It would have been more effective to reduce the number of people, but make them each unique individuals.

Nobody reacts or runs away until you get close. When you get to the lower level everybody is just standing around like it's just another day, despite all the loud carnage just feet away.

Least favorite: The first Brazil level. It was just a confusing mess. You have to take on like 60 guys by yourself, on their ground. Half the time I didn't know where the hell I was being shot from and add to that the guy on comms yelling updates about the objective that as far as I could tell mean nothing to me.
I'd agree with this as well. If I play through again I think they key to the Brazil level is take your time at the beginning of the level. You have 2 or 3 guys with you, but mine died rather fast. I think if they were with you (assuming they can stay) I would make the level much easier. Those updates also made me feel like I was going too slow and needed to hurry. I was also under the impression that if I stayed more guys would spawn. I even had a message pop up telling me I couldn't stay where I was.

No...

Spoiler:

The person you knifed at the end was Shepard who wanted to bring back patriotism to the United States.

Shepard was upset over the death of 30,000 soldiers in Iraq (confirming that COD4: Modern Warfare took place in Iraq) as the "world watched on the news." What Shephard failed to realize is that the nuke went off without enough time to pull troops.

If you remember in the COD4: MW, command tells you to save the pilot as fast as you can because you won't be at a safe distance if the weapon goes off.

Shephard thought that if he can "convince" Makarov to "help" start a war between the US and Russia, that people would lining up to serve. Families would be more supportive of the war effort and people would love America once more. He was disullusioned.

As for Makarov: no, he does not die at the end. Price and Makorov have a "see you in hell pact" and neither one has fufilled it yet. The ending is left open ended for possible third entry into the series.

I'm hooked on the Special Ops right now. I think they're more fun than the single-player campaign.

If anyone wants to play the co-op-required Special Ops on Veteran some time this weekend, let me know.

I would change the word "possible" to "definite."

One more plot question...
Spoiler:
why are Shepard's men trying to kill Makarov's men at the end? Is Shepard trying to kill them all to "tie up loose ends"?

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - No Russian in this thread

I completed the game last night. For a little while there, I was getting worried about being dissapointed that it wouldn't be bettern than the first but it was.

I hear a lot of complaining about the length of the single player mode....I for one think it's enough when it finally ends. If they ever make some major changes to the gameplay then I'm all for a longer single player experience but as it stands...it's long enough for what it is.

Not sure why a lot of people say the story is ridiculous - I thought it was done well.

Good game - already dug into the mulitplayer before beating it - they definitely just improved on what was already in place and it's a lot more enjoyable to play.

Spec-ops is pretty damn intense as well.

That was a very nice overview and nice to know I'm not the only one who was totally confused.

I think it's so disapointing because it gets so close to an awesome story but just falls apart at the end.

Yeah, all the stuff in that article is pretty much summed up the reason why the game lost me. This was supposed to be "The Dark Knight" of video games (Okay, I made that one up) but it was super hyped. The storytelling was amateurish... this seems to happen in sequels. Rainbow Six -great story, Rainbow Six 2 -convoluted story.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - No Russian in this thread

I'm a fairly new call of duty player on PS3 and went right to online to start with (with a friend who's quite the seasoned player), and obviously I was getting a good kicking by him and the other matched (I think matched with him!) players. I think I'm learning with each game and just won my first FFA online. Any tips for a new player? I know the obvious is doing the campaign/story but quite frankly I just love to play games online, like my last serious game played Unreal Tournament.

Just stick with it man. The more you play the more upgrades & perks you get, which makes kickin' ass easier.

For me the entire thing was gimmicky. They found a big important moment from the first game that people really responded to and decided to do something like that every hour or so. That doesn't make it "more awesome" IMO, I find that it cheapens the effect.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - No Russian in this thread

Have you guys found any good places to summon air drops? I've found some crafty places.

The Estate map is full of golden spots. If your team has the main house taken you can go down to the ground floor and whip your grenade into the hot tub and the crate will fall through the glass sky light into the jacuzzi. Also, if you go to the greenhouse and take the stairs into that little underground cellar you can whip the grenade up the stairs, the crate will get dropped through the ceiling and roll down the steps to you.

