It's basically like that image is showing you. You just have to put more force into it than it appears. You might need to get a box knife or something to make a hole for the head of the screwdriver to get into.

Yep just attack it like a caveman. As long as you stay clear of the cord you'll be OK since the connector itself is sheathed in metal. Makes you wonder why they had to make the plastic case so fat in the first place.

So, last week I basically long term loaned my 360 and games to my brother since I vastly prefer the PS3 this gen, and didn't see any exclusives coming up I NEED to play right away. He plays it for about 15 minutes, and it starts locking up (I hadn't played it in around 7 months). Next day, bam, RROD . Ain't that a bitch.

Thanks. I used a swiss army knife to no avail. I'll try a box cutter -- good idea.

Don't be afraid of breaking it, you really cant. It's metal inside. Just don't be as dainty as you normally are.

It's funny because it's true.

edit: The Mrs didn't put the box cutter back in the toolbox so it's likely lost forever, but I used the mini saw in my Swiss Army knife and it worked. It's quite deep; I can't imagine just stabbing it with a screwdriver and opening it up. Anyway, I'm getting 5.1 sound again, thankfully. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I really had to use a lot of force. I just used a flat blade screwdriver that had a fairly thin blade on it. Then jammed and twisted away! There are big gouge marks in the casing but I can still fit it back together if I wanted.

Microsoft Responds To PS3 Netflix Announcement

October 26, 2009 - The announcement that video streaming service Netflix would be headed to PlayStation 3 next month left many wondering if Microsoft would respond by dropping the Xbox Live Gold membership requirement to use the service on the Xbox 360.

That answer, as of today, is no.

A company spokesperson reiterated to IGN the value of Xbox Live Gold status, saying it's online experience is still "a generation ahead of the competition" despite a yearly subscription cost.

"The Netflix experience on Xbox LIVE is unique and reflects our commitment for social entertainment. We believe we offer an experience today that is a generation ahead of what others are offering," the spokesperson said. "For a little over $4 a month Xbox LIVE Gold membership is hands-down the best value in home entertainment, and gives you exclusive access multi-player gaming and early demos as well as Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm, "1 vs 100" and more."

Unlike Xbox Live members, PlayStation 3 owners will not have to pay an additional charge outside of the monthly Netflix subscriber fee of $8.99.

Will you be moving your Netflix service to PlayStation 3? Or continue to remain on Xbox 360?

The fact that you need a disc in your PS3 to use Netflix puts a real damper on the spontaneous appeal of Netflix Instant Viewing. I won't even bother signing up for the PS3 version of the service.

I've got Netflix on my 360 and on my standalone BD player and neither need a disc. I don't need it on my PS3.

I love that response.

"We see no need to open up service X in response to direct competition because we have services C, M, Q, and Z that are in no way directly related to or compliment one another."

Having to get up and put a disc in is a form of payment, IMO.

Do we know that you HAVE to put the disc in to use it? Are we certain that it's not just some sort of software install?

Joystiq dude: Can the Netflix application be installed to the PS3 hard dive from the disc? Or must the disc be inserted every time a user wants to access Netflix?

Netflix dude: Yes, the Netflix disc has to be inserted every time to access the Netflix service.

Why a disc-based application and not streaming access through the PS3 browser?

Netflix members and PS3 owners have really wanted a way to instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system. The instant streaming disc represented the fastest and easiest way to let them do this.

Why not distribute the application via PSN download or firmware update, and then embed it into the XMB?

Again, the instant streaming disc represented the fastest and easiest way to let PS3 enthusiasts get Netflix on the PS3. Late next year we expect to have an embedded solution available for PS3s via a system software update slated for release through the PlayStation Network.

Is releasing the PS3 application on a disc required by an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft?

The Netflix agreement with Sony for PS3 is consistent with the terms of our partnership with Microsoft for Xbox 360.
Netflix: PS3 disc must remain in system until 2010 update; and other answers to your pressing questions

Thanks for that link. I guess there's no fundamental difference and therefor no real reason to use the PS3 streaming at present. If anything, the streaming on the 360 is better, not only because of not needing a disc, but also because I can control playback with my universal remote, something that I can't do on the PS3 without a second remote or a $60 add-on item.

Just bought an Elite to replace my old 20gb Pro.
I need to transfer all of my data from the 20gb to the 120gb drive.
Called MSFT to get a Migration Kit. The guy initially told me it'd be $13. I expressed disappointment, but agreed anyway. He took my information, then said that, because I'm in Canada, I may be eligible to get the Migration Kit for free. He went silent for a minute or two, then said he was pleased to tell me I'd be getting it for free. Yay!

Only problem is... I'm not sure how long it'll take to show up, and I've already got a buyer lined up for the old system.

Is there another way I can transfer the data? People have claimed success with a Memory Unit, but I don't have one of those. Is there no way to just copy everything to a USB stick, then onto the 120gb drive? That seems the most "logical"...

I can wait for the Migration Kit if I have to... I just don't want to. :)

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

The fact that MS doesn't even SELL the migration kit in stores, let alone just include it in the package is absurd at this point. Do they really think people are buying the 250 GB Super-Elite Modern Warfare 2 Edition as their first 360?

If they're really that worried about every penny, they could charge $13 to send it to you and credit you back once you return it --it's not an item you'd keep or ever use again. As it stands, all they're doing is fueling the ebay market.

If you had a 360 memory unit (no usb stick) it might work, but there are saves that cannot be transferred that way. Your best bet is just to wait for the transfer cable.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

I'd say 99% of saves are transferable. I just copied all mine to a MU over the weekend in fear of the latest update. I was able to copy all but 4. 3 of those 4 were able to be "moved" to the MU. And the final save that I couldn't move or copy was Viva Pinata. I guess in a pinch I could boot up the game, load my save and re-save it to the MU. So there seems to be a way to get all your saves on the MU in every situation.

My migration kit arrived in two days when I upgraded this month but you being in Canada will likely slow things down a bit. And I agree that these things should be packaged with any Elite system.

Yeah the batteries are funky.

I have and official black play and charge w/ controller that only held a charge a couple of times and now doesn't like to be charged at all.

I bought a cheap madcatz kit that charges 2 batteries and I think only one of them really works and when the battery is low it gets connections problems.

Has anyone seen the ad on the dashboard for the free 2 months of live if you buy 12? When I go to that to read the details, it recognizes that I don't have a credit card on file because I'm sane, but it does offer me to pay with a prepaid code.

I just happen to have 2 cards (a 12-month and a 13-month) here that I haven't redeemed yet. Wasn't sure if I was going to use them or gift/sell them.

Does anyone know or think that if I use them on that deal I can turn them into 14-month and 15-month cards?

I will do that in a bit. I first need to find what my current expiration is so I can confirm what they award me with.
