Mass Effect Mirror's Edge Ninja Gaiden 2 Portal: Still Alive PREY sonic's ultimate genesis (some great old school games) Tom Clancy's EndWar Turok Uncharted Any of these I should pass on? Any games i'm not aware of that I should add? |

Fable II Burnout Revenge Ghost Recon 1 & 2 Oblivion Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2 Prince of Persia Tomb Raider Series I would stay away from Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (COD2,3,or 5 can fill your WW2 shooter needs) Also Uncharted is exclusive to the PS3 |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
That list should keep you busy for a long long time. You should also add Rockband 2 and/or Guitar Hero World Tour. Grand Theft Auto 4 is also highly regarded.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I'll toss in:
Retail Crackdown Condemned Kameo Viva Pinata Rock Band 2 XBLA Pac-Man: Championship Edition Rez HD Geometry Wars 2 Peggle |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Another vote for Crackdown.
You already have a really complete list. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I'd pass on the following unless you find them cheap (~$15...check your local Blockbuster, some can be had for $10-15 used)
Army of two Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Far Cry 1/2 Frontline Fuel of war Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition Mass Effect Mirror's Edge PREY Turok Pickup (at some point) Burnout Paradise Pure GTA IV ($15 at BBV) GRAW/RB6V Left 4 Dead |

Blizzard in talks with Microsoft for next Xbox Blizzard's Rob Pardo has confirmed that his company has had talks with Microsoft about the successor to the Xbox 360. Speaking at the Luminaries Lunch today during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Pardo would only state that Blizzard is actively in discussions with Microsoft, seemingly confirming the development process of new console hardware is under way. However, other developers at the lunch have not spoken to either Microsoft or Sony about future plans, which has raised concerns that content isn't a priority for format holders as they plan the next-generation of home machines. "How many designers in the games industry do you think they are rounding up to [talk to], because this is going to make or break them this time around," said Acclaim's David Perry. "I'm not aware that they are putting a big amount of effort into finding out how to make the games. The people who are actually physically going to make the games are all going to get a surprise," he added. Warren Spector, boss of Disney's Junction Point Studios and responsible for classic titles such as Deus Ex, said that he believes format holders are too concerned with the wider entertainment market to focus on games. "I get the impression they're focusing on owning the living room," he said. "One device that lets you watch movies, television and play games and music and all that stuff. "They're so focused on that that I'm not even sure they're thinking about the games that are going to come out. Which is kind of crazy." he added. Pardo said that so far there's been a good reason why Blizzard titles such as World of Warcraft haven't appeared on home consoles – the hardware hasn't been specifically designed around some genres. "There are are so many games like we make at Blizzard that we don't take to consoles because they don't support the input device and you end up with crappy ports. That's why RTS games never do well on consoles," he said. "If I was them, I'd be sitting around trying to figure out what's a cool input device that supports all types of new kinds of games." But I love strategy games like Settlers, Age of Empires, etc. and all of those types of games should be available to play on a game console with a controller that makes sense. Chris |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I think I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway, just in case.
I recently got my 360 back from Microsoft and, of course, the DRM on my previous purchases isn't valid unless I'm signed in. It came with a note that all I should have to do is redownload the titles and it'll start to work. Of course it does not. I could to the DRM transfer process myself (apparently I have 4 consoles in my history!) and move on, but since I can only do that once per year, I'm wondering if I should call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and have them do it. May be moot as I'd like to consolidate my entire 4-console history anyway... Is calling them worth it over just doing the transfer myself? |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
yes you need to call them. I had to speak with 3 different CSRs before I got one who knew what I was talking about. Force THEM to do the DRM transfer. It should've been done by the repair facility.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Will they do all 4 consoles in my history or just the one i sent in to the one they sent back?
|
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I know they say you could only do it once in a year but I have done it twice in the span of a year.
For those of you who don't normally read the gamer interviews read this one there is a quote about a third of the way down and I think most otters will laugh. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/...-thedonwan.htm |

Micro Center has Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Universe at War for $4.99 a piece.
Unless you find it in store, shipping is additional (about $7 if you order both). |

He's suggesting you force a red ring to get a refurbished unit under the 3-year RROD warranty.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Watch the trailer for Lost Planet 2 on the OXM disc and look fantastic. Never play the first one although the demo is also on the disc. This look to be much better than the first and looking forward for any news about this game. The squad fighting the giant lava lizard look cool at the end.

For most of this month, one of the top 10 ranked Community Games on Major Nelson's list hasn't been a game at all, the TV Calibration app is a 200 point ($2.50) tool loaded with plenty of test patterns to make sure your video setup is configured perfectly. There's also a free trial, so we loaded it up and can say it does exactly what it says it does. Most games have at least some PQ optimization helpers, but it's unlikely you'll be able to get this detailed information about pixel mapping and test color patterns with a Gears of War disc, and hey, you gotta make sure those Netflix streams look their best. Other calibration tools may have a few more tests and work on more than one device, but for the price it seems to be a good value. Check out the gallery to see a few of the patterns included, or download it from the marketplace and give it a try. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I'll try it out and I doubt that one does it, but I wish there was an app that let me set a bounding box for the Xbox. I love that a lot of PS3 games do that, but alas the 360 comes up empty on that front.
I have an older HD set (DVI, pre-HDMI) that has gotten out of whack over the years. The top inch or so is cut off and I've never found a way to fix it. At least the PS3 gives me a work around. |