For me, other than the Rust map, the most challenging place to successfully get your crate is the High Rise map. A lot of my team members would run to the middle roof tops and throw their smoke grenade there. That's a bad idea because everybody is walking around out there and you're more likely to get whacked. If you go to one of the buildings you can get in the middle of the open desk area, lay down in one of the cubicles and whip your smoke grenade into the center of the carpeted area and the air drop will crash through the glass ceiling and fall at your feet. This is perfect because while you're hiding in the cubicle you can go undetected and shoot people who come for your crate.

How about you guys? Find any sneaky places to call in an air drop?

As for bad places to call in your air drop, the fucking under pass level. I can't tell you how many times I've thrown my stupid grenade and waited for a Sentry Gun or whatever I've summoned, only to look up and see that god damned high way holding onto whatever is supposed to be mine!

...and I can't believe there's actually a reward for dropping an air drop onto an enemy. That has to be completely by chance.

I'd hate to be that enemy during the last kill shot.

Basic stuff really ....

Play, play, play.

Learn the maps (primary routes of traffic/choke points/sniping positions/outflanking positions). Consider setting up a private match, pick a map, make sure to set the time to unlimited and go nuts. A little boring but you'll get a feel for various layouts and you can do it without running for cover constantly.

Learn weapons - which weapons work the best for your playing style. Short/medium/long range.

Learn the perks - this way you can match different abilities that are suitable for any particular map. Some playing styles work better for certain maps. I find the "sleight of hand" (super-fast reload speed) helps me a great deal in map settings that are tight and confined (Karachi/Favela/High Rise).

Upgrades - pick a couple of weapons you're comfortable with and continuously play them. Make them more powerful with the add-ons.

Kill Streaks - once you begin unlocking kill streak settings, if you pick a
good pattern - one kill streak will further more kill streaks - leading to a succession of enemy deaths and more points for you.

Oh yeah ..if you're on a crappy team that is getting wiped all over the map - leave. When you become better you might just turn the tide in that type of a situation; but as a beginner (unless you're a sadist) - at least I - find the situation useless and unhelpful to development.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - No Russian in this thread

Been playing online quite a bit. I've got most of the perks I regularly use up to pro levels and am a Master Seargent II at the moment. I mostly play domination and CTF as I am not the most efficient killer, but I rack up plenty of assists and flag/point captures. One day I will actually play the rest of the single player...but not for a while!

I wish they had a way to balance teams (for skill level) as I have been in games where teams consisted of all enlisted guys against all high ranking officers. It generally starts out fine for the first 2 minutes until they get all their kill streaks going and then it turns into a Harrier, Copter and bombing fiasco. So, your choices are stay inside so you don't get killed and watch the score get out of control, or go outside, get killed repeatedly and watch the score get out of control.

Sometimes I will leave the game if it seems entirely futile to continue, other times it's suicide bomber time where I run around lobbing my grenades and using my grenade launcher hoping to get random kills before getting taken down by harrier or copter fire.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - No Russian in this thread

For those getting started, I think it's easier to play Free For All rather than Team Deathmatch. The reason I say this is that if you're stuck with terrible players in Team Deathmatch, the game becomes unfun very quick. In FFA you can fend for yourself a bit easier. I also go in there when I need a bunch of kills quickly to unlock weapon attachments.

Harriers and choppers are not a problem if one of your classes has a secondary weapon of a rocket launcher. After a while you know where in the map to stand and take down the vehicles. Any matches I'm in the vehicles (even Pave Lows) don't last for very long. Stay somewhere where you can see the vehicle but it can't shoot you directly. (Windows are great, or right under it, where it can't shoot).

It's gotten to the point that I shoot down UAVs as well, just to be an asshole.

Also, play some hardcore team deathmatch... You'll go into regular team deathmatch feeling like a champion.

I did that too, just finished on Hardened, which I found a lot more fun/challenging. Not sure why I'm pretty decent solo but get obliterated on multiplayer. Takes most of the fun out of it, and I'm not sure I have it in me to keep getting killed to get the perks.
