Great deal if you don't own TMNT (I do). Only other one I'm interested in Golden Axe but it's on the Sonic Mega Collection

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is this week's sale.

I can't bring myself to buy it. I remember sucking shit at the demo and it wasn't an NES game I ever played myself.

So any new (or old) TMNT owners want to try for the co-op achievement this week?

I've tried like six games and we always lose at Krang or Shredder. :(

I have the full 200 in TMNT and would be happy to help if a 4th is needed.

Same here. So frustrating! Is there some sort of strategy for Krang and Shredder that we're just not following? As a kid, this was always a problem you could solve with infinite continues in the home version, or more quarters in the arcade version.

If I can manage to be online whenever you guys plan to play, I'd join in.

Our problem has mostly just been not getting to that point with enough lives.

The skateboard level always sucks away too many lives for us.

Long story short: kill the first wave of helicopters, then jump/avoid the foot ninjas for about 2 minutes. Kill them and the level ends without facing the rest of the waves (namely the bomby copters).

In multiplayer, you're going to want to stay jumping/avoiding together if possible.

Wow, I can't remember the last time that we two XBLA games released that I've never even heard of.

There's not even a website up for that Blazing Birds game. That can't be a good sign...

Oh yeah, also Bionic Commando is 400 points this week. I already own it via gamesharing on PSN, but might go ahead and buy it here anyways. Not sure yet.

Well, who would have guessed this : It appears that Blazing Birds is actually a futuristic, 2D Robot Badminton game. Any takers????? Anyone?

Blazing Birds was the winner of the 2007 Dream-Build-Play contest using XNA

Oh, I didn't know that. Well, I guess that's one way to take a 200 - 400 point Community Game and charge 800 points for it. Based on that clip and their very basic website, it doesn't look nearly as original, polished or deep as Carnyvale or Weapon of Choice (though it's not really fair to judge a game before trying out the demo at least -- it might be fun, I guess). Wonder how that contest was judged.

Bionic Commando is NOT the deal this week. It is probably next week as reported last week (you follow all of that?)

The deal is actually MUA: Hero/Villian Pack for 560 points (30% off).

[sarcasm] How is that relevant to XBLA, exactly? [/sarcasm]

Weird, that's the deal posted on Major Nelson's website.

Only in that in invalidates the previous XBLA deal.

You can just buy MUA Gold Edition for about that much

I'm on the fence about Space Invaders. I played the demo a couple times and I'm still not sure about pulling the trigger. What do you guys think about it? Pro's & con's?

Thanks.

I played it pretty heavily on the DS for about a week and I'm done. It's one of those games where you will just hit a wall and frustration will set in until you finally give up.

If you're good at twitch reflex games (and multi-tasking), it is awesome. I can kind of understand "hitting a wall" but nothing is unbeatable here. Just a little practice and all of the content is reasonable in terms of difficulty. One of my favorite recent Arcade games.

Played the demo. I like it, but I have no idea why. Basically, I'm no help.

And I think I saw Major Nelson clairfy that Blazing Birds is actually 400 points, not 800. If I read it correctly.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Tried both demos this morning. Blazing Birds? Well, it IS deeper than I thought. It looks like Pong, but plays a little more like Virtua Tennis, with trick shots and stuff. Not much fun, though and certainly they did the right thing dropping the price to 400 points. Still, I doubt many would buy it. I certainly won't. And not that it matters much, but the robot models are SO ugly. They look a little like Tom Servo from MST3K. My other big problem with the game is that the play area you use is so small and it's easy to overshoot where you need to be. A paddle would certainly have worked better.

Gel is a weird game. Can't really get a handle on it. It's yet another color block matching game (yawn), but it plays a little like Bomberman. You control an Avatar that picks up, throws and pushes blocks around an isometric 3D grid. I didn't really understand how it's played correctly (I could clear the levels but didn't do so gracefully or with big combo scores or anything), but maybe if you did it might be fun?

Decker 05-21-09 04:27 PM

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Um, so did nobody else even try out the demos of these two titles or have an opinion. Gel got some fairly good reviews even if I don't fully "get" the concept.

I was curious to see which would sell more on 360voice : Blazing Birds at 400 points or Gel at 800 points.
Spoiler:
They're really close. Gel sold 120, Blazing Birds sold 99. The leaderboards at mygamercard.net are about the same (Gel holding a slight lead 168 to 160).
Either way, neither did very well at all.

UncleGramps 05-21-09 04:54 PM

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

For some reason I don't feel any motivation to even check out the demos. I have other, better games to keep me busy for now.
