Welcome to the N.I.T. bracket (losers bracket) of the Video Game Draft Tournament! 16 DVDTalkers drafted 10 console or portable video games.
Round one has been completed.
Now it is up you, the fine gamers of DVDTalk, to vote on which player has drafted the best collection in this the N.I.T. bracket.

Players have been randomly paired up by me picking slips of paper out of a They Might Be Giants Beanie. To vote simply post in this thread telling me who you think has the best lineup. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair! Your vote will not count if you edit the post where you vote!

Players in the game are encouraged to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! Voting ends on Tuesday, December 23rd, at the exact time of the timestamp of this post. Match-ups will be listed in post #2.

edstein vs. The Bus -- I went back and forth on this one. I think edstein pulled GTAIV out too early, but he made up for it later on in the list.

JasonF vs. spainlinx0 -- After the first few FANTASTIC picks, spainlinx0 suddenly went downhill. Not sure what happened there. But JasonF picked several of my personal favorites, so I had to got that way.

Raul3 vs. cruzness -- I'm still baffled at the PS2 version of BG&E on cruzness's list, but I'm even more baffled that Raul3 picked Uncharted so early.

Fandango vs. Lordwow -- Fandango has a list of obscure games that might be great but nobody's played them. Lordwow's games are mediocre at best, but at least I've tried most of them.

I do not like Metal Gear Solid very much and cruzness choose the worse version of 2 games. Raul3 only make one bad choice (should have gone with Turbo SFII). But, add in Assassin’s Creed and that equals a loss for cruzness.

I don't know If I'm going to win or lose, but let me tell you, I love cruzness list. Dead Space was one of my favorite games of this year.

edstein v. the Bus - poor ed can't catch a break for the sports titles from anyone, and ultimately, me either. However edstein has the original Metroid Prime. Echoes, Bus? Really? In the end, Bus wins it by a nose with Mario Kart and Burnout Revenge, two games I have poured more than 60 hours into each.

jasonF v. spainlinx - like edstein, poor spainlinx isn't catching a break this round either. Bioshock, Gears, Puzzle Quest, Pikmin & Ratchet are enough to make me overlook all the RPGs. Problem with spainlinx is that outside of Mega Man III, I wasn't blown away with any of the pics.

Raul v. cruzness - Raul only has two games I love on his list, Halo & Crackdown. Donkey Kong 64 was okay, but doesn't belong near a top 10 with so many other great games out there. Same goes for some of the others. Cruz does have BG&E a pick I'm sorry I missed and a personal top 5 title from last gen. Unfortunately variety is the spice of life and cruz has 7 Playstation titles? Branch out man. Raul gets it for the variety.

Fandango v. Lordwow - based on personal tastes lordwow starts out in the hole with me with two sports titles and two RPGs which leaves the matchup at 10 vs. 6. Not really a fair fight even with SMW, RE4 at your side. Like mattysemo's pick of Half-Life 2 (xbox) in the big boys bracket, Portal seemed like a grasping at straws pick since Orange Box was disqualified. Even factored in since it is by all accounts an outstanding game (the original anyway), Fandango's list is too strong for it to matter. Super Mario Kart, Dead Rising, Ratchet & Metroid is a powerful combo.

The Bus - I would have voted for edstein based on Twisted Metal 2 alone, but The Bus just has too many great games.

JasonF - I don't know how JasonF wound up in the loser's bracket. Sadly, because there are some good games on there, Spainlinx0 has the worst of all the lists.

cruzness - Raul3's list is a little too multiplayer heavy for me.

Lordwow - A lot of great games vs a lot that I've never even played. My loss is your loss, Fandango.

edstein vs The Bus - It's all pretty even until The Bus wins me over again with his honey of a 10th round pick. I want to pick the edstein and SSX3 and MP1 but he loses me as I haven't played anything other than NHL after that (and this pick really should be '94).


JasonF vs. Spainlinx0 - Jason F has a strong, strong list overall. Spainlinx0 list demands attention with SotN. In the end, I'm torn, but I've got to go with the overall list. Other than Etrian Odyssey and Gears of War, I've played and enjoyed every game on JasonF's list. How can I turn down Pikmin?


Raul3 vs cruzness - cruz said Metal Gear Solid and I said 'hallelujah.' cruz said Beyond Good and Evil and I said 'preach on.' cruz said behold Perfect Dark and Assassin's Creed and I said 'praise Rare' and 'I'm sorry, what?' Even with that last crisis of faith in the oh great cruzness, Raul3 can't bring me back... because I think I'm the only person left that's never, ever played Halo. Yes, I know. It's a travesty. Sad but true for Raul.


Fandango vs. lordwow - Fandango got robbed! Fandango got robbed! I demand a recount after the last round. Chrono Trigger, MarioKart, MGS4, Metroid, Bionic Commando, Ikaruga... old school classics, cultish faves and modern awesomeness rule the day. lordwow's got some real nice picks, real nice... but there's just too much power for Super Mario World for Sonic 2 to overcome.
