If I have the MGS collection, is there any reason (besides PSP support) to go with the downloaded version vs the disc version in the set? I have yet to play any of them.

I dont think there is. But what Konami should do to attract more buyers is throw in the vr missions that was on psx.

So playing FF7 again, I remember people going ape shit when that "Real time" demo of the game was shown way back when.

Still kind of cracks me up, even if that had come out as an actual game (and I sort of wish it had), it would already be dated by todays standards. The CG in this game just hasn't aged well.

Music (I heart me some Midi haha) and atmosphere still rock.

Having never played any of the games in the series, can you tell my why FF7 is the greatest FF game ever made (as it seems many people and earlier ebay prices would claim)?

And, if it's just an RPG, what sets it apart from other RPGs out there?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I don't know that I'd say greatest, but basically it has a well developed world with well developed characters and an utterly fantastic atmosphere that really hasn't been rivaled.

Something about the mildly creepy almost survival horror vibe of the music and themes was refreshing when it came out and still is today.

I actually liked the game most when it was linear and in darker areas, once you get to the Chocobos I stopped caring (and flat out stopped the first time I played it) though I got over that and wound up enjoying the game immensely.

Yeah, it was the better story of the series in my opinion. I think the magic and fighting systems were the best and have only gone downhill since.

I'd say it was the incremental leap in technology to FF VII that made it such a big deal ten years ago.

If I was to give the Final Fantasy series one try, is number 7 the way to go?

And if my favorite "rpg" is Quest for Glory (but I also played the hell out of the original Dos AD&D games, loved Valkyria Chronicles), what are the chances of my enjoying it?

Odds are you'll enjoy it.

Developer ZEN Studios has announced that its PlayStation Network title, The Punisher: No Mercy, will be available on July 2 for $9.99.

Powered by Unreal Engine 3, No Mercy's first-person action is focused on an online multiplayer affair, supporting up to eight players in solo and team-based modes. The game will also have a single-players story mode, which we can only hope will involve a piranha tank kill (like in Volition’s last-gen title, The Punisher), and not simply be the multiplayer mode with seven bots and some cut-scenes.

Wow I'm shocked at the price I hope it's good.

Anyone know if the Bomberman game that went up last month has a single player vs CPU mode? The PSN description and IGN's review aren't clear...

I played the demo and it pitted me against the CPU.

I've tried looking, but does anyone know of a comprehensive list of everything that has previously gone on sale, game-wise, on the PSN?

I want to dl something but don't want to get anything that hasn't gone on sale and might for Sony's (hoped-for) summer sale next month.

Wait! There's going to be a PSN sale next month?

The Punisher: No Mercy will have a demo tomorrow for those undecided.

Okay, I'll try and do it a list.

November 2007, these were on sale for $4.99

1. Calling All Cars
2. Flow
3. Pixeljunk Racers
4. Everyday Shooter

July 2008, saw these games go on sale at $4.99

5. PAIN
6. Pixeljunk Monsters
7. High Velocity Bowling
8. High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition
9. Rocketmen: Axis of Evil

November 2008 saw these games on sale for $4.99

10. The Last Guy
11. PixelJunk Eden
12. echochrome (PS3)
13. Novastrike
14. Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

In February, there was a temporary price drop on:

15. Warhawk $19.99
16. Warhawk booster packs ($4.99 each or $9.99 for all three)
17. CoD4 Map Pack ($4.99)

In March, there was a temporary price drop on:

18. R&C Quest for Booty ($9.99)

In May, (temporary?) price drops on:

19. Siren: Blood Curse ($29.99 or $10.99 per episode pack)
20. Bionic Commando Rearmed ($4.99)

That's all I can think of right now. Does anyone remember any other sales or price drops?

Have any PS1 games ever gone on sale?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

I know I'm about a month behind but about a week ago I strolled into the PSN store for the first time in months to find that they had Final Fantasy VII there. Big  to that.

Good to see Sony is going ahead and releasing some real PS1 classics. I have fond memories of this game and, another one of my all time favorites, Metal Gear Solid from when I was 11 or 12 years old.

Now only if Nintendo would follow suit, I'd be happy as a pig in shit.

I remember the COD4 Map Pack being on sale for $4.99 or so around the same time as the Warhawk Map Packs being on sale earlier this year.

I already have Eden and none of the rest are tempting me even at $5. I'll think about this one.

I'm in for Eden at that price.
