Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Oh, I guess I had missed any info on Star Trek D-A-C. If Battlestar Galactica and Wing Commander both had their franchises sullied by an XBLA 2-D space shooter, I wonder if there's any reason to expect anything different with Star Trek?

Being that WC is my favorite franchise of all time and I played BSG to death and will never again, I have little reason to expect much from ST ;)

Nice, I don't even need to download the demos this week.

I want a decent Star Trek game. :(

Maybe I'm a little slow this Monday, but I'm not getting the gist of either of these posts. Pinata, did you like either/both of those XBLA games? They got killed in the reviews and the demos did nothing for me, but I wasn't sure if you're saying you liked them anyway.
Pixy, are you saying you don't even want to try them out, or that you'd buy them without even trying them out first?

Really, my sarcasm radar must be on the fritz today!

I never even bought the full WC game, that's how far it was from what I wanted as a fan of the franchise.

I bought BSG on sale for the 4th season premiere and played it so much to get the 200/200 out of it that I couldn't possibly stomach another top-down sci-fi shooter that didn't have amazing community support behind it.

I left a lot to be read in-between the lines there ;)

No desire to even try either one.

Can't say I blame you, but I have to check out Star Trek, if out of nothing more than morbid curiosity.
I can't remember which, but one of those two previous 2-D space shooters chose to have a pseudo-3D effect on a horizontal playing field and played like NHL 94 with lasers. It was hilarious.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Not actually XBLA-related, but since it's XBLA-like, I thought I'd mention that Amazon is selling formerly-Japan-only, now-U.S.-bound Raiden Fighter Aces for $19.99 ($10 less than GS and it seems to be nowhere else). Don't have any actual experience with this SHUMP, but it seems very well received by those who know. It's a compilation of the three Raiden games. Seems to be a good deal (esp with the ECA discount).
Here's the trailer:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=49141"/><param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=49141" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object>

I can totally see myself totally sucking royally at this game, but since it's a disc, at least I can sell it if I hate it...

Thanks for the heads up Decker, I'll grab it at that price.

I've had RFA pre-ordered at Amazon since January.

..and posted about it in the Xbox 360 thread since it's not an XBLA release.

Yep. Arkanoid is my all-time favorite arcade game but it just doesn't feel right without a real spinner. I'll stick to my MAME machine for this one.

I really loved Arkanoid on the SNES, but this new version doesn't feel worth my time. It's pretty much the same exact game, and unless I'm going crazy, doesn't control as well as the SNES version did.

Yeah, that sure wasn't it. Another nearly impossible to control 2D space combat game. Just like BG and WC. Or Shred Nebula, for that matter. For all the hate that Undertow continues to get heaped on it at CAG, it seems to be the only XBLA title in that sort of genre that gets the control right.

The more the recent XBLA games disappoint me, the closer I get to buying Uno Rush instead. Points keep burning a hole in my virtual wallet...

Have a little willpower, man. I'm sure there'll be something coming along within the next month or two that will be a worthwhile purchase.

I've got over 17K points on my account, and I'm still just as stingy as ever with them.

So is this an Arcade title then? Any indication on whether packs/cards will be sold individually as DLC? When is the game due out? I am dying for a good CCG on Live.

Also, presumably the developers/beta testers will have the achievement and they will go into matchmaking. From there it will spread virally.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

That's the only obvious solution. This is just the other side of ambiguity that GH3's "Meet Your Maker".

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

The game has a culdcept saga-esque system. You start off with basic cards, lots of land, some creatures and such, and as you play through single player your unlock more cards (rares I'd guess). As of right now, there is no need for additional purchases (they've said if they do it'll likely be sets rather than "random packs").

The main difference between this game and the real game is that deckbuilding will be more limited and there's less cards to choose from.

Yeah, a lot of the games from the Sonic's Greatest Hits game are coming. Including:

Comix Zone
Sonic 3
Vectorman

And Turtles in Time is coming.

And of course Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

I think there's plenty.

Not at all. Other games have had that no-point viral achievement before (though I can't remember which ones). There may be a rule by MS that makes it so you can't award gamerscore for a viral achievements?

And Shagrath, you're right : I'll be patient. I know Battlefield 1942 is coming soon and that is WELL WORTH the 1200 points they'll be charging.
Still, when you say you're stingy with your points, I assume you're excluding Rock Band DLC purchases, right? ;)

No. I'm pretty stingy about that too. There have been weak moments when I consider just buying everything. But I can't bring myself to it. I only buy what I think is good (on one or more instruments) or something my friends would want to play when they're over.
