On another note, we went for Bladder of Steel yesterday again. 3 player expert band (guitar/bass/vocals). Unfortunately, we didn't make it. I knew I had one problem song (on vocals) in American Woman. I asked our bassist to save overdrive, as the part at 90% (the "Bye-bye" part where the singer drops octaves) gives me hellish problems. He said he'd save through the whole song, just in case. Well, I saw he had a full bar very early on, and told him he could use that, but save the next batch. Well, I guess he thought it meant I was through my trouble spot, and we ended up failing that song. :( Looks like I'll have to go it alone one day for BoS.

On the bright side, we ended the set with some pretty decent numbers:

54 gold stars
6 4-stars :(
The rest were just plain ole 5-stars.

My voice started to give out around 70 songs or so, so we all switched around. Kij went to vocals, the bassist took over guitar, and I jumped on bass. I'm assuming we probably would've failed one of the later songs if I was still on vocals, as I was really straining near the end of my run. Seeing as I'm a lefty and they were both righties, there would've been no way to switch without pausing the game and thus disabling the achievement. Don't know when I'll feel like going through again (or on what instrument), but my wife's leaving for a week early next month, so maybe then.

Albums just work for some people, and not for others. That's why they choose to split them into singles as well. It's the best of both worlds. I'm sure as time goes on, we'll be getting the other "hits" from most of the artists that have already been featured, as well as tons of new bands showing up as well.

Yes, I am still saying it. I'll admit that there are a few albums in the world that I enjoy almost all of the songs, but I'd rather play the hits in Rock Band. There are too many songs and too many artists out there for me to spend time and money on "B-side" tracks and stuff that only appeals to hardcore fans of the band.

shumway 10-13-08 03:19 PM

Add another WTH!?!?! on Visions for me. Made it to all of 23% on Hard with Hyperspeed on. It doesn't help that the guitar playing sounds like a bunch of damn popcorn to me. It's hard to hear the notes to play them in rhythm, etc.

Attempted the Endless Setlist 2/Bladder of Steel on Expert Guitar for the first time today. I had the day off and the wife didn't, so it was now or maybe never. Thankfully I managed to never pause accidently or fail anything.

I started about 9AM and finished around 3:15PM. I was writing down my scores/stars/% after every song for the purpose of entering the data into my iPhone app later on. That helped the time pass a little quicker.

I gold starred the first 20 or so songs until Welcome to the Nighbohood came up. The next 20 or so songs were a mix of five and gold stars. That's when I started to get bored and wishing it would hurry up and finish. That was not helped by the fact that I was needing to urinate really badly about halfway through the set. It definitely took a "Bladder of Steel" to hold it until Let There be Rock came on. I made a mad dash for the bathroom during the second break in the song and made it back without missing a note.

The songs that weren't at least five starred were Shackler's Revenge, Chop Suey, Master Exploder & eight of the last ten songs (Souls of Black & Bodhisattva were 5 stars). Visions was my only three star.

It's really a pain having the hardest songs come at the end due to the fact that both my arms and hands were cramping and not wanting to move all that well for about the last 20 songs.

Overall I think I improved my score on about a dozen or so songs. Everything else was pretty mediocre. I'm just relieved I got it over and done with first try. I don't think I would've had it in me to ever try again.

pinata242 10-13-08 03:23 PM

Congratulations, man. I can't imagine trying that on expert, or even hard. http://members.cox.net/pinata242/Salute.gif, Visions.

I think that's another way of saying the same thing, yes.

Kelkee 10-13-08 03:35 PM

So just what do you get for playing 6 hours straight?

And if you were really hardcore you'd a had a bottle or a bucket to go in. :D Heck why not just get a catheter inserted?

25 glorious e-peen points and a little badge that no one else can see unless they've also done it. Jealous? Yeah, thought so.

Kijdhefgi 10-13-08 03:38 PM

I'll probably be doing ESL2 on expert vocals this Saturday. I'm sitting at forty gold stars, forty-one 5*'s, and three damn 4*'s (Spoonman, A Jagged Horrible Song, and HELLO THERE {wtf}) so this week I'm going to make sure they'll all be 5'd when I do my run. I have 99% on Tangled Up In Blue, 100% on Master Exploder, and four other final tier gold stars, yet I've got a 4* on tier goddamned zero Hello There? AM I READY TO ROCK? AM I READY OR NOT? I don't even know!

