Saw this over on slickdeals:

Blockbuster.com has Stranglehold Game for XBox 360 for $10 - $3 (with code HOLIDAYSURPRISE) = $7 with free shipping.

Orange Box is also $12 after coupon

Orange Box is a great deal -- less than Portal in XBLA.

Is there ANYONE alive who still wants Stranglehold but didn't buy it yet? "Hmmm, I don't know... I really want to play Stranglehold, but that $10 price tag at Best Buy is a little too rich for my blood. Maybe a better deal will come along..."

Michael Corvin 12-23-08 10:31 PM

I caved and bought Halo off the marketplace. 600 is a pretty good price (even though I own the disc).

:johnwoo:

I just picked it up. Was picking up an Orange Box for my nephew/niece and decided what the heck. Was never intrigued much by it, but good reviews and a $7 price is hard to resist.

This rumor sounds interesting.

Back-compat titles may see updates to include 500 points worth of achievements...

... why the source sent the rumor to a Nintendo site, I have no clue. So definitely, grain of salt time.

If true...I think this would be AWESOME. I know many here are "above" caring about Achievements and Achievement points, but I'm a huge fan of the concept. I like getting something for my efforts other than hand cramps. :D

I had been thinking of replaying some OG XBOX titles like "Batman Begins" and others and getting some new points for playing would be icing on the cake.

Do you really have that many extra MS points that you had to spend them on a game you aleady have? You could have gotten a few songs for rock band instead.

Michael Corvin 12-24-08 09:02 AM

Before that purchase I had two 4000 pt cards in my account and another 5 or 6 1600 point cards in a drawer at home. Not sure the exact price, but with the deals/prices I got on those points, Halo was probably well under $5. So well worth it for drive noise and convenience of it just being in my games library.

I didn't try it out yet, but I wonder if that game will see and use my save game from the disc version. I don't see why not, but you never know.

aktick 12-24-08 09:26 AM

Why does my 360 make a metal clank sound a couple minutes after starting up? It's just at the dashboard, makes the sound once (almost every time I start it), and that's it. Anything to be concerned about?

Sure sure.

Likely story.

Before we know it Corvin will be hawking Kindles on Craiglist and neglecting his poor 360.

Michael Corvin 12-24-08 09:45 AM

 Me neglect my 360? That'll be the day. Seriously. I'm still floating on the $5 1600 point cards from Target from over the summer. I did just get the 4000 point cards off ebay with the 30% cashback, so not near as cheap but still decent. I had to drop those into the account to make sure they were valid.

Oh, and I didn't want any games for christmas... just points. rotfl I'm addicted. Looks like the only way my 360 will be neglected is if I join a support group.

xmiyux 12-24-08 09:51 AM

I asked for only points instead of games as well. I don't think anyone believed me.

I did the test at work and when it got up to 77,000 / 55,000 I got scared shitless and closed the window.

Aren't you guys and girls a little worried about running the tests at work? I mean if I'm not mistaken, that is at least 77MB down & 55MB uploading all of a sudden. And since the tests run about 20 seconds, those would be averages and a lot more data is being sent back and forth.

I finally was able to make it into a GameStop and pick up the Arcade disc for $5. This is one of the best deals around, $40 worth of XBLA games for $5. And, to make it even better, I only had Uno from the list :).

Same goes for Top Spin. Why buy the sequels when the original is still the cream of the crop?

Top Spin 3 is leagues better than Top Spin. And this is coming from someone who has completed Virtua Tennis, Tennis 2K2, Top Spin, Top Spin 2, Top Spin 3, Sega Superstars Tennis, Virtua Tennis 3, Mario Power Tennis, etc. Once you get used to it, it's the best playing and deepest tennis game of all-time.

Damn Michael Corvin!
I was playing Halo 3 yesterday and such a fun that tried to buy some DLC, it seems I've already bought both DLC maps. Go figure.
So I remembered about his post and bought Halo, for half the price!
Actually I don't have the disc anymore, I never played it in the Xbox 360. Of course I played hundreds (?) of hours of Halo in the original Xbox. A lot of MP, the old way, with everyone in the same room and sharing the screen. :D
If they could only add Live support to this game...

I would like it better if you didn't need the stupid disk to play. Even with a hd install it still reads off the disc the entire time. Apparently it's a 5.9gb install of crappy demos.

That's good to hear. I loved Top Spin, but the 2nd one was so awful that it has me terrified to try out part 3.

Does anyone here have the red wireless controller? Is it identical to the standard one? The only reason I ask is there was a couple of reviews on Amazon that said the d-pad is different or is better than what the standard controller had.

Is this the case?

PixyJunket 12-26-08 10:52 AM

There were rumors that MS had a "fixed" dpad ready for the 360 controllers but obviously it's going to be a silent update (they were supposed to be initially rolled out with green limited edition controllers for some soccer game in Europe). If people are seeing it in the red controller, that's a good sign.

Mr. Cinema 12-26-08 10:54 AM

What's wrong with the current d-pad? I haven't noticed any issues.

I hope the US gets a green controller. I would love one of those.

The D-pad on the current one is awful. It's mushy and imprecise. Try playing Pac Man CE with it and you'll see.
The red ones have the standard D-pads, not the redesign. I won't buy another controller until they come out with the redone Dpad that was on the green Euro controller.

I have a red, black and white controller. I'll have to compare them.

Giantrobo 12-26-08 12:09 PM

I asked about this red controller with the alleged redesign a few weeks ago. Does anyone have pics of the Green Controller with the new dpad?

I hate d pads anyway but I'd like to know more about it.

GatorDeb 12-26-08 12:29 PM

Picked up Eternal Sonata for $12.89 shipped at GoGamer.com :D

It doesn't look any different, it's just redesigned for function
