I don't get pinball. It's a nice time waster but it seems to me it's all about luck and not necessarily about skill. But I know my opinion is incorrect.

I know!

I love the little bomb throwing dude. I could just chuck bombs all day and watch the carnage!

The dark mage is pretty fun too. I have a feeling that a couple of dark mages, one dude with a sword and a healer would be a nearly unstoppable combo.

Bus does address my one beef with pinball games though. I hate the alleys on the sides. Those do feel like dumb luck sometimes.

Yeah, I do agree, the alleys can suck on some tables. I think if I was better at tilting (real life and in the video games) I would be able to better avoid them.

There's one exception: the old NES Pinball game.

Great, just great.

I didn't buy the DLC for Savage Moon, but on loading it up to play today, it asked to to download an update. Fine. after about 20 minutes of downloading a 220 Meg file, it tells me:

The copyright protection information is invalid (80029513)

First it forces me to download the update, and that breaks it because I didn't buy the DLC? Reading on other boards, I guess I have to redownload the game. Anyone else have this problem?

Same thing happened to me, I had to re-download the demo then unlock it. Works fine now, I may pick up the dlc.

I first bought the Savage Moon DLC, which was about 118kb. Well, that's tiny, I think to myself. I load up the game and have to sit through that 220mb of updates.

It seems pretty stupid to make everybody sit through downloading the 220mb update. The DLC should be the large file.

Especially considering the game itself is only 258 MB. I cannot even fine this 220 mb update file in game saves or game data. Where did they put it?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Maybe they shrunk the game and add the dlc into the 220mb, and you have to download the unlock key for the dlc.

SO I bought Zen Pinball over the weekend after only having the demo version. First of all, why the fuck can't Sony implement a key system like MSFT has? Redownload the whole thing again? Fucking lame.

For those who have this, what's your favorite board? I'm trying to concentrate on one or two to learn them first, then move on to others. I'm playing v12 and Shaman the most right now - great stuff. If only I could get more things to work for me though - but that's the point of pinball, keep playing and learning the ropes

I think that's a developer thing, not a Sony thing ... some games do work that way (demo contains full game, which is unlocked by a code). Personally I prefer them to be separate if there's a big size difference, so I don't have to download everything just to try the demo version.

Yeah - but why pass up a perfectly stupid reason to Sony-bash some more?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Many games such as Savage Moon and WipEout HD use an unlock code to go from demo to full version.

My favorite Zen tables are Shaman for the details and animations and Tesla for the gameplay. All four tables are great -- there's no clunkers like the Xtreme table on the 360 game.In fact I like all four of the Zen tables better than any of the 360 tables that came with their game. Still wanting some DLC for Zen, though...

What is your problem? Any chance you get you attempt to point out a perceived bias with anything I say? Can I not have complaints about a system and the way it operates? Is that all of a sudden not allowed? I complain about all my systems.

How is the Savage Moon DLC?

I'm still frustrated with the game after picking it up during the sale. I had to look online at strategies for the second stage of the second moon, I just could not for the life of me figure it out, and the strategy is basically ignore 90% of the map and build up your base. The next few levels I passed had the same strategy... build a bunch of regular turrets in a cluster near the base, build a repair tower as soon as you can, then build amp towers and sit back. Maybe throw in some anti air if there are airborne enemies (they can cover the whole map when upgraded and amped, which is pretty cool).

I do take away one complaint I had about the game. I didn't realize the clicking the right stick allowed you to see the possible paths of the flying enemies. I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it before, or if they put it in with the patch.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

PSN has had a couple of trip-ups lately with Fat Princess being hard broken and the Savage Moon update bricking the game. But 360 has had plenty of similar issues. Castle Crashers was broken for 6 months and 1943 had plenty of issues early on, just for example.

The difference is that when something doesn't go 100% correctly on PSN, folks assume it's the norm and it confirms something that they already think (that the PSN isn't good). It's called confirmation bias, and everybody's guilty of it on one subject or another.

I haven't gotten it yet either, but I'm on board with your other sentiments. My biggest frustration is not being able to see the whole map.

I'm also not very good at these games, as PJM is kicking my ass as well.j

I need to work on my strategery.

He's not talking shit about the game being broken though. He basically said it was a pain in the ass to have to download the full game after upgrading from the demo, then goes on to say how much he's enjoyed playing it. But since it was L&O that said it, I say have at him.

It's not "perceived" and I'm certainly not the first or only member to comment on it. And believe me, I don't take nearly every chance I get. I don't think ANYONE would have the time to do that.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I'll probably pick up the DLC for $5, that's cheap enough.

I think this is my biggest problem with the game. The way it is set up and balanced, clustering a single group of towers around an amp and repair tower becomes almost the only viable strategy for later levels. I think the developers made a mistake in letting the bugs attack towers, or at least in letting bugs destroy a lone tower in a couple hits. It means that you can't spread out your towers or create your own paths without them being destroyed, and since the later levels tend to get difficult really quickly, you're better off utilizing and clustering around the machine gun towers you placed at the start.

I played the entire game and never realized that, or at least they never pointed it out. That was one of my biggest frustrations with the game.

I've spent very little time with it so far.

One thing I'm a little annoyed with is: you get the indication of the new bugs and their abilities at the beginning of the very wave in which they appear. I didn't have enough money for the required new tower and just watched them all march right into my base.

Yeah, it's frustrating not being able to get through these on the first attempt, but there isn't a single other downloadable game I get more time (and thus, a better value) out of then these Tower Defense games. I like playing the levels over and over and over to develop a strategy.

I've "rainbowed" (to borrow from PJM) every Savage Moon level before the DLC came out. I'll play the new levels again and again until I do the same.
