Xbox 360 to get Hulu? (Update: Probably not)
by David Carnoy (Credit: Gizmodo)
Ah, there's nothing like a little random tweet to start a rumor.
"Just finished promos for hulu/microsoft event I'm doing on june 8!" Olivia Munn of G4's "Attack of the Show" wrote on her Twitter feed last night.
Seems harmless enough on the surface, but put it in the hands of some zealous bloggers, their antennas on high alert for any E3 related news (Microsoft's press conference is on Monday), and the rumor wheels start churning. Could Microsoft be planning to announce Hulu support for the Xbox 360?
Sounds good to me--and a lot of other people, too. Some folks are already streaming Hulu to their Xbox 360s using a little software program called PlayOn, but the idea here is an integrated Hulu application along the lines of the Netflix video streaming plug-in that's currently available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers who also have a Netflix account.
Those keeping score between Microsoft and Sony will be quick to note that the PS3 already has Hulu support via the PS3's built-in Web browser. If Microsoft were to add Hulu as well, it would be a small coup, and it wouldn't be a shocker considering Microsoft has been looking at possible XBox 360 tie-ins to Hulu and YouTube for several months. However, at yesterday's All Things D conference, NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker reiterated Hulu's , anti-Boxee stance saying that, "Right now we're committed to Hulu being an online experience, and that's where our vision is today, and I think that will continue." So, take this rumor for what it's worth.

Update: Alas, Ms. Munn's Hulu-Microsoft connection is related to Microsoft's new Bing search engine and a Bingathon on Hulu June 8. Ms. Munn refers to the event on her Web site, calling Bing a "Web browser." (Thanks to commenter Ninjatuned for pointing this out). Of course, Microsoft could still announce Hulu support for the Xbox 360 on Monday, but we wouldn't bet on it.

I just finished playing through the entire Halo trilogy. I had never played the first two Halo games, and I wanted to check them out. Then i figured "Might as well go all the way." It took me about two months (with some Force Unleashed, Wolverine, Lost Odyssey, and assorted XBLA games thrown into the mix). Lots of fun!

Cool. I have really good memories of Halo 1. I played it a lot with friends, coop and MP. And Halo 3 is my most played game in the Xbox 360 thanks to MP.

Gears. My house is unfortunately Sony free. I played the first Gears back when it came out (though I think I crapped out at the final boss battle). I haven't picked up the second Gears yet, so I'm thinking I'll start at the begining of 1 and go from there.

I am in the middle of my 5th or so play-thru of Halo 1. I don't think I have ever played a game like it that many times. I am usually a "one and done" player.

It's like the fucking Twilight Zone or something. There are 0 people online right now. On a Saturday night. I have about 70 people on my friends list and I can't recall the last time nobody was on. I could log on at 4am on a Tuesday and find someone. Bizarre.
Spurred by brian's post, I decided to pop in Halo myself. I started the game a while back via disc and bought the Xbox Original when it was on sale. Lucky for me the save game plays nice with both. I picked up where I left off. I knocked it out on Heroic way back when so I dropped it down to Normal just so I can run through it stress free. Still a great game.

Has anyone noticed a slow down when going in and out of the menu through the Guide Button or when looking at other player's info? Does this mean my cache needs to be cleared?

Yeah I noticed that also, a lot of people have been complaining about it on the xbox forums. I have no idea what is causing it.

I don't really understand why they don't allow you to switch back and forth between the two. There were some things I really preferred about the old one. It's not that big of a deal, I don't spend that much time on it anyway, but still.

If the option was there I would go back to the blades immediately. NXE was just as much of a bust as Playstation Home to me.

I like the NXE. The Avatars were interesting enough without being intrusive, i like the little "programs" they have that show various strategies for games, the community play dates are well advertised, the party system is awesome.Overall i am pretty content with it and think it was a good upgrade.
That being said, it does need to be sped up - it does stutter and lag some (which reminds me of the blade system on the original Xbox).

I generally like the NXE as well, it's definitely a more "rounded" experience and gives the dashboard more to do than just be a dashboard to your games. Just needs to be faster when loading friends information or stuff from my hard drive (My Games takes forever to populate.)

I like NXE too. This slow down is a recent thing for me. Well, at least, before this slowdown the only regularly slow part of NXE was the friends page with all the graphics.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I like the look and feel of NXE but I get slowdown on the friends list, frequent hangups when using the guide button and my games list takes about a minute to populate. I think they overshot the capabilities of the hardware. Great idea in theory, mediocre in reality.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who suffers from that "slowness". There's sometimes I don't even want to look at my friends list because it takes forever to load up
