Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I thought the big savings was going to be cutting out the middleman in terms of shipping stock to B&M stores? I get that cards are easier to ship but they still have to be produced, activated, etc, and supposedly the stores and distributors and whatnot will still get their cut, so wouldn't people still complain straight digital should be cheaper?

That savings would likely be minimal, especially considering that publishers would be more likely to send more than enough cards to cover any potential rush, and retailers would be willing to take in many more cards than physical stock, providing they're not paying until the card is sold.

Also, the initial price of a video game has very little to do with the cost of the physical media. Most of it's a reflection of the cost to develop and market the game.

What will be removed, is the incentive to clear out old stock by reducing price. The price will likely drop on par with the Xbox Live online price, but it'll probably be at a slower rate than disc-based titles drop.

Actual price drops, I agree. But sales would still occur quite regularly to get people in stores.

It depends on what the margin publishers give retailers with the digital code cards. Since the retailers aren't investing as much, if any, money upfront into the product, the publishers might not give them as big of a wholesaler discount.

Retailers could still sell things at a loss, but it could still be a smaller discount since they don't have the margin to eat into before they start actually losing money per sale.

And depending on the retailer, they could switch to discounting other products to get people into the store besides games.

Yep, loss leaders.

Red Box is clearing out older titles in their Kiosks

Some titles are way overpriced (Doom, Dark Souls 3 for $38.99) but with various decent deals tossed in

But this whole discussion started because people want digital titles to be much cheaper upfront. Sorry for derailing the thread.

So, supposedly you can get an Xbox One S for cheap by ordering this and canceling the Blu-ray and extra controller, making it come down to around $220.

Sure, why not, for free!

That game is still one of the best of the last few years.

Ms. Splosion Man was great too, but really ratcheted up the difficulty.

It's free for Gold members. Also, grab the free "Prologue to Ms Splosion Man" DLC.

The framerate was really bad in the prologue levels, if I remember right. The main game is awesome though.

Wouldn't it be a good idea for this thread to be sticky?

For the month of September, Ubisoft is giving away The Crew.

https://club.ubisoft.com/en-US/ubi30

Also, the PS4 digital version of The Last of Us is going for $9.99.

I was thinking it would help increase awareness for deals. That's why I requested this thread to be sticky.

fumanstan 10-02-16 11:50 AM

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

The Video Game forum is probably the only one where I notice stickies because of the main console threads... every other forum on here and completely ignore their existence.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

Stickies are horrible. I never notice when they get bumped. Threads that move up and down, those I notice.

I'm with Trevor. I like the deal thread being bumped. Far more noticeable.
