Quantum of Solace (360/PS3)
IGN Preview
It's more of a puff piece than an actual review. Happy that it uses the Call of Duty engine -- though this doesn't guarantee it will be as good as those games. I know games based on movies have horrible track records, but every time a new Bond game comes out I cross my fingers. At least the guy in the preview was honest and stated it wasn't as good as GoldenEye. Comes out November 4th. |
Day 1 no brainer purchase for me. I have loved the majority of Bond games and the COD 4 engine. Aside from Goldeneye...TWINE, NF, EON, and FRWL were are very underrated and enjoyable games.
It looks really good, espcially with the COD4 engine. I will wait for reviews though. May be something I wait to drop to $40 depending on the online and how many people have it I'm friends with.
Does anybody know what's in the collector's edition for PS3? Debating whether or not it's worth the 10 extra bucks.
Normally this would be a first day purchase considering I enjoyed pretty much every Bond game since Agent Under Fire (aside from Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, damn that game was shit), but with so many other games coming out, I will probably wait till a dry spot next year sometime to pick it up for cheap.
The screens look awesome on this - pretty much day 1 for me.
I'm actually not much into Bond movies, but one of the last Bond games (had it for PS2, forget the name) I thought was really enjoyable, so I'll also probably be getting this at some point, but closer to Xmas time when I've got more free time (and no Saint's Row 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, GH:WT, RB2, etc. to play).
I downloaded the trailer off of LIVE and this actually looks really really good. I see some fun potential here.
im 50/50 on this, def keepin my eye on it tho. ill wait for reviews
I just preordered from Gamestop...if you preorder with them, you get a download code for some bonus multiplayer maps e-mailed to you. Though they don't say when it's going to be e-mailed (I read a rumor about January 2009), I'm sure it'll be worth it once they're sent out.

IGN review is up.
Closing Comments Quantum of Solace isn?t the game that it should have been. It?s not bad by any means, but what brings it out of the pits of despair is the foundation of a much better game that we all know and love. The action is less compelling and the world that?s built around Bond doesn?t do much to enhance the fun factor. All of the additions do nothing to push the game ahead of other first-person shooters and instead take you out of the world of being Bond. IGN Ratings for Quantum of Solace (PS3) Rating Description out of 10 click here for ratings guide 7.5 Presentation The menu design feels like it?s ripped from the DVD. The world feels like Bond and it helps to have Daniel Craig staring at you every six seconds. 7.5 Graphics Some environments look better than others but they do stay varied. Explosions are lacking and animation repeats happen all too often. 8.5 Sound Cool voice work by Daniel Craig and the same Bond theme help legitimize the experience. You?ll have that damn theme in your head for months, though. 7.0 Gameplay The gun play is decent but forgettable and the additions that have been made to COD4?s formula don?t exactly pan out the way Treyarch was hoping. 6.0 Lasting Appeal You?ll come for the single-player and four and a half hours later you?ll be playing multiplayer. That?ll last for a few days and then this one will likely be kicked to the curb. 7.0 Decent OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average Game can be finished in 4-5 hours! Standard multiplayer. Sounds like a rental at best. Too bad, indeed. |
Other reviews have been much more positive, but...I am just going to rent. I was really looking forward to this but if the replay of levels or multiplayer is good, I will get it later.
Yeah based on the reviews I'm going to hold off. I'm sure I'll buy it eventually - maybe when it's $40.
Looks like if you buy it from Target you get a $12 movie ticket to see the actual QoS movie.
Best Buy has a free T-shirt with purchase of it.
Did anyone find out what makes the LE special? |

