edit: Reading the reviews on Amazon, they say it's the same exact controller, just in red with black accents. Costs more because of the play&charge included.

Correct. It was initially rumored to have the improved d-pad, but that didn't happen.

The best XBLA games:

Catan
Lumines Live
Pacman: CE
Catan
Geometry Wars 2
Pacman: CE

Michael Corvin 12-09-08 02:52 PM

I think Pac-Man deserves to be listed three times.

Of course the downside is price. I'm sure you can find the original for about $10, while the other one just came out a couple months ago.

The 2nd one is much more user friendly, but either one will keep you plenty busy for hours upon hours. Also, the 2nd one was priced $40 out of the gate, so it may be even a bit cheaper nowadays if you dig around. (Which while more than the first one, at least it's not a $50 stretch or anything.)

Thanks for all the XBLA suggestions. I'll download all those demos. I did try the Castle Crashers demo the other night and enjoyed that for what it was.

Quick question... is everything tied to the harddrive? I think I'm gonna have to exchange my unit but in the meantime I wanted to add some points to my account and download a game or two. Are those tied to the console (is anything tied to the console) or to the HD?

Mok 12-09-08 06:51 PM

There tied to your gamer tag and console not the harddrive.

So I shouldn't download any games, add any points, or start my Xbox Live Gold subscription if I have to exchange my unit?

There's a tool that can allow you to redownload everything if you want - it's a slight PITA - but nothing too horrible.

Is it enough of a pain that I should just wait? And is it like the Playstation Network where you can only download a certain number of times before having to buy again?

DVDChris 12-09-08 07:30 PM

You can use the content management tool once a year. However you can redownload all your content whenever you want I believe.

pinata242 12-09-08 07:35 PM

I'm not exactly sure why you're talking about exchanging your unit as it sounds like you just got it, but as long as you're signed into XBL it won't matter what you bought the game/content on.

Long story short, I bought a 360 last year, bought 4 or 5 games (Uno, Pac-Man: CE, Castlevania, etc). Then I exchanged it a week or so later for one the "new" HDMI units that just came out. As long as my account is signed into XBL, anybody can play anything on my 360. If I'm not signed in, those 4 or 5 games cannot be played because they were purchased by me (not signed in) on a different console.

I could use the DRM transfer tool to fix that, but it's not enough of a problem to justify since you can only do it once per year and there's always a chance my unit will die.

Now, if you aren't going to be online constantly, then sure you've got a lot to think about.

Shagrath 12-09-08 07:36 PM

Maybe whoever makes this thread should stick the information about the DRM tool in the OP?

Then maybe the thread wouldn't be crudded up with stupid questions about the same thing over and over again.

My unit was packed very poorly and when I opened it up the game case was shattered, game discs rolling around, and it sounds like something is loose on the inside of the Xbox itself. Plus the batteries were DOA. While it's working right now, I have my concerns about whether or not the inside of the Xbox looks like my game case.

But thanks for your input. Since it'll only be a few days, I guess, I'll just wait.

Shh... it's a sticky thread not a useful thread.

I don't think that many people read the first post of a thread to find the answers to their questions anyway.

No, plus everyone around here is usually helpful to the new console owners and don't mind answering a thing or two more than once... unless the answer is easily found via google.

I know that it says only once but I personally have used it twice this year

That is what I was eluding to. Was gonna throw a couple f-bombs in there, but figured that wouldn't be PC.

If the OP had any information in it, it might be useful. My opinion is that OP's should essentially contain a FAQ on the topic where applicable.

Not that big of a deal, but depends on how much shit you have bought and need to transfer licenses to. In my case, my online queue filled up but wasn't that bad.

Chris

If someone wants to be critical about something and wants some specific items, then they can do it. As I've said many times, I do this on a volunteer basis in my spare time
