Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
OK, so I'm having a huge problem with MLB 08. Basically when I get to the press start screen, I hit start, and the game takes 10+ minutes to advance to the menus. I have no idea what is up. Once I'm loaded, everything loads fine. I tried deleting the game file and re-installing to no avail. Other games load fine. Any ideas?

Haven't seen that before.
By the way I'll be adding a few of you DVDTalkers to my friends list. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
That's a known problem, the game is trying to talk to the online servers.

Has there been any news regarding the Playstation Network cards coming to Canada? I would love to download stuff off of PSN but I don't currently have a credit card.
Also, add me on PSN if you haven't: Wick98. |

Yes it is.
I have a Salamander rack with sides and a door that fits into a nook next to a fireplace so it has walls on the left, back and right sides with maybe 2" clearance on each. About a year ago I pulled the rack out and painstaikingly zip tied up all cables for the sources that route to my receiver and all power cords that go to my Rotel line conditioner on the lowest rack. So basically I have one power cord from my rack to the wall, everything else is nicely contained within the rack. At the time I did this I had a Panny upconverting DVD player using HDMI. When I got the PS3 I simply yanked the DVD player out and used that HDMI for my PS3. It would be a pain to get an ethernet cable through all that. And honestly why should't a PS3 located 3' from a router work wirelessly just as well as wired? Sure wired may be a solution, but that doesn't make crappy wifi less of a problem. Well, you can take the time out of one day to wire it and never have to worry about it, or continue to complain about the slow speed, because it's never going to improve. I know what I would choose, but I'm just proactive about that kind of stuff. I would rather fix the problem than complain about it. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Just to add my input, across my family we have two PS3s. Both of them are wired into our internet connection. Sometimes the downloads are really fast. Sometimes they are really slow.
I think it really depends on what you're downloading. The other night when I downloaded the Crash Commando preview video which is 55mb it took maybe 1 or two minutes. When I downloaded the update for Bishock, which I think is 300mb, it took just under ten minutes (so a little bit slower than the previous download). However, a week or so ago when I downloaded the Home update at 77mb it took 45 minutes. I personally don't think it has anything to do with being wired or unwired. Again, as someone mentioned above, the wireless speeds in someone's home are faster than the standard range of internet speeds. My preference would be to go wireless so as to have one less wire behind my television, but the big problem when I was wireless was always getting signed out of the PSN. |
Sending a PS3 to Sony?
I am having a big problem with my PS3, I have one of the original 60gb Playstation 3's that I have had a little over a year, and a couple of days ago i was having a very strange problem. I would turn on the system, I put in any dvd/bluray/or video game and it plays okay. I ejected it, would then put in another disc and it would eject it automatically, and a message pops up on screen saying start operation error. I already contacted Sony about servicing it, and found out it will cost $149 since its past warranty. I am just wondering if anyone out there has had problems and had to send in the system. Is this the only option to fix it? Just wondering if anyone has experience with sending in a PS3 to Sony, and any thoughts or opinions?

This thread is starting to sound like the Xbox thread when the first RROD started trickling in. Not a good sign.
I have a 60 and experienced my first freeze up last weekend. |

Mine just stopped playing BR movies. Still playes BR games just fine. I'm fighting with Sony that it can't be the PS3 if it playes BR games just fine.

yah, I was skeptical about the reports until mine froze and died last week. Mine lasted about 20 months.
Is there any consensus what's causing it? I've never had any problems with my Xbox 360, bought one in 2005, upgraded to Elite in December 2007. Zero issues. But it has been in an open space all the time. Same with my PS3. It's in an open space. Zero issues. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
This news of everyone's PS3 failing after a year or two is disturbing, especially since I went on a PS3 game buying binge over the last month ...

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Genius move by Sony to embed their own trojan horse into the system to cause random errors after the warranty period is over. You send it in for $150 for them to flip the switch or just buy a new one.

Hmm, saw a copy of Stranglehold on clearance yesterday for 10 bucks. The game has mediocre reviews, but I'm wondering if it's worth it for that price?

95% of games are worth at least $10. It takes something truly wretched like Two Worlds to say that it's not worth a dime. Stranglehold isn't great, but for 10 bucks? Sure, it's fun for that.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Yeah, at $10 for a current-gen game is practically free and the better question would be if it's worth the time it takes to play.
|
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Stranglehold is awesome. Repetitive, but very fun.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
I've only had freezes on two games: Assassin's Creed and Tomb Raider UNDERWORLD. Both those games are known to be glitchy so I'm not worried yet.