Do they want anyone to actually pay to see this movie? |

If it was me, I'd just go 3 times with friends :)
The game is pretty solid. They even recreated The Facility stage from GoldenEye 007.
Really? That was my favorite level to play, both in single player and multi player.
= J |
It's not exact, but I'd say it's about 90% accurate. They did take a few liberties, though.
Scored this last night for the PS3 for a scant $20. I haven't had time to really sit down an play it, but from the level I ran through last night it's definately one of the higher-ranking Bond games. Has that retro GOLDENEYE feel...but with Daniel Craig and better graphics!!!
I got Quantum of Solace today (what can I say...I am a sucker for a gay 007 T-shirt and a $10 off a JB BD coupon) and I have to say this it is much better than I was expecting.
The single player so far has been fun and fast paced with a lot of cinematic moments and the multiplayer really surprised me. It uses the COD4 controls exactly and the lobby, game types, etc and just like COD4. The graphics are a bit bland in multiplayer but it was like playing a new but not as pretty COD4 (with finally some new maps :)). I went in with low expectations but have been pleased so far. The MP might keep me around if enough people play it and the upgrade system (you get points after each round to upgrade to new weapons or get upgrades on your current ones) may keep me interested. Send me a friend request if you want to play. I got the 360 version. |
Son of a bitch. I was really looking forward to this game, but the Wii version apparently blows. Maybe it's time to get a 360...
I bought it.
I think my expectations were so low that I was kind of shocked by the game. I had a blast with it. The most disturbing part of the game is that it could have been epic if they would have just concentrated on Royale and stretched the length out. Some of the levels were a blast and have the "cover" system was a ton of fun. My biggest complaint is the graphics drop on multiplayer. In my opinion, it takes a huge hit. I ended up craigslisting it last night as I have GOW 2, LBP, R2, and COD 5 on tap...but I would totally get QoS again if it hits $20 or so to run through it on the hardest level. |
I was playing this last night and really enjoyed it. The cover system is pretty good and I like the melee fighting. I've been playing on 007 mode because I heard it wasn't that hard and I heard right. I'm about halfway through with one night's worth of playing.
I doubt this game would make my top ten most wanted right now. Once it hits $15 it might be worth a look.

I have a good feeling this game will drop like a rock once QOS is out of theatres. I'll just wait for a good sale, but I look forward to playing it. |
I got sick of this game really fast. The first level is a blast, the rest gets tired really fast.
I'm glad that I only rented this game. I anticipated its release, but it was somewhat disappointing. I had quite a bit of fun with it but it was short and doesn't really have much replayability except for the mediocre multiplayer. Overall, the single player experience was fun, but nothing amazing.

I liked a lot of the later levels. I didn't think there was anything special about the first one. The train level reminded me of Goldeneye.

I finished it and had fun with it but it seems like it should have been made 10 or 15 years ago. Ringing cell phones that give you the exact amount of info you need due to a "memo" to the thugs? Same 3 lines said by the thugs every time? Swat team descends on you, you take them out, and then suddenly everything returns back to normal? Predictable A.I. standing still in the same places until you take them out using "stealth?"
All of these things have been done a million times and done better. But it is a quick time waster that obviously wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. The MP was okay but if I want to play a game with the same controls as COD and feels like COD...I'll stick with COD. But at least the action scenes in the video game were better than the actual movie. |
Does anyone have the $70 version of this? If so, what are some of the extra features?
I gave up on getting the three multiplayer achievements I planned on getting (the one for five territory wins, one bomb defused as Bond and an escape as Bond,) because the game kept glitching on me whenever I'd try to get either of the latter two. I'd have to wait years to become Bond (usually a few games - not rounds) and then I'd get server errors. Screw it.
I guess that depends on when you play. I had trouble connecting last night but had no trouble on Saturday night. The five territory wins is pretty easy. I haven't tried for the bomb defusal or escape as Bond. Got the melee the guy with the golden gun achievement. That was cool.
I also beat the game on 007 mode. Which isn't much of an achievement but it's the first time I've ever beaten a game on the hardest difficulty. |

Re: Quantum of Solace (360/PS3)
I finally got around to playing this, and so far I enjoy it. I am about 2/3 of the way through playing at the normal level. There was one glitch that I ran into on the construction site where it looked like I was playing on my back. I was looking up at everything, and wasn't sure if I was supposed to be or not. After failing at it a number of times, it corrected itself.
I haven't taken the time to read the manual (I got the CE for half price at TRU here in Canada), but what are the cell phones for? I do pick them up when I see them, but I don't really got out of my way for them. Is the information in them helpful? |
