wow nice.. ill have to keep an eye on that one

ah.. just noticed that those are the 520
i was looking at the xbox model

anyone know what you gain/lose with the xbox model vs 520, 550, or 880

looks like the 550 is on sale for 40 regularly

Michael Corvin 01-04-09 04:09 PM

The 880 is a pretty premium type remote that is usually in the $120-$200 range. IIRC, the xbox one is usually in the sub $100 range. I'm not familiar with the Xbox one, but the 880 has a pretty large full color screen and is completely programmable on your PC and even on the web.

I'd say if you are wanting a remote for just a TV and your Xbox the 880 would be overkill. Now if you are using it for a few components like a stereo, Tivo, PS3, or even theater lighting then you probably want the 880.

Whoo-Hoo! My 360 just changed status and shipped today. I should have it later this week, I'd expect. I noticed that the warranty status changed from "expired" to "in warranty". Checking further it looks like they give you a 3 month warranty, which is nice I guess. What else do they give you? A one month card or is it three months? They will have kept me without a console for about 3 weeks.
My 360 is pissed, according to its blog. :)

Yeah the software is the same for all the remotes, so the only real differences are the screen, the layout and feel of the buttons and contour of the remotes, and I think the overall number of devices being able to control.

Yeah I believe the difference between the 520/550/Xbox is that soem have a few extra buttons. Like the Xbox has buttons that correspond to the 4 buttons on the controller face.

I grabbed one of those 520's from eBay for my bedroom. Have not used it much but def don't like it as much as my 676. The 676 has four actual buttons at the top that you assign Activities to (Play BluRay, Watch TV, Play Xbox, etc). On the 520 you have to use the screen button. Not major but I guess I just prefer the hard buttons.

The nice thing about the Harmony remotes is that if you replace one with any other model you can transfer all your settings and programming right over. Which is great for somebody like me who likes to go in and "tweak" a lot. :)

I've had an 890 for a year now and for Christmas we got the in-laws a 550. It didn't seem too different and certainly more than enough for their needs. For $40-$45 at Best Buy new, you really can't go wrong.

The bad thing is if you have 2 Harmony remotes you need to set up a seperate account for each. As little as I go into the Harmonty software, it is hard enouigh to rememebr one Username/Password, let alone two.

You know you can put your blog on vacation so that it doesn't talk shit about you. That's what I did when I sent mine in

So, my fine RRoD veterans....after having an RRoD scare due to a power surge a few weeks ago, it looks like I've been bitten for real this morning.

So, a question: When they ship the empty coffin, do they require a signature or will the shipping company just drop it off? I'm going to be out of town for a week or so, but I obviously don't want to have to worry about tracking it down when I get back.

I could be wrong. That's just how I thought it still worked. I see that there's option for self shipping, so I'll just do that.

Did you request one? I've never heard of anyone being denied a coffin if they request one.

yep, i asked for a coffin, they said that they stopped shipping them out.

I got a coffin shipped to me in mid-December. No problem at all. Took about five days including the weekend. No signature required for dropping off the box, only for the console's return.

I think you just got a bad CSR. I did the whole process online when I got mine fixed in December, and had no problems getting a coffin.

I highly recommend not trying to talk to CSRs when getting an RRoD fixed.

Re: Official Xbox 360 Thread - The NXE is coming, the NXE is coming...

Over the past half hour my 360 has frozen while playing a game.

I was in the middle of a Halo 3 match when I suddenly heard some static noise and then the image froze and the controller was in a continuous rumble. No way to get out of it but to power OFF the console and detach the batt. pack from the controller.

When I got back everything seemed back to normal but a few minutes laters it happened again. I wasn't in a match but on the main menu Halo 3 screen. I was going thru my Friends List when I suddenly heard the static-y noise again and the image froze up once more. This time while I was scrolling thru my Friends List. Again I powered OFF.

Upon starting the console once again, it doesn't get past the Xbox360 logo. I hear the static noise and it's frozen a 3rd time.

I noticed each time that it froze up there was a kind of checkboard pattern that I could see on the screen. The gameplay remained displayed but it kind of deteriorated over a few minutes (like flickering) and the pattern was more noticeable.

Could this be a problem with the game disc itself and is it a prelude to a RRoD???

Sounds like a video card problem to me. My first box did this a couple of times and eventually RROD'd. I don't know if that was a precursor or completely unrelated.

I believe mine did the same before it got the RROD as well.

UPDATE: RRoD!!!! :(( I was on the dashboard for a few minutes and everything was fine. As it began to load the Halo 3 disc, it didn't get past the Bungie logo screen. I powered OFF and ON again . . . RRoD!!! Off and On again only confirmed it.

just curious.. for the people that have had a RROD outside of warranty, and paid to get it fixed.. whats the standard cost to repair?
