Also, I plan out a section now with just holes so that it looks uniform even with the jutting edges and stuff. I don't know if I'm being too anal about it, but I like the way it looks so I'll keep doing it.

Ok thats somewhat how I was going to approach it.
I dont know if you have the official players guide or not but it says to map out a 16x16 grid like you do and have atleast 12-15 trees and 12-15 flowers mixed in the grid somehow. But it doesnt tell you how to space them properly or that if you dont space them properly they will die.

I do not have the player's guide. I just use Faq's and what is visually appealing to me. After I space out the trees all over my town, I will then focus on the flowers. Right now I have them surrounding houses in order to try to breed rare flowers. So far, I have ZERO hybrids. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am matching red and red, white and white, where appropriate, but it's just spawning the same kind.
I figure if I stick to my strategy I will have the right amount of trees somehow.

Well I leave a space between the flowers I don't want to breed. I just have them there in case I want to breed them later. All the ones I want to breed are touching.

Anyone found snowballs? I figured they would spawn close to each other and not on opposite sides of town. Rolling them over the river and thru the woods is difficult. I lost 2 one in the river and one over a cliff. The animation is great. In the river it melts away, and over the cliff it shattered.
Yeah that just happened to me. You only need two to make a snowman. I made one and it told me"close but no cigar" lol
I am getting the $4000 bell bag from my money rocks finally! I planted a tree 2 spaces beehind each rock so when I hit the rock, my person backs up against the tree, making it easier to hit the rock until all of the money comes out. It also looks like you can't grow money trees this time. I tried planting a bag and it just showed upas a digging spot. :-(
Edit - Nevermind LOL. I forgot you need the GOLDEN shovel to get the bell tree!

Only 2? Damn I thought you needed 3. You need the golden shovel, and your tree is not guaranteed to grow bells.

I wasted 32,000 bells by trying to plant bell trees. I thought if you had the golden shovel, you could plant bell tree but that must not be the case. Does anyone know how to get a golden axe?

You have to donate enough money (500K bells) to get a fountain in your town. Once you have the fountain, you would need to toss an axe into the fountain and if you're lucky, you'll get a silver or golden axe back in return.

Anyone going to have their town open tomorrow evening (~8/9p Central)? Just starting and I need some foreign fruit (have apples/peaches).
I've made 2 snowmen so far, got a snowman from the first one, and will have to see what furniture I get tomorrow from the second one. I also seen a balloon present today, but have no sling shot yet.

How long does it take for bellbags to show on the trees? Planted several trees with the golden shovel days ago and nothing has come out of them yet.
Did I miss something? Do you have to plant a specific bell bag amount? I did 100 bell bags per tree.

You're not guaranteed to have them produce bell bags. If they don't have bells when they should have fruit, you lost your bells. It's not worth the money to plant them considering how poor your chances are of getting back your cash.

I think you can only have one money tree in your town. In the old game, I would plant a 10K bell bag I think.

Someone needs to come to my town and chop down a tree. You will get a charm. I will tell you which one to chop.

I was going to ask if this game would be a good Christmas present for my daughter that likes MySims and Viva Pinata (in the Xbox 360), after reading the last couple of pages I guess the answer is Yes!
