Quantum of Solace (360/PS3)
IGN Preview
It's more of a puff piece than an actual review. Happy that it uses the Call of Duty engine -- though this doesn't guarantee it will be as good as those games. I know games based on movies have horrible track records, but every time a new Bond game comes out I cross my fingers. At least the guy in the preview was honest and stated it wasn't as good as GoldenEye.
Comes out November 4th.

Day 1 no brainer purchase for me. I have loved the majority of Bond games and the COD 4 engine. Aside from Goldeneye...TWINE, NF, EON, and FRWL were are very underrated and enjoyable games.

It looks really good, espcially with the COD4 engine. I will wait for reviews though. May be something I wait to drop to $40 depending on the online and how many people have it I'm friends with.

Normally this would be a first day purchase considering I enjoyed pretty much every Bond game since Agent Under Fire (aside from Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, damn that game was shit), but with so many other games coming out, I will probably wait till a dry spot next year sometime to pick it up for cheap.

I'm actually not much into Bond movies, but one of the last Bond games (had it for PS2, forget the name) I thought was really enjoyable, so I'll also probably be getting this at some point, but closer to Xmas time when I've got more free time (and no Saint's Row 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, GH:WT, RB2, etc. to play).

I just preordered from Gamestop...if you preorder with them, you get a download code for some bonus multiplayer maps e-mailed to you. Though they don't say when it's going to be e-mailed (I read a rumor about January 2009), I'm sure it'll be worth it once they're sent out.

Quantum of Solace isn?t the game that it should have been. It?s not bad by any means, but what brings it out of the pits of despair is the foundation of a much better game that we all know and love. The action is less compelling and the world that?s built around Bond doesn?t do much to enhance the fun factor. All of the additions do nothing to push the game ahead of other first-person shooters and instead take you out of the world of being Bond.
IGN Ratings for Quantum of Solace (PS3)
Rating Description
out of 10 click here for ratings guide
7.5 Presentation
The menu design feels like it?s ripped from the DVD. The world feels like Bond and it helps to have Daniel Craig staring at you every six seconds.
7.5 Graphics
Some environments look better than others but they do stay varied. Explosions are lacking and animation repeats happen all too often.
8.5 Sound
Cool voice work by Daniel Craig and the same Bond theme help legitimize the experience. You?ll have that damn theme in your head for months, though.
7.0 Gameplay
The gun play is decent but forgettable and the additions that have been made to COD4?s formula don?t exactly pan out the way Treyarch was hoping.
6.0 Lasting Appeal
You?ll come for the single-player and four and a half hours later you?ll be playing multiplayer. That?ll last for a few days and then this one will likely be kicked to the curb.
7.0
Decent OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average
Game can be finished in 4-5 hours! Standard multiplayer. Sounds like a rental at best. Too bad, indeed.

Other reviews have been much more positive, but...I am just going to rent. I was really looking forward to this but if the replay of levels or multiplayer is good, I will get it later.

Scored this last night for the PS3 for a scant $20. I haven't had time to really sit down an play it, but from the level I ran through last night it's definately one of the higher-ranking Bond games. Has that retro GOLDENEYE feel...but with Daniel Craig and better graphics!!!

DVD Talk Legend
I got Quantum of Solace today (what can I say...I am a sucker for a gay 007 T-shirt and a $10 off a JB BD coupon) and I have to say this it is much better than I was expecting.
The single player so far has been fun and fast paced with a lot of cinematic moments and the multiplayer really surprised me. It uses the COD4 controls exactly and the lobby, game types, etc and just like COD4. The graphics are a bit bland in multiplayer but it was like playing a new but not as pretty COD4 (with finally some new maps
).
I went in with low expectations but have been pleased so far. The MP might keep me around if enough people play it and the upgrade system (you get points after each round to upgrade to new weapons or get upgrades on your current ones) may keep me interested.
Send me a friend request if you want to play. I got the 360 version.
