Today's DOTD is Battle For Terra for 80 points. I have no idea what the heck that is, but there you go.

It's not bad, but no "deal".

game progress will save automatically or at specified points with original XBOX (Halo 1) games on 360, correct?

also, when you play an original game, you can only shut off the entire console when you stop, can't go back to Dashboard at all?

Yes, Halo will checkpoint just like it did on the original xbox.

As far as returning to the dashboard, hit the center button, then hit y. It will return you to the dashboard (at least if you have the current dashboard on your xbox).

No, you need to save and quit on Halo. There are some checkpoints but, IIRC it's like ODST. You'll end up replaying large chunks of the game if you just go back to the dash.

Agreed, I just thought he was asking could he get back to the dash at all from Halo, since he asked:
"also, when you play an original game, you can only shut off the entire console when you stop, can't go back to Dashboard at all?"

and the answer is yes, you can get back to the dash with the instructions I gave him. Yes, you should save and quit before that, I wouldn't just exit to the dash without saving and quitting.

yes, that is what i meant, save and then be able to return to dashboard after. i pressed just the dashboard button and it just optioned to turn off console. i guess the y is the key.

is that, press center button and y at same time or one then the other?

thanks guys.

^Actually, if you quick press the center X button you then can click Y to go back to the dashboard. If you long press the center X button you then have the option to turn off the controller or shut down the system.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

when synching two wireless controllers...

i synched my first one no problem and it read the upper left quadrant.
when i went to sync a 2nd controller when the first was off, it read the same quadrant. now when i turned my first on it had to resync to another quadrant.

only when both controllers are on can i sync to different quadrants.

my questions...how i can i sync the 2nd, used for only certain games controller to another quadrant and have it remain to that quadrant permanently?

thanks again.

You'll never permanently synch a controller to a specific quadrant. The xbox forgets once it's shut off.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

My current 360 was purchased in August of 2007, I've had 2 go bad since, and it's now on its last legs again. Should I just bite the bullet and get one of the new Arcades (I'm assuming they are the quieter ones that also seem to be a bit more reliable?), or will my replacement be one of those newer/quieter/more reliable units?

I see there's a deal at Walmart.com now ($259 for a 360 Arcade, 2 of CoD MW2, Forza 3, NFS Shift, a 12-month gold card, and a $50 Walmart eGift card) that seems to be pretty decent. Any better deals out there now?

If I didn't have anywhere to put a 2nd one, I'd just deal with the replacement they send me, but I could make use of a 2nd unit.

so if i keep swapping use of controllers do i have to resync everytime or when i use both at different times it will auto sync to the last quadrant it had even if they use the same and i will be good to go by pressing X button to turn on regardless of which i use?

What? You sync with the system once. Then every time you turn it on after that, it takes the next available spot.

Why are you switching controllers during a session anyway? What does that accomplish?

no, no, not during a session. i meant when i play for awhile, shut the system off, let that battery charge and use the 2nd controller when the other is still charging later on.

Getting the RROD on a 360 is like having sex with Kobe Bryant...you can kick and scream all you want but...it's...it's gonna happen anyway.

if it pisses you off so much, isn't easier to just not respond.

i ask so i know. when i know i move on and understand better why certain things happen or occur and can look out for stuff i might not be aware of in the future (which is a lot since this is all new to me). trust me i go to google first now bc as much as i can bear i don't need it crammed down my throat all the time with every post.

i take my time with stuff and like to understand certain things prior to just jumping in. that's all. it may be anal or annoying, but that's what i like to do. just pass it on by and there wouldn't be such a need to comment on everything i say or do or ask.

to those that are incredibly helpful thanks so much! for those that feel the need to comment on every post i make regardless of the inanity or not, what's the big deal.

doesn't piss me off, it's just that some things are inevitable. GatorDeb spending money, the RROD, and Pinata calling me a douche...all things that happen, none of which can be stopped. Some things ARE worth knowing every little detail. Like how to cook Yorkshire Pudding, or how to change a diaper...but somethings aren't. Easy as that.

And me saying stfu and just enjoy the system is just that. enjoy it, and stop worrying.
