The guys on ListenUp said it took about 9 hours to get through the game, IIRC and said they still hadn't unlocked everything.

That sounds promising.

You can't even price match Wal-Mart.com at Wal-Mart.

Well as usual Amazon can't get a game out on time.

I just picked it up at Fry's this morning for 42.99. Now do I play this tonight or watch game 2 of Hawks-Wings? Decisions...

Re: King Hippo is back! (i.e. New Punch-Out game for the Wii)

Got mine at Best Buy around noon. Had to ask for it, apparently they got it late so a nice dude grabbed one off the pallet for me.

Really fun so far, I've only just used the classic control so far, looking forward to trying out the nunchuk.

Tiger dude beat the piss out of me....that's as far as I've gotten so far.

Awesome game.

Only complaints, as mentioned, are lack any online (stats, etc..) and there is no excuse not to have all the PO and SPO characters in it.

Regardless, awesome game...no brainer at $40.

But a warning, just in case, if you didn't like PO or SPO, you won't like this.

And on a side note, it is scary to look over and see 3 Wii games in my collection with 2 on the way this week.

It wasn't really prominent at my Fry's. It was on an end cap where they keep some of the Wii Fit accessories. Didn't see if it was in the actual Wii game aisle. They seemed much more interested in the full end cap of EA Fitness stuff.

Was Punch Out even in the Best Buy ad? I thought this would be a pretty high profile release given the commercials and the game long history with Nintendo.

my best buy still had quite a few. Maybe a result of not advertising?

I bought online and used store pick-up.

I expect this game will be great, but is it as great as it could be?

There is no excuse here Nintendo. Some sort of online play should have been part of the game, even if its score or stats only or score/stats matched challenges and not real-time online play. No excuse.

There is also no excuse for Nintendo to not take advantage of every single peripheral they make. The Wii-board is nice, but this game should also be taking advantage of the Wii-speak with online play, as well as some sort of Punch-Out! Channel to add functionality or DLC. There is potentially 32GB of space now to play with on the Wii so again no excuses.

If Nintendo is not going to show off what these add-on parts can do on the Wii especially with these core games, then how do they ever expect 3rd parties to get on board with them?

Neither one of the WalMarts in my area even got it in today, wow.

I got my preorder from GameStop so as soon as I get home from work I'll be playing this finally.

Re: King Hippo is back! (i.e. New Punch-Out game for the Wii)

Just played through the minor circuit - while a nice throwback to the old punch out, there is something missing from it It just feels like a slight upgrade and not a whole new game. Mind you, I was using the classic control scheme and not the motion control.

The biggest disappointment so far is the lack of the glove trying to punch through the start screen twice and succeeding on the third attempt

A couple of "tips":

Spoiler:
-While your opponent is down and being counted out, press the 1+2 buttons over and over again to regain health.

-While between rounds press the - button to regain full health. Can only be done once per fight.

I just beat Aran Ryan, that sure was something.

Spoiler:
The second tip is similar to holding the select button between rounds in the NES game. It's good to hear that they kept that feature.

Screw You Flamenco! I knocked off his toupee and he got all pissy at me, and I could only get one punch in at a time At least that only lasted the current round and I still beat his ass.

I just beat Super Macho Man (there's a trick to being able to beat him fairly easily). I just tried
Spoiler:
Mr. Sandman
once before I turned it off for the night and holy crap! The leap of difficulty from everyone else to him is insane, wow!

Another tip:

Spoiler:
When you get knocked down and get the obvious animation where it's over for good, press the 1+2 buttons over and over to regain control to keep from getting knocked out to get one more try. Again, you can only do this once in a fight.

Thank you! i was wondering if this was in the game. i was

Spoiler:
using the motion controls, so the 1 and 2 buttons weren't easily accessible - i was hitting A and B trying to get this to work.

anyway, i played up to great tiger last night using the motion controls (without the balance board), and i LOVED it. the only complaint i have is that for a jab/high punch, you have to press up on the nunchuk stick (or change your controls so that you hit Z or B) in addition to punching.

I found myself naturally just punching high, and forgetting to hit the stick. So i was still just doing belly shots. I'm still not completely used to it, but i'll get there.

I assume this is what caused the reviews that stated they should have waited to use the Wii Motion plus.

but other than that small complaint, like i said, i love it.