Platinum guitarist with Shagrath yesterday, platinum vocals this weekend, and platinum drums whenever I can struggle through Visions and the end of Peace Sells. If I can pass those on voxdrums I might just do that and leave my 360 on for weeks while I do a few songs per day.

Unless there was some real world swag for that achievement I'd probably not consider doing it at all. But congrats for the expert challenge!

The Bus 10-13-08 04:10 PM

RB2 is bullshit. I had a challenge to add 5th song, and if I passed it, I got quadruple the fans. (Couldn't use overdrive).

I passed it but only got 2 stars on the last song, and lost like 4.5 million fans, about 65% of my fanbase.

Meaning me of course. I still need to do it. :(

xmiyux 10-13-08 05:03 PM

Yeah i will totally have to try this sometime. Does it have to be done on a certain difficulty?

I will probably do vocals so i can swap out with my wife for breaks.

You can do it on any I believe, but there is an achievement for Med, Hard, and Exp. (If you do Expert, you'll get all 3.)

Cheater!!!

You would probably play guitar with hyperspeed on too.... ;)

Spoiler:
Yeah.. that was for you L&O

Ha! I don't play guitar! :p

Hrm, the lure of achievements is great. I worry about passing later songs on higher difficulty levels and i am pretty sure my wife would struggle on hard with several of the songs.

So the game is bullshit because you two-starred Ace of Spades on a 4x fan gamble?

I'm sorry if this is against some DVDTalk handholding forum request where everyone's right and you're all supporting each other, but that's like "I flipped a coin and it was heads THREE TIMES IN A ROW fuck coins!"

"The crowd is out of control. People are chanting. You are on the verge of wetting your pants. If you beat this tricky song with 5 stars and no Overdrive, you'll earn a lot more fans, but if you blow it, you'll LOSE a ton of fans! Are you ready to BURN THIS MOTHER DOWN?"

The new opportunities in BWT are pretty fun but I don't like that all the songs are pre-determined. The video shoots have cool effects and I'm so glad that they're not overused. Quad fans + the staff guy that gives double fans is so good and going to help me stock up people to lose when I fail ESL2 on drums.

There's no "handholding request" here - but being mature gamers, we are allowed to voice frustrations that we have without being shit on by each other. And when the shitting does occur, it's all good natured ribbing amongst lame ass internet friends. Like that princess Miyu.

dvdsteve2000 10-13-08 06:15 PM

Tarantino 10-13-08 06:18 PM

My roommate and I did a five song setlist and were asked if we wanted to add an encore song to the performance, so we said yes.

The fifth song was Kansas...and the encore song was...Kansas.

Pretty lame that it had us play the same song one after another. That's the only time I'd seen that happen.

Damn...I wish DVDTalk had rep enabled. You would get mucho for that one!

devilshalo 10-13-08 07:15 PM

Kind of a large difference in the amount of fans you get between Hard and Expert. 150K to 1M. I wish they would cut the difference when two instruments are split.

I'm just saying.. it's kinda difficult to sing and play guitar at the same time when you don't know the words to the song all that well. :(

So Rock Band has defeated Guitar Hero:WT for me! I was playing 3 GHWT songs and just could not take it anymore. The animations and graphics are so dated, and the huge circles for notes make it too clunky to play. Guess I'll just play through it once with my friend tonight to get some achievements, then go back to the good game :)

When was the last time you played GH3?

Give us some impressions about the vocal sections. Very different from RB?

Also, you just have the game alone (GH4) correct? No drums?

I have not sung or drummed yet...will do that later tonight. And yes, I only have the game, no GHWT drums.

Ah, thats too long away from the GH series. Did you ever like GH3, and how far did you get thru the game if so?

I must have missed this post before. Just open it up, slip out the chip at the base of the neck and move it in front of the bracket holding it in. Here's a crude look at it (green bar = | is the chip):

Original: :::::frets::::neck:::::[|]

DIY Fix: :::::frets::::neck:::::[ ]|

Once you do this you are really going to have to use some force putting the neck back in but once you do the neck will be tighter and you button should work again.

So the vocals worked ok...seemed more sensitive than Rock Band. The only bad thing is that there is no way to tell how well a a particular phrase is going for you. Aside from the Red/Green needle meter, there is nothing on the screen. It's kind of hard to explain I guess....it needs that circle that fills up like in RB so you can make sure you are doing well to keep your multiplier.
