Deals are usually posted here. Just keep an eye out, they are very infrequent. Maybe twice a year, that's why you hear of people stocking up.

pinata242 10-15-08 08:54 AM

When there are deals, they'll be posted in the main Xbox thread and often the XBLA thread. I try to post them in the RB thread (and I guess the GH thread now).

Usually they're in speedy's ads a week or so in advance or there will be special web promotions (giveaways, contests, amazon, whatever) that will be announced in the VG forum somewhere.

I caved and bought 3 Crue songs. Dr. Feelgood, Without You, and Don't Go Away Mad. Dr. Feelgood destroyed me on Expert guitar. Failed out during the solo towards the end. 71% I think. Dropped it down to hard and they were all fun.

It got me at 95%.

Also picked up Kickstart, Don't Go Away Mad, and S.O.S., but didn't try them yet.

Rabbit, deals dont pop up often, but when they do, there usually like $5 off the $20 card, or something... Right now amazon has the $20 card for $17.99 shipped

Amazon had the $50 cards for $40 a few weeks ago, which is an okay deal. Aren't most of the really good deals on points cards usually unintended price or coupon mistakes?

The most amazing deal was a regular Target sale ($14.99) coupled with a $10 off X360 title coupon that didn't actually apply, but you could get the cashiers to override. $5 + tax for $20 worth of points was awesome. I got 11 1600 point cards myself and I'm already down to about 7000 :(

So, yes, you're not going to see much better than 25% off, but even that is better than retail.

Michael Corvin 10-15-08 09:25 AM

The Target gaffe is indeed the best(I nabbed 7 myself), but the best legit deal was Circuit City's B1G1 deal last summer.

 I forgot about that one. That was right when I got my 360 and I think my first 9600 points lasted me all the way until the Target deal.

lordwow 10-15-08 09:28 AM

Ya the CC B1G1 was the best legit one I got in on. Target has had the 1600 at $14.99 which isn't too bad. Other than that, I've done a lot of the stupid contests that give them out like the design a car thing.

Spiderbite 10-15-08 09:47 AM

So rabbit...now that you five starred Visions...would you say that is the hardest song you have had to do between all the various RB/GH games or is there a different one? Just curious.

And I agree with REL77...I just don't want to even attempt to practice this song. It's one thing to have to suffer thru it during a Medium try once but to have to endure the lead singer's growling everytime you practice it on Hard or Expert...Yuck!

They really made the song too damn hard in my opinion. But then again...I am not an Expert player but just a halfway decent Hard one. But it still seems to difficult on Hard. Guess we are stuck with it and no chance for an update to make it easier...Hint, hint? :)

GuessWho 10-15-08 09:48 AM

I've been buying my points online recently since retail has 10.25% sales tax here. I really don't feel like paying $22+ for a $20 card.

lordwow 10-15-08 09:56 AM

Here in MA at least, we get taxed for online points purchases, so I usually just do Amazon.

Wonder if it works on drums too?

Kijdhefgi 10-15-08 11:03 AM

I've been on a hefty vocals spree because I'm gonna pick up Dead Space tonight and play it in the dark with my TV's volume crazy high and scare myself so bad that I'll flee my house, running in fear, and dogs smell fear, so I'll also be running from dogs. My worst three songs to sing are Alex Chilton, A Jagged Gorgeous Winter, and Nine in the Afternoon, which all happen to be tier 2. What the hell? TIER 2! They're all 96% or higher so I think I'm missing a ton of phrases but getting somewhat close on them. Is anyone else having such trouble with these?

xmiyux 10-15-08 11:25 AM

I'm not terribly good at it but i really like Jagged Gorgeous Winter. I would love to find some more songs by that band and see if i like the band in general or just that song in particular.

There's this awesome thing called the internet which allows you to do just that! They have stuff on itunes, and likely a myspace page to check songs out at too ;)

xmiyux 10-15-08 11:36 AM

There is an internet outside of DVDTalk? All this time i thought this was all there was. Like Compuserv.

edit: I had checked Amazon and i didn't see any albums listed by them. I hadn't looked at iTunes yet because i can't bring myself to buy DRMd mp3s.

I never played GH1, but between RB1/2 and GH2/GH3, off the top of my head, I'd rank them like this

Edit: I forgot about Jordan!

1) The Devil Went Down to Georgia
2) Through the Fire and Flames
3) Jordan
4) Visions
5) Battery
6) Raining Blood

If the timing windows were on a level playing field, I'd think Raining Blood would leapfrog Visions and Battery.

