Just checked and made sure I already owned both Infinity Blade II (agree that I don't keep it on my phone because of file size--maybe someday when I know I'm going to play it) and Tilt to Live. I notice, though, that Tilt to Live 2 is free. Is that because they went to a crappy freemium model like Plants vs. Zombies?

I caught that too. I haven't played it yet, but it only has one IAP, which looks like an expansion pack for .99, so I think the answer is "no".

When I went to the app store, I saw Assassin's Creed Pirates is app of the week, but I'm not sure if it's usually free or not.

No, it's a first time freebie too. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm in the mood for something swashbuckly.

Apple's iPhoto is free right now, though they are still advertising it at $4.99.

I only see a $4.99 price.

I clicked on the app through the featured "Explore Your Creative" banner section in iTunes and it popped up as free even though it showed $4.99 on this list.