The virtuoso track pack were more fun than hard, and the dragon force track packs would all fall somewhere in the top 10. Snow ((Hey Oh)) is definitely top 10.

Thanks for the feedback on where to get points - I'll go the Amazon route. I'll miss the instant gratification, though. :)

Since I only really played GH II and III on hard before moving up to expert, I could never beat Raining Blood on Hard, but could always beat Jordan on Hard. I never played either on Xpert, so I dont know how much harder each of them got at that diffaculty, but assume I probably still to this day couldnt beat either of them expert.

Raining Blood can still kiss my ass.

That said.. Bob Dylan can kiss my ass, too.

Singing Tangled Up In Blue is one of my absolute favorite things to do in RB2. I really hope they add some more Dylan via DLC.

Is it a nightmare on guitar or drums or something?

It's a fucked up but playable non-rhythm on drums, not sure about guitar.

Agreed with the vocal sentiments! TuiB is amazing to sing. The guitar and drums are pretty fun as well. A lot of people think it's boring but at least it's not a same-chordfest or the Let There Be Rock Drums Of The Same Thing For Seven Minutes beat.

FULL... FULL... COMBO... COMBO...
FULL... FULL... COMBO... COMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah, there are about 2-3 songs I absolutely hate playing on Drums, and Tangled Up is one of those. Go Your Own Way and Spirit In The Sky suck ass as well.

It's fun to play because you really have to pay attention to the quick chord changes - it's long but not repetitive to the point of boredom.

I love TUiB on guitar and vocals. Haven't tried drums yet. I would love it if they announced Blood On The Tracks as a DLC album. One of the greatest albums ever recorded.

Michael Corvin 10-15-08 01:57 PM

I did the impossible vocal challenge last night. TUiB was pretty fun to sing.

So on one hand you've got an extremely ambitious DLC offering from EA - a huge win for Wii fans - and on the other you've got Wii's technical limitations (at least for the time being), which ensure that you'll be cleaning your fridge out constantly if you want to keep updating your list of available DLC.

This is absolute horseshit. I pray for you, Kelkee, that Nintendo does address this storage concern and actively expand "internal storage" via external means.

So much for having 2gb of songs on an SD card to use. You're down to a maximum of 512MB (~30mb/song) less whatever the Wii's OS and other channels and game saves/data take up.

It's not too late to jump, man, seriously. Think of the children!

I am in complete agreement. Blood on the Tracks defines Dylan for me. There isn't a bad song on the album - even Buckets of Rain is decent.

How awesome would it be to play Jack of Hearts or If You See Her Say Hello. Say Hello almost reduces me to tears it is so emotional. And Jack of Hearts would be fun just to show all those who complain about the length of Tangled Up in Blue what a long song really is.

Dont forget to subtract whatever you get for selling your Wii, which should still net you around $250 since there still hard to get, so your not looking to be out that much for a better console :)

Yeah, I almost included that, but figured he'd keep the Wii for the kids and the GH games he already has, even though upgrading to the 360 versions would be better anyway.

bee_01 10-15-08 03:40 PM

Moving files from SD to the Wii's internal memory takes foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....don't think I'd want to wait 3 minutes before playing a song that was stored on SD.

Kelkee 10-15-08 05:20 PM

Still have to hold off a bit on the 360. Hopefully after Christmas will be in a better situation.

Will be a pain if they cant get the songs to play off the SD, and use the internal memory as a cache like WT is supposed to do.

There have been some mixed messages in gaming press, but I’m happy to confirm that the Wii Guitar Hero 3 guitar will be compatible with Rock Band 2 for the Wii. We wanted to clarify for all the Wii Rockers that have expressed confusion regarding this compatibility, and reassure that Harmonix will continue to advocate wide-ranging compatibility for instruments across music platforms.
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91443

wOOt! If the drums are also compatible all I will need to buy is the disc. Still need clarification that the WT drums will work.

Kelkee 10-15-08 09:55 PM

Anyone getting this?

FACT:
Every single song available for Rock Band 2 (DLC included) has been programmed ...

Quote from IGN review:
"PDP collaborated with Harmonix to program in-game cues into Rock Band and Rock Band 2. Beyond the obvious benefits of utilizing programmed cues rather than shoddy sound sensors, the Rock Band Stage Kit is not only able to react to tracks in perfect time, it is also capable of replicating lighting colors of the in-game venues. While not exactly quiet or subtle, the fog machine fills any given room with sizable clouds during slower sequences of music. For impressive flashes of texturized light, the strobe lamp is located just below the spout of the fog machine."
